Grasse is the perfume centre of France surrounded by rose, violet and jasmine fields, and filled with historic buildings, including the beautiful Notredame du Puy cathedral which hosts three paintings by Rubens.

Le Palmes d'Or is set in the hills of Grasse in The City of Orange Trees, Le Bar-sur-loup. A gorgeous medieval village, Le Bar-sur-loup has stunning 13th-century architecture, narrow cobbled streets, and amazing views over the Loupe valley. The surrounding countryside is simply unbelievable: rugged mountains, with plenty of opportunities for hiking – taking the journey up to the Sarrée plateau offers even better views and is highly recommended.

Just 3km down the road you will stumble across the Gorges du Loup with its incredible cascades, deep pools and (for the thrill-seeker) some high jumps!

The hilltop medieval commune of Chateuneuf-Grasse is only 1.7km away where you can visit the commercial district of Pre du Lac as well as the more preserved area of Le Vignal.

Cannes, with its fancy shops, luxurious hotels and restaurants and amazing sandy beaches is just 19km away. From here, you can easily reach both Nice and Antibes, two unmissable destinations on the French Riviera.

Region

Fall in love with Grasse and its surrounding villages as you experience the Côte d’Azur hinterland staying in one of our handpicked villa rentals in and around Grasse. Pass lavender, jasmine, roses and flower farms as you drive into the hills of the Provence-Alpes-Maritime – no wonder Grasse is known as the ‘perfume capital of France’.

As well as the Museé International de la Parfumerie, visit the perfume houses of Galimard, Molinard and Fragonard for guided tours and even perfume-making workshops. Elsewhere, explore the historic winding lanes and come across artisan shops, café terraces and the impressive Rubens frescoes inside Cathédrale Notre-Dame du Puy de Grasse. There’s a lovely daily flower market at Place aux Aires whilst Place aux Herbes hosts the larger twice-weekly market on a Wednesday and Saturday morning.

A short drive from Grasse, encounter a wealth of picture-perfect villages and beautiful landscapes for walking, hiking, horse-riding and cycling. The perched village of Cabris is especially bucolic with incredible vistas over the Tanneron forest and Lac de Saint-Cassien. There are more glorious views from the small village of Spéracèdes with its pastel-coloured houses and olive trees.

Discover century-old hiking trails through the Siagne valley as well as pretty villages, ancient bridges and idyllic swimming spots. Visit the illuminated caves of stalagmites and stalactites just outside Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne before pottering around the authentic village admiring its fountains, café terraces and inviting food shops showcasing goats cheese, honey, olive oil and other products of the region.

South of Grasse, drive to the charming hilltop village of Opio, also famed for its olive oil, and don’t miss the Friday morning market in Valbonne, a very charming town dating back to the 16th century, home to a wonderful town square with pavement cafes and restaurants.

Golf lovers have a great choice of courses in the region including Golf du Claux Amic, once a 17th century hunting estate with stunning views and Golf Grande Bastide just south of Opio as well as prestigious courses close to Mougins and Cannes. As well as endless hiking trails across Grasse’s surroundings, other activities include a range of land and water-based activities in and around Lac de Saint-Cassien, only 15km from Grasse, as well as tree-top adventures and zip-lines with French Riviera views at Riviera Nature just north of the town.

Owner Profile

How long have you owned the property?
My father built the house in 1979.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
My father built the house completely from scratch (he even carved the stones) so, the house  is not a simply house for me.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?
A sad story:  A nice couple from the Netherlands came 3 times but the last time had a purpose: their daughter was in the last phase of cancer and she wanted to come back in the villa once more.
Ex Djibouti president Ali Aref was our neighbour.

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?
Jasmin festival in Grasse (first Saturday of august)

Really eat?
Perfume factories in Grasse

Really see?
Cannes film festival in May
And close by: St Tropez (1 hour drve) – Monaco (1 hour drive) Gorges du Verdon (2 hours) Cannes 20 mn

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
*Air/conditioning
*Completely secluded garden (you can be naked and nobody will see you)

  • Absolutely wonderful location!

    on 11/10/2019

We stayed one week in Palmes D'Or and could not be more happy about our choice.
The house was really nice and clean when we arrived and everything was working as it should. Our youngest daughter got a nice cot with beautiful white linens and her own life jacket to use around the pool.
The location was also perfect for us; with everything we needed close by; including a great local bakery with fresh croissants. It took us 40 minutes to drive to the beach.
I want to add, that the house is facing the East, so the sun set early; around 3-3:30 now in late September.

  • Lovely!

    Nice house, good view.

  • Nice relaxing holiday

    on 31/07/2018

The views from the villa and swimming pool are absolutely lovely - great pool overall and very relaxing. Great to have air conditioning too.
