Overview
In a wonderfully rural area near the banks of a river, yet only a ten minute stroll into a charming medieval market town, the apartments at Les Ecuries are the perfect setting for an unforgettable holiday in the south of the beautiful Dordogne, just under half an hour from Bergerac.
In this intimate space surrounded by vast grounds, there are five beautifully renovated apartments.
One of the apartments has three elegant bedrooms, its own open-plan living space with Wi-Fi and a Sonos sound system plus a well-equipped kitchen, bright bathrooms and its own terrace and barbecue. Part of a converted barn, over two floors, this home features a wood-burning stove for cooler evenings plus air-conditioning in bedrooms for warmer days.
The owners have a keen eye for detail and have aimed to create the highest of standards such as Feather & Black beds, the best quality linen and dressing gowns for guests including the children. The level of service that guests receive will equally astound you from the morning delivery of croissants and fresh bread every day to the on-site concierge who can arrange a private chef, baby-sitting, in-room massage or simply reserve taxis and restaurants for you.
The vast estate here stretches for 25 acres including delightful woodland walks and tranquil paths leading to the rivers edge where you can feast on picnics prepared by the chef or try out a spot of fishing. Enjoy the summer scents from the flower garden, pick herbs for your evening meal or simply find one of the benches or hammocks across the wonderful gardens to relax with a good book. Kids will be in their element with two play areas with slides, climbing frames and a great trampoline not to mention so many outdoor toys and a fantastic kids pool whilst grown-ups can enjoy some serious swimming in the 25m long swimming pool available for all the guests. Gather with newly found friends on the communal terrace overlooking the pool, prepare wonderful meals in the large barbecue or pizza oven and enjoy leisurely lunches or lingering evening feasts with fine wines under the clear skies at night.
Should you be able to tear yourself away from the glorious grounds, the bastide town of Eymet is just ten minutes walk away. Enjoy the bustling market on a Thursday morning or simply wander around the medieval streets, admiring the fascinating history whilst browsing into shops and sampling some of the fantastic restaurants, cafes and bars.
The south of the Dordogne offers a wealth of activities from cycling, hiking and canoeing nearby to tree-top adventure parks, farms, water parks and go-karting to keep the kids entertained. There’s a decent choice of golf courses nearby and wine-lovers will be able to explore the surrounding vineyards from nearby Château de Monbazillac to idyllic Saint-Émilion and beyond. Not forgetting the array of characterful villages and cities nearby such as beautiful Bergerac and impressive Bordeaux to the smaller and charming Issigeac and Monpazier. Explore local towns on market day for a true Dordogne experience!
Whether a family holiday or a stay with friends, this is a unique place where you will feel most welcome and looked after in this stunning part of southern Dordogne.
In addition there are four 2-bedroom apartments (three of which are part of the converted barn) available for rental (Les Ecuries II) or for larger groups the entire site can be hired exclusively (Les Ecuries).
Good news! For a little extra, this property can be booked as a Vill'otel |

