With the city’s Old Town around 15 minutes’ drive away, this well-located property offers glorious views and great outdoor spaces, including a heated pool and hot tub.
Just 300m from the beach, Villa Maro is conveniently located for local amenities, yet also offers privacy and peace. The terrace area gives you lots to enjoy, with a lounge area, hammock and a covered dining area and kitchen complete with bar seating and TV. There’s a large barbecue to keep the food coming all evening, as well as a magnificent hot tub from which to enjoy views of the beautiful surroundings.
In a separate area above, you have the heated pool and sun deck with plenty of loungers and parasols. And if all that’s not enough, there’s even a basketball court and table tennis should you fancy a game.
Inside, modern living spaces with rustic touches offer optimal comfort. The living room has two large sofas and an LCD TV with satellite channels. There’s ample dining space and a well-equipped kitchen which open out on to a balcony with sea view.
Two king-size bedrooms are complemented by two more with twin beds – these can be converted to king-size beds if needed. Neutral tones and splashes of colour lend a stylish feel to these rooms, which are complemented by three bathrooms.
This idyllic stretch of coast is the ideal base for exploring Dubrovnik. You’ll be around 10 minutes from the Trsteno Arboretum and not much further from the fortified Old Town. Good beaches, excellent restaurants and mountain-bound cable car rides will provide plenty to remember about your stay, while a voyage to the beautiful Elafiti Islands should also be on your to-do list.

The coast north of Dubrovnik is lined with pretty spots much quieter than the bustling city. Beaches, olive groves and vineyards all contribute to its beauty. East of Dubrovnik, it’s not long before Croatia ends and Bosnia & Herzegovina begins, while Montenegro is less than an hour’s drive south. In this direction, you have yet more idyllic coastal spots, such as Cavtat and Molunat, that are worth exploring.
Despite the many attractions further out, it’s Dubrovnik’s Old Town that is the focus for many visitors. To be fair, it is stunning – walking the City Walls is an experience which rewards you with spectacular Adriatic views. For more of those, you can take a cable car ride up to Mt Srd. As you do, you can also admire the Old Town and look out to the nearby islands.
A cultural hub, the city lays on plenty of entertainment, whether on the streets or in venues across town. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival is an annual event, as is a Venetian-style carnival each February. You can visit an array of museums in the city, including the Maritime Museum and a Museum of Modern Art.
You may also like to check out the Red History Museum, dedicated to the 20th-century days of Yugoslavia, which features various curious artefacts of the time. Venture south of Dubrovnik, and you’ll soon come to Lovrenijac, a sturdy fortress which these days hosts theatrical performances.
Tourism in Dubrovnik has benefitted greatly from its prominence in the series Game of Thrones. Various organised excursions will show you the places featured, one of which lies just up the coast from Zaton and Orašac – the Trsteno Arboretum. Combine your visit with a stop-off in nearby Brsečine, former home of Croatian poetess, Cvijeta Zuzorić. An idyllic beach is not too far from the arboretum.
Down the coast, captivating Cavtat is both charming and richly historic. Attractions here include the Rector’s Palace and the House of Vlaho Bukovac, dedicated to a noteworthy local artist. Head
beyond Dubrovnik Airport, and you could also stop at Molunat. Said to be Croatia’s southernmost visitor destination, its sandy beaches, fragrant pine woods and the relative isolation make it an appealing one. There are a couple of good restaurants and a few bars, but not too much else – perfect for when you want a lazy day away from the crowds.
Plage de Zaton
Dubrovnik is one of the world’s most beautiful walled cities, and one of the most interesting places to stay in Europe. The old town is a knot of limestone streets – worth getting lost in, to stumble upon elegant palazzi and baroque churches. Beyond the sturdy medieval fortifications is a stunning rocky coastline, dotted with pebbly beaches, while islands cast adrift from mainland Croatia are just ready to be explored.
While you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Dubrovnik you may well want to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Dubrovnik and the wider region provide lots for kids to enjoy. Start in the city itself with a cable car ride to the top of Mt. Srd. After a day of climbing the city’s steep hills, this is going to be a treat – and on the way up, they can admire stunning sea and city views.
Walking the Old Town walls is another way to get a good look at the Adriatic. Begin your walk at Pile Gate, Ploče Gate or the Maritime Museum, with water and snacks in your bag to keep everyone’s stamina up – the walls can get crowded and very hot during the summer.
Dubrovnik also has some nice beaches not too far from the centre of the city. Within walking distance, Banje Beach is a good choice for families, while Lapad Beach has shallow waters, play areas and ice cream stalls. This beach is a short bus ride away, and ideal for younger children.
Dog lovers may also like to visit Dubrovnik’s Zarkovica Animal Shelter. Funded entirely by donations, this shelter looks after more than 300 rescue dogs and visiting them is sure to be an experience that kids with pets will appreciate.
The eco-friendly adventure park, Cadmos Village, is located about 30 minutes south of Dubrovnik – not far from the airport. This park is great for a family day out, offering exciting challenges and activities like paintballing, archery and zip-lines. Also very scenic is the Trsteno Arboretum, not far from Orašac. Alongside areas of woodland and gardens, there’s a maze for younger kids to get lost in, while teenagers may enjoy Trsteno for its Game of Thrones status (it appears in the show as the King’s Landing Gardens).
A boat trip to the beautiful Elafiti Islands is the perfect way to spend a day. Some cruises include lunch and the opportunity to swim off the boat, and you will find no shortage of them leaving Dubrovnik. You will be able to visit the largest of the islands, Šipan, as well as Lopud and Koločep. With a combined population of less than 1000 people, they are wonderfully peaceful and unspoilt.

Great vacation and amazing place
Our family from Finland has been first time in Croatia and stayed for week in this wonderful holiday home. Holiday home is situated in nice seaside location 10 minutes drive from center of Dubrovnik, beach and restaurants within walking distance from holiday home. We were recommended Restaurant Kasar in Zaton Veliki. I really cannot sing enough praise about this holiday home, the owner and the local Croatian people. We been all very satisfied with our family holiday in Dubrovnik Riviera and this holiday home. We really recommend it. Thank you for all !!!
Amazing in every way!
We had a fabulous week in a fabulous country in a fabulous villa!
The villa is situated in Zaton a small resort with a couple of bars and water sports facilities. It is a beautiful, easy walk along to the next resort which offers a few more restaurants and shops. The views are spectacular. Irena suggested places of interest and shared local information regarding which shops are cheaper etc. Having 2 mini supermarkets one either side of the villa made it so convenient for all provisions. There was plenty of room in the villa with 4 ample double bedrooms with air conditioning. The indoor and outdoor kitchen were both well stocked with everything you could need. The weather was glorious so we had a BBQ most evenings. The sun loungers and outdoor furniture were of good quality and comfortable for lazy days around the pool. The pool was clean and inviting, the hot tub a bonus if the weather hadn't been so warm! There was also shade available at all times of the day! The villa is set on 3 levels so looking out from the pool terrace you can see across to the islands and watch the sun setting in Zaton bay.
The villa has everything you need. The outside space is just amazing. You have a kitchen, eating area, sitting area, hot tub and bbq on one level and then a fantastic pool and sun loungers up another level. The pool area is very private and you have good views over the bay. You also have a couple of balconies from the villa to spoil you as well.
We very much hope to return.
