Overview
Villa Aspis is located close to the hilltop village of Carcès in the Var region, which is part of the beautiful French Riviera. This villa is the perfect base for exploring nearby villages, hiking trails, waterfalls and lakes.
The villa is modern yet comfortable, and with four bedrooms, it is ideal for a holiday with either friends or family. Downstairs, the open-plan living and dining room is the heart of the home and opens out onto the fully-fitted kitchen. This space is excellent for coming together for breakfast before heading out for the day.
When you wish to get some sleep, all of the bedrooms are located on the first floor. There are three double rooms and a room with two single beds. The owners have gone the extra mile to ensure the home has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay, such as Wi-Fi and air conditioning.
To enjoy the temperate climate, you are sure to want to spend plenty of time outdoors, and the garden here is a fantastic place to unwind. Spend a lazy day lounging by the private pool before cooking up a tasty feast on the barbecue. The covered dining terrace is a lovely spot for a special meal as the sun goes down.
The closest village to the house is Carcès, a mere 2.5km away! The village is a charming historic settlement built around a medieval castle on a hill. As you wander the pretty streets, you will notice the unique houses clad with glazed tiles. The homes, along with countless fountains and winding cobbled lanes, add character to the village. As well as shops, cafes and restaurants, you can also visit the castle and several churches, such as the Église Sainte-Marguerite.
If you enjoy spending time outdoors in nature, this will be a wonderful place for your holiday. This area is packed with rivers, mountainous walking routes, forests and lakes. Just 5km away from the villa, you can discover Lake Sainte Suzanne and the stunning Caramy Falls. You can take a few paths to walk or cycle around the lake depending on how challenging you would like your trail to be; even those just looking for a gentle stroll will enjoy visiting for great views and spotting local protected animals and plant life.
Sillans la Cascade, which is 18km away, is another delightful place to spend the day; follow the trail through the lush forests for around 25 minutes and reach two staggering 42m high waterfalls. The azure blue plunge pool is a welcoming sight on a hot day, but there is a better swimming spot further downstream. Enjoy a hike and a swim while here, followed by a picnic, or you could head to a café in the village of Sillans la Cascade. This medieval village has fortified walls, ancient churches and a castle to visit.
If you would like to visit a beach, you can reach the town of Sainte Maxime and its gorgeous beaches within a 60km drive. The town has shops, eateries, bars, a museum and a casino and is much less crowded than the nearby Saint-Tropez. There are also beaches at Sainte Croix lake which is 47km away from the villa and is a popular spot for a day trip.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa AspisLocated between the beaches of the French Riviera and Provence, the Var is a diverse, picturesque region filled with authentic villages and natural attractions. This is an idyllic place to stay to explore the coast and the many hilltop villages in the area.
Carcès is a pretty village at an altitude of 130m. The cobbled lanes and tile-covered houses wind their way up the hillside, surrounding the medieval castle which once protected the citizens during historical battles. At just 2.5km away from the villa, this serene village is a beautiful place to have so close. Whether you need to visit the shops to pick up groceries or you would like to spend the afternoon wandering the atmospheric streets, there is plenty to see and do in Carcès. The tree-lined squares, dotted with fountains, make for a lovely dining spot.
The landscape around the villa is filled with gorgeous places to visit, such as forested areas, lakes, waterfalls and hiking routes. The closest lake Sainte Suzanne and the adjacent waterfalls are only 5km away from the house and are a fantastic place to spend the day. If you would like to travel further afield for the day, you could visit the beaches of the vast Lac de Sainte Croix, which is 54km away. There are lots of water sports on offer at the lake, such as surfing and kayaking, but there are also lots of quiet sandy beaches to sunbathe with a good book.
As well as stunning natural attractions, The Var has countless quaint villages you can visit. One of the closest is Cotignac which is 10km away. Cotignac is a picture-postcard French village built into cliffs filled with caves. A pair of medieval towers sit overlooking the village, and around these, there are pastel-coloured homes, shops and floral displays. Village life centres around the Cours Gambetta, a pedestrianised street with many streetside cafes to dine at. Visit this charming medieval village on a Tuesday morning to pick up some local produce at the bustling market.
Another nearby town is Brignoles which is a 20km drive away. The town was built in the early Middle Ages, and the buildings and architectural details from this period can be seen as you walk around. A former grand palace belonging to the ruling Counts now houses a museum where visitors can learn more about the area's history, such as when the town became home to Parliament temporarily in the 1700s due to the plague! Brignoles also has a brilliant range of shops and restaurants to discover. Or why not drive 8km up into the hills to the must-visit Abbaye du Thoronet. This impressive former Cistercian abbey was built in the 12th century and has been restored so that visitors may enjoy its beauty.
