Duce really is a very charming location, quiet and peaceful right on a stunning beach. Stare Duce (Old Duce) is located at the foot of the mountain Mosnjica and has only 24 houses. Other old villages that are worth visiting while you are here are Zeljovici, Krug and Staro Jesenice.

Of course, Omis is a jewel! At the mouth of the magnificent Centina river, it boasts many historical attractions, gorgeous restaurants and many adventures that you can book. It is known as the ‘Pirate Town’. You should visit the 13th-century pirate Fortress Mirabella behind the old town where you will get a fantastic view over the surrounding beauty of the Brac bay. The hour’s climb to the Fortress Starigrad is definitely worth it. The Omis Summer Festival is such fun with acapella singing in churches and squares around the town. Velika Plaza is a 700m long sandy beach with playground, volleyball, football and windsurfing. Slavinj and Brzet Beaches are pebble beaches with lots of lovely shade if that is what you are looking for.

The Cetina River and its enthralling attractions are an absolute must! No teenager will want to leave without zip-lining across the canyon, rafting in the rapids or paragliding! It is a total dream for anyone adventurous and courageous!

A great way of getting around Split is by segway. You will visit the historical attractions as well as the wonderful Bene beach and wine shops. Otherwise, there are many walking tours or you can stroll along at your own pace taking in the Golden Gate, Diocletian’s Palace and Saint Domnius Cathedral. The Diocletian’s Palace was built in 305AD! The Old Town is a maze of streets and cobblestoned lanes. People’s Square (Narodni Trg) is at the heart of it with cafes and restaurants spilling out onto it. Gazing up at the old town clock at night is just beautiful. With excellent options for dining, drinking and nightlife, Split is much loved by visitors these days! It is also very popular to stroll along the river. With its palm trees and colourful buildings, it is really pretty. It is very easy to arrange trips to the beautiful Hvar and Brac islands.

Trogir is another coastal city just 35 minutes further on from Split. You can take a ferry if you do not want to drive. It is a gorgeous tiny town to visit. The entire Old Town is located on an island.

Region

The Dalmatian coast is a veritable treasure trove of stunning landscapes and historic towns, and Omis, situated halfway between the famous port city of Split and the energetic town of Maksarka, is no exception. With its rich history, scenic backdrop, and a plethora of attractions, Omis stands out as a unique and captivating destination for those seeking to explore the charm of Croatia. The town's history is deeply intertwined with its dramatic geographical setting, which is dominated by the imposing Cetina River Canyon and the Mosor Mountain Range.

The old town of Omis, with its narrow cobblestone streets and stone houses, is a place where history and culture converge. It’s a charming place to explore on foot and soak up the local way of life. There are a number of historic churches that you’ll come across while exploring - the Church of St. Michael, the Church of St. Peter, and the Church of St. Rocco, which all showcase intricate architectural details and a sense of reverence. The old town is also home to an abundance of restaurants, cafes, and local shops, it’s an excellent spot to savour authentic Croatian dishes and find unique souvenirs.

One of the most prominent historical attractions in the town is the Mirabella Fortress, often called Peovica. Perched high on a rocky outcrop, this fortress was built during the 13th century and was used as a hideout by the notorious Omis pirates who terrorised the Adriatic Sea. Today, visitors can climb up the steep path to the fortress and enjoy panoramic views of the town, the coast, and the surrounding landscapes.

Omis boasts a pristine stretch of coastline with a variety of beaches, each catering to different tastes. One of the most popular is the sandy beach at the mouth of the Cetina River, offering calm waters perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Adventurous spirits may prefer the pebbly beach of Brzet, known for its perfect conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Just a short drive from Omis, there's the small village of Stanici, which is renowned for its unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear waters. It's a serene place to relax and escape the crowds often found in more touristy locations.

The Cetina River is a defining feature of Omis, and one of the most exhilarating activities here is to take a rafting excursion along its emerald waters. The river cuts through the impressive Cetina Canyon, creating a thrilling white-water rafting experience that appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. The journey offers panoramic views of the rugged cliffs, lush forests, and the charming villages that dot the landscape.

The nearby Biokovo Nature Park is an outstanding natural attraction. The Biokovo Mountain Range, part of the Dinaric Alps, offers incredible hiking opportunities, with well-marked trails leading to panoramic viewpoints where you can marvel at the Adriatic Sea and the islands scattered along the coast. The juxtaposition of the rugged mountain terrain and the azure waters is simply stunning and will leave a lasting impression.

The history, natural beauty, and cultural vitality of Omis combine to create a destination that is rich in character and charm. Whether you're seeking adventure on the Cetina River, exploring the medieval fortresses, or simply savouring the local cuisine, Omis has something to offer every traveller who ventures to this utterly enchanting corner of the Dalmatian coast.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Villa Fryeri is a marvellous villa for families and children. It is so spacious, the swimming pool is incredible plus there is a playroom with toys for young children. The beach is so close too!

Children will be in heaven on the Cetina river! On a 150m high steel wire, they can zip-line at speeds up to 65km an hour over 2km. How exciting is that! They can also jump off rocks up to 5 metres high, swim and take a shower under a spring water waterfall. There is still so much to do though even if they are timid!

When in Split, Harry Potter fans might recognise the cellar in the Diocletian’s Palace. Deanerys kept her dragons there when she was in Meereen in the film. Children will love climbing to the top of the bell tower of St Domnius Cathedral too. It boasts the best view of Split. A visit and picnic at Klis Fortress is a good day out as a family. The fortress sits high on the hillside overlooking Split. Again was a filming location for Game of Thrones.

The Krka National Park is a fantastic place to visit with children. You can swim, take a boat ride, stand under spring water waterfalls and jump off rocks! It is such a fun day out!

Children can also experience the miracle of nature at the Blue Cave on Bisevo Island. A boat trip will also include swimming and snorkelling in the beautiful bays of Stiniva and Stoncica. You can arrange kayaking from many places along this fantastic coastline.