About the surrounding area of Les Ecuries IIIThe location of Les Ecuries is wonderful for those looking for a rural holiday yet not have to depend on a car as you are just a ten minute walk from the charming market town of Eymet. The 25 acres of private grounds at Les Ecuries lead to the banks of the Dropt river.
In Eymet (1.3km) you will find some excellent restaurants and bars, a couple of supermarkets, a boulangerie and butchers as well as other interesting shops and a vibrant market in the beautiful main square on a Thursday. Being on the banks of the river there are some amazing views and great picnic spots. The town dates back to the 13th century and is a typical bastide town in its layout, full of idyllic medieval houses and attractive buildings. The town hosts several cultural events and festivals throughout the year and is a vibrant as well as historical place to stay.
In terms of activities you will find canoeing within ten minutes by car, bike trails in the area (and electric bike hire and tours in Eymet!) several golf courses within twenty minutes and a picturesque lake with swimming, slides, barbecue facilities and a café just half an hour away. In and around Bergerac you will find a waterpark, go-karting, boat rides and a miniature ferry sailing lake plus there is a tree-top activity centre for all ages just half an hour drive away in Sainte-Colombe-de-Duras. Younger kids will also love Le Chaudron Magique, an organic farm where children can milk the goats and make goats cheese!
You are surrounded by idyllic villages and towns, full of history and character, worthy of a visit for a leisurely lunch and explore such as the warren of medieval streets at Issigeac (24km) or the attractive Sainte-Foy-la-Grande (28km) facing the Dordogne. Not forgetting beautiful Bergerac (27km) with its medieval architecture, narrow streets of boutiques and great restaurants and impressive Bordeaux (95km), definitely worthy of a fantastic day trip.
In under an hour you can access two of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, Monflaquin (45km) and Monpazier (47km) or follow the Dordogne east all the way to beautiful villages such as Beynac-et-Cazenac (80km), La Roque-Gageac (84km) and Domme (90km) before heading north to delightful Sarlat-la-Canéda (92km). For a change of scene you can also head west for a day trip to the coast to sample some local oysters at Cap Ferret (180km) or Arcachon (170km).
Wine-lovers are in the perfect location with vineyards in the surrounding area as well as both south and north of the Dordogne, some of them organic. As well as the famous La Route des Vins de Bergerac, you also have the Bordeaux vineyards to the west and beautiful Saint-Émilion (63km) just an hour away. Nearby the Château de Monbazillac (22km) is an especially wonderful place to sample and buy wines whilst Eymet even has its own local brewery if you fancy a change of drink!
Those looking to experience market days across the region should head to Saint Alvere (55m) on a Monday, Riberac (80km) on a Tuesday, Bergerac (27km) or Sarlat (90km) on a Wednesday, nearby Eymet or Saint Astier (75km) on a Thursday, Souillac (116km) on a Friday, finishing off with Saint Cyprian (73km) or Issigeac (24km) on a Sunday. Bergerac (27km) also hosts a wonderful flea market on the first Sunday of every month and in the summer you should look out for the atmospheric night markets dotted around the villages of the Dordogne, including Eymet, for a special experience of amazing food and festivities. Each market often specialises in a regional cuisine and/or craft from that area and sometimes throughout the year seasonal markets pop up.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

How long have you owned the property?
We have owned the property for 3 years and continue to explore and discover new delights every time we visit
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
We first fell in love with the Bastide town of Eymet with is historic market square and year round vibrancy. After two years of searching we then found the property and upon driving up the sweeping driveway to the house we got our first real sense of space and tranquillity the property offers. Every time we arrive it is like all of the pressures and stresses of daily life are left behind. When you pass through the Coach doors you get the first view of the expanse of the grounds and peacefulness of space. Unfortunately, when we first saw the property the grounds and outbuildings had not been loved for some time, but the potential was there and so we took on a huge building project and are thrilled with the results, our guests feel the same way too
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
The site dates back to Napoleonic times when the site was used by the French military to school their horses. This continued into the early part of the 20th century and within an old ruined stable in the grounds the names of horses are still visible with the dates of their schooling
Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
We are aware of rumours of the property being used as a military school for horses and also a POW camp for the Italians during the second world war
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do? Visit Chateau Bridoire with the kids or hire an electric bike and escape into the vineyards, take in all of the local markets and of course enjoy the wine and food on offer
Really eat? Foie Gras and Duck
Really see? Eymet at night time and if they are lucky to be there when the torch lit tour is on it is a real must
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area? Come all year round there is always something to do, whether it is the vibrancy of the summer festivals, the chocolate tasting at Easter, the haunted chateaux’s in October, truffle festivals in Spring or Christmas markets

Fantastic
Fantastic property and team. Beautiful location. Amazing pool especially for kids (in fact the whole property is). The team who took care of us - were kind, incredibly helpful and went above and beyond more than once. Just great.

We loved our stay!
Lovely house in beautiful surroundings .Having the bread and croissants delivered to us made life easy.

Luxury gite with amazing facilities, beautifully designed in fantastic setting
We stayed at Les Ecuries with our two small children (aged 3 and 6 months) for 2 whole glorious weeks. It was everything it promised to be. Luxury from the renovation and design down to every conceivable cooking instrument we might need. It was particularly well set up for children. Even the gate on the pool was child-safe, which gave us peace of mind to allow our eldest daughter to run around and enjoy herself in a safe environment. The pool deserves special mention - packed with fun toys for the kids (including not one but two slides) but also a rare full 25m length which meant the adults could get in some proper fitness swimming between the kids games. The surrounding lanes are also great for running, plus pretty walks along the river. The local village is fun and within simple walking distance. Our hosts could not have been more helpful - they ensured we had a fabulous holiday and I would thoroughly recommend this gite to families, couples or friends. We've already booked our return visit this year.

