Overview

Pool Romantic

Bergerie Campagna is all about soaking up the charm of the Corsican countryside whilst being close to Porto Vecchio and its iconic beaches.

Surrounded by farmland where cows often graze, yet only 8km from the stunning bay at Plage de Saint Cyprien, this rustic home is ideal for a couple’s getaway on this beautiful island. With air-conditioning throughout, its open plan living space is warm and welcoming whilst the double bedroom has been simply furnished with pretty décor. The kitchen is perfectly equipped for al-fresco meals beneath the covered terrace and there’s a barbecue for guests to enjoy.

A little pool is just right for cooling off from the summer sun as you gaze out to the rural landscapes around you and there are shady trees across the picturesque grounds. This is simple, characterful living at its best in an original Corsican bergerie.

There’s a traditional hillside village around 2.5km away, home to a couple of highly regarded Corsican restaurants. In the other direction, you will find gorgeous beaches such as Grande Plage de Cala Rossa and Saint Cyprien around 7km by car, perfect for swimming in the crystal-clear sea or lounging on white sands. In the summer months, enjoy lunch in a beachside restaurant and partake in a range of watersports.

Porto Vecchio is one of the island’s most popular destinations with its natural harbour, old quarter, 16th-century citadel and warren of medieval lanes with restaurants, bars and enticing shops. Further south, the historic town of Bonifacio will take your breath away with its beauty and the citadel’s incredible setting above limestone cliffs.

Follow walking trails along the southern Corsican coastline, play golf in prestigious surroundings, take a boat trip to the idyllic Lavezzi Islands and hike through the glorious landscapes of the Forêt de l'Ospedale. Follow the scenic road towards Zonza and try out all sorts of outdoor adventures in the Col de Bavella or simply seek out rock pools and waterfalls along the Cavu and Solenzara rivers.

Bergerie Campagna is located 7km from Porto Vecchio, just over a 30-minute drive from Figari Airport and two hours from Bastia Airport.

Despite the rural farmland surroundings where cows often graze, within 500m you will be on the road connecting Bonifacio, Porto Vecchio and the north, allowing good access to other parts of the island. In the other direction, you are just a 5-minute drive from a little hillside village which is home to a couple of highly regarded Corsican restaurants off the usual tourist trail.

Plage de Saint Cyprien and Grande Plage de Cala Rossa are two of Porto Vecchio’s most iconic beaches, both very popular in the height of the summer - head out early to get a parking space. As well as beachside restaurants, you will find a good choice of seasonal watersports, beautiful white sands and crystal clear sea.

Further north is the equally wonderful Plage de Pinarellu (13km), a long stretch of beach backed by pine trees. The famous beaches of Palombaggia and Santa Giulia can be found further south, just over 15km by car, and they are best visited outside the height of the summer. There are further stunning bays and beaches along the southern coast towards Bonifacio and Figari – Plage de la Tonnara and Rondinara Beach are two of our many favourites.

Keen walkers can discover coastal walking trails as well as incredible hikes through La Forêt de l'Ospédale and Col de Bavella. Driving north, via winding roads, head to the characterful village of Zonza for all sorts of outdoor adventures such as rock-climbing and canyoning or head towards the rockpools and waterfalls along the Cavu and Solenzara rivers, much-loved swimming spots in magnificent surroundings.

Spend time in Corsica’s delightful towns as well – Porto Vecchio (7km) is one of Corsica’s most visited destinations and has a reputation for its glamour in the busy summer months. Yet it’s also full of historic charm with its 16th century fortifications and warren of narrow lanes, shops and restaurants in the old quarter.

Bonifacio (35km) is a breathtakingly beautiful place to spend the day – its citadel is perched high above the limestone cliffs and you can enjoy the most spectacular sea views as you potter around its lanes filled with Corsican restaurants and artisan shops. Boats depart the marina to the Lavezzi Islands – pack a picnic and plenty of water for a lovely trip out to these remote and wonderful isles.

Region

From the family-friendly beaches of Porto Vecchio to the dramatic mountain peaks of the Col de Bavella, the southern region of the Mediterranean’s fourth largest island offers you the diverse landscapes, historic towns and iconic coastline that Corsica is so famous for.

Starting in the south-eastern corner of the island, the coastline is truly impressive with turquoise coloured water and soft sand often backed by beachside restaurants and shady trees. Embrace the scent of salt air and pines at Plage de Pinarellu with its crystal-clear sea or spend the day at Plage de Saint Cyprien famed for its gently-shelving shores and summer watersports. On the other side of Porto Vecchio bay are the two famous beaches of Palombaggia and Santa Giulia – head out early to avoid the many visitors who flock to these photogenic beaches in the height of the summer. Further south, Plage de Rondinara is yet another idyllic bay with shallow clear water and fine white sand.

Experience the glamour of Porto Vecchio, once a historic harbour and citadel, now a vibrant town increasingly loved by jet-setters who appreciate its character and natural beauty. It’s a joy to potter around Porto Vecchio’s old town in the evening with boutiques, bars and a range of restaurants for every taste (seafood, pizzas, salads as well as more traditional Corsican dishes).

The jewel of southern Corsica is arguably the exquisite town of Bonifacio with its historic citadel perched above dramatic limestone cliffs and the most incredible vistas of the sea. The citadel’s warren of medieval lanes will enchant you and there is a wealth of restaurants to choose from showcasing some of Corsica’s delicious cuisine – imagine lamb and rosemary, wild boar casserole with chestnuts, cannelloni au brocciu and Mediterranean seafood. Boats from the marina whisk you away to the Lavezzi Islands for more serene beauty. Meanwhile, keen golfers will already be familiar with the prestigious Golf de Spérone in a spectacular setting with views towards Sardinia.

Heading towards the south-west of the island, pass the wilder shores of the Figari coastline (Plage de la Tonnara is a  favourite) and venture through the mountainous landscapes of forest, vineyards and olive groves towards the mountain village of Sartène with its charming squares, restaurant terraces and wonderful market on a Saturday morning. Don’t miss pristine bays along the Valinco Gulf such as Campomoro and Porto Pollo as well as the pre-historic menhirs of Filitosa, before eventually arriving into the handsome city of Ajaccio, birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The rugged interiors of southern Corsica are also not to missed from the pine and beech forests of the Forêt de l'Ospédale near Porto Vecchio to the mountain village of Zonza and the incredible Col de Bavella peaks. Discover walking trails, hiking routes, rock-climbing, canyoning  and other adventures amidst the awe-inspiring scenery of Corse-du-Sud.

Whether you choose a rural bergerie near Porto Vecchio, a more contemporary abode overlooking the sea or a beautiful getaway with mountain views, Oliver’s Travels is proud to offer a range of hand-picked villas in southern Corsica.
