Maison de Mures is a two-storey home within verdant green gardens, sitting on the outskirts of a typically French village. On your doorstep, you can access lengthy hiking trails and cycling routes and head out to charming towns offering produce markets and little cafes in lively village squares.

This rural home looks out over a leafy garden, with lawns and towering trees which offer shade on a hot day. The historic house is packed with original materials and period features such as the open fireplace, the feature wooden staircase and the ceiling beams which add a rustic character to the home. These historic details work in harmony with the modern furnishings and high-quality décor throughout the villa to create a welcoming and comfortable place to stay.

The ground floor of Maison de Mures is the heart of the home; the large, open-plan living and dining space is where you will gather for breakfast before heading out for the day, or you could settle down on the sofas in the evening to watch a film together. The modern, fully-fitted kitchen is in the next room and has all of the appliances and gadgets you could need, there is also an additional dining table within the kitchen.

One of the home’s double bedrooms is located on the ground floor, making it ideal for those who have difficulty with stairs. In the main villa, there are two more bedrooms, set on the first floor. One of these bedrooms is a spacious double room, while the other is a room with four single beds which would be fantastic for the kids. These three bedrooms share two bathrooms, one with a bath and one with a shower. There is one more bedroom available at Maison de Mures and this is set in a separate gite in the garden. The gite is a great retreat for those wishing for a little peace from the main party and has a living space, kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom.

Outdoors, the garden is a beautiful space with sweeping lawns and trees, dining terraces and sun loungers around the private, heated swimming pool. As the weather is often wonderful here, you are sure to spend lots of time in the garden with your nearest and dearest.

Located in an idyllic rural setting, yet within walking distance of the local village, Maison de Mures offers a wonderful location with plenty to see and do nearby. In the local village, there are a selection of amenities such as a well-stocked shop, a bakery selling fresh breads and pastries, a park and a tennis court. This village is just one of many in the surrounding countryside which also offers a wealth of leisure and sporting opportunities as well as vineyards you can visit to try to delicious local wines.

It is also possible to visit the historic and cultural attractions of larger towns and cities such as Montignac which is 12km away, Sarlat which is 35km away and Périgueux which is 42km away.

Situated on the outskirts of La Bachellerie village in the picturesque Dordogne department, Maison de Mures is the perfect base for your holiday in the countryside of Southern France. From here you can enjoy delicious food, sample local wines and spend your days visiting beautiful river-side villages.

Just a few paces away from the house, you will find a charming local village with a number of amenities. There is a grocery shop, a bakery, a tennis court and a children’s playground here, meaning you can pick up your morning pastries without needing to set off on a long car journey. Also in the local area, you can go out for a walk or a bike ride through the quiet country lanes, visit a family-run vineyard to taste the famous wines or visit Chateau de Rastignac which is a historic palatial home.

This area is dotted with many more lovely villages such as Montignac which is 12km away. This is an idyllic village, nestled on the banks of the Vézère River, this is a great place to stroll around, looking out over the stone bridge and pottering around the pretty, artisan shops and 14th century buildings. The village is also well-known for being home to The Lascaux Caves which are a collection of pre-historic caves filled with cave paintings. While the original paintings are closed to the public, you can see incredible reproductions as well as exhibitions in the nearby caves. After a busy day, why not indulge in a meal at a river-view restaurant, the local eateries serve some of the regions finest produce, including duck, truffles and goats’ cheeses.

As well as the wide array of smaller villages and towns, the Dordogne is home to Sarlat-la-Canéda, often called Sarlat. This medieval town is 35km away and is a haven for foodies as it is a well-known gastronomical centre. If you are looking for a quintessential historic French town to visit, then Sarlat should be top of your list as the atmospheric centre has it all. The town is a maze of stunning 14th century streets which have been beautifully preserved. The town is named as a ‘town of art and history’, therefore visitors will be able to see ancient churches, the 17th century town hall and the castle-like Manoir de Gisson, all constructed in honey coloured limestone. As well as the countless historic buildings, the streets here are packed with shops and bustling market stalls as well as a brilliant range of restaurants serving delicious local dishes and wines. The town offers everything from rustic inns to Michelin-starred restaurants, so make sure you stay for dinner!

A little further out is the large town of Périgueux which is 42km away; the town has over 2000 years of history and started as a Gallo-Roman settlement. You can easily pass a full day here exploring the sights such as the incredible cathedral with its 5 domes, the art and archaeology museum and the Gallo-Roman Museum.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Reviews

  • The house was perfect

    on 20/09/2023

The house was perfect, beautiful surroundings, beautiful garden and spacious house. The gites were nice for the young couple who stayed with us with a 4-month-old baby. The owner is a very sweet and helpful man and we enjoyed his delicious bottles. I give the house a score of 11 out of 10. perhaps a small recommendation to place other knives with the cutlery, as we only had steak knives and they are difficult to use. Recommended for guests with dogs.

  • Beautiful house

    on 20/05/2023

We have indeed been back for a week and really enjoyed the house. We were also very lucky with the weather so that was nice too.
The contact with the landlord was excellent and everything was clear and he was on the doorstep within a few minutes if there were any questions.
The bakery in the village was a very big plus. Still nicer to be able to go to the bakery on foot than to have to sit in the car for 20 minutes.
The fact that you can reach your destination very quickly from the highway is also very pleasant.
The area is also very beautiful, but of course you know that. This house is definitely on the list to book again.
Thanks again for this beautiful house and the good guidance in the process, also for the cancellation for my parents.

  • Maison de Mures is a delightful property

    on 15/05/2023

Maison de Mures is a delightful property in a beautiful quiet village. The house is well equipped, comfortable, stylish, and clean. We particularly loved the pool, which was the perfect temperature, and the covered veranda with its gas BBQ and big table for outdoor dining. La Bachellerie is close to some stunning places to visit, such as Saint-Leon.Sur-Vesere where you will find Le Petit Leon, a restaurant which really ought to be Michelain starred because the food is so good! The local Epicerie in La Bachellerie has a depot de pain, and the croissants are all-butter and delicious, and the shop stocks a fantastic range of goods considering it is quite a small space. We even found Almond Milk, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We highly recommend the house, and the area. Thank you, we had a great stay at your place.