Fantastic holiday!
We had a wonderful stay at Les Ecuries. The gite was beautiful - stylishly appointed & fitted with everything you could wish for. Josh and Marianna were lovely hosts - friendly and helpful. The garden was beautiful and very peaceful. The hammock was my favourite spot! The pool was great and bigger than we expected. The fresh baguettes and pastries each morning delivered to the door were amazing! The local village was very pretty, and we enjoyed the atmosphere there (especially during the World Cup games!). However, we were very happy just relaxing on site. We would love to come back again - one of the best holidays we have had. Thank you!

Perfect luxury getaway for family & friends
An idyllic holiday location with fantastic high-end accommodation. Perfect for a romantic getaway or family holiday. The owners have created a luxury design for each gite, beautiful stone walls, crisp white sheets and modern stylish kitchen & bathrooms. The gites very well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing holiday! The children loved the pool, the play areas and exploring the grounds. This gite complex is close to the airport and in a walking distance to the beautiful village. There are also lots of places to visit within the surrounding areas including weekly markets, vineyards, and a lovely chocolate factory. It was fantastic holiday, in a beautiful location.

The most perfect hospitality and holiday experience...
I would urge every family and couple to visit this luxurious holiday home- beautiful, spacious and inspirational. The location is perfectly placed on the edge of a village and is the ideal place to stay. If relaxation is your thing- then this wonderful place has it all...equally if you like to swim, run and fish, Les Ecuries can provide this too. Most importantly, my wonderful holiday was made complete by the hospitality of Josh, Marianne and Mila. I will definitely be returning, and my friends will love the pool and massage options- Thank you for the perfect break!

A little piece of paradise
An absolutely stunning venue with the perfect host and hostess. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived right up until we left. I 100% recommend this to any groups looking for somewhere to stay in the South of France and I hope to visit again very soon.

Les Ecuries, Dordogne- 6 night break
From the beginning, the booking process was simple. The minute you arrive at Les Ecuries and your car travels across the gravel drive you begin to relax. Joshua and Mariana have a wonderful way of making all guests feel special and when you see the gite it is breathtaking. We stayed in Les Ecuries, a beautiful high vaulted ceiling in the living space with stunning original beams, immaculately decorated throughout. Modern well-equipped kitchen which fits in perfectly with the interior design. It is everything you expect of a perfect French experience. The grounds have rabbits. Small deer in the neighbouring fields. The river Dropt to walk along surrounding surrounds this stunning complex and the Dordogne River is a car drive away for kayaking. Owls and bats join the party in the evenings (only if the lights are off!) the poplars sing their own tunes as the wind rustles through them. The flora and fauna delight all the senses. The pool was a perfect temperature and there is a music option if you want it or you can just listen to the sound of the country-side. Don't take my word for this - try it for yourself. Perfect for everyone, families, couples or friends. We will be back!

Amazing gite in a beautiful setting
We stayed here for a few days to attend a wedding. The gite had everything you could need including a bbq and fresh croissants delivered to our door. It was lovely and clean, with plenty of towels provided. The heated outdoor pool was really well looked after with plenty of sunbeds and an inflatable crocodile. The owner was very welcoming and gave us some great recommendations on what to do and see in near by Bordeaux. We hope to stay here again soon!!

Wonderful!
Such a beautiful place to stay, fantastic facilities, very friendly and generous hosts. Easy access, walking distance, to the centre of the village.
-
C'est si bon d'aller aux Ecuries! An amazing place to enjoy with family and/or friends
The Gite we stayed in was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated; with all the amenities to make your stay so pleasant and relaxing. Fully stocked kitchen to enjoy your meals in after you've gone to the local farmer's market and cook in your gite, even includes a grill on your patio. You can dine on the outside patio or inside on the dining room table, it is so pleasant. The vineyards surround you; the landscape is breathtaking and serene. Enjoy a beautiful swimming pool or hike through the nature paths of Les Ecuries. The hosts are charming and welcoming and will help make your stay worthwhile and enjoyable.
-
Perfect Five Star Family Holiday
The gites are all really well equipped and nothing beats waking up to pastries and bread hanging on your door in the morning. The pool, football pitch and play areas keep the kids busy and are all within sight of the pool loungers. We walked and biked into the village which has everything you need for eating out or self-catering
