The villa’s amazing infinity-edged swimming pool, nestled amongst the garden’s tropical plants, is the ideal place to unwind at any time of the day. Here, you will be treated to unforgettable views of the Caribbean Sea at sunset, before relaxing over a leisurely dinner and a cocktail in the glass-paneled outdoor dining area. This area also includes a modern barbecue grill. The terrace offers guests comfortable poolside sun loungers, where you can sunbathe all afternoon or enjoy a good book in the seclusion of your own private garden.
Villa Rae’s interior space offers guests an abundance of contemporary charm, with décor that serves to highlight the amazing views and echoes the natural beauty of the surrounding island. Accessed via wide patio doors, the open-plan living space encompasses a comfortable lounge and a modern kitchen. The lounge features ultra-comfortable sofas and a flat screen TV, making it the perfect place to relax after a day spent exploring the wonders of Antigua. The lounge area flows harmoniously into the spacious, modern kitchen, equipped with everything you might need to prepare a Caribbean feast in the evening. The kitchen also features a breakfast bar, where you can enjoy your morning cup of coffee with a view of the sparkling blue water.
Upstairs, Villa Rae offers two double bedrooms with king-size beds, en-suite bathrooms, and plenty of natural light. About the surrounding area of Villa RaeAntigua and Barbuda are a nation made up of two sister islands and several smaller islets, all situated in the heart of the Caribbean. The fantastic location of Tamarind Hills on Antigua’s southwest coastline means you will have access to the fine white sands of two idyllic beaches, Ffryes and Darkwood. Surrounded by dense green hilltops, Ffryes Beach is a popular spot with tourists and locals alike. Here, you can spend the day snorkeling in the turquoise waters, before indulging in an excellent dinner at one of the restaurants on the marina at nearby Jolly Harbour.
Slightly further afield, Nelson’s Dockyard National Park is one of five national parks in Antigua. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this eighteenth-century British naval dockyard is an area of great historical significance on the island, as well as a popular venue for maritime events and activities. For those who wish to experience the magic for themselves, there are plenty of sailing excursions and water-based activities available.
There are plenty of fantastic trekking trails around the island, taking in sandy beaches, rainforests and dreamlike coastal views. For a challenging hike, put on your hiking shoes and visit Mount Obama, the highest peak in Antigua. From the summit, enjoy the panoramic views, before descending to Cades Bay for a delightfully refreshing dip in the ocean.
Don’t forget to visit Shirley Heights, a restored military lookout known for its bewitching views and community feel. With a popular street party happening every Sunday evening, visitors are welcome to enjoy the music of live Caribbean steel drum bands, taste some of the local food and rum punch and take in the breathtaking sights as the sun begins to go down on the beautiful island of Antigua.

Antigua is a popular destination for watersports, with sea kayaking and kitesurfing lessons widely available along the coast. Boat tours are also possible, including day tours to Antigua’s sister island, Barbuda. Some ninety minutes across the water, one of the highlights of a trip to Barbuda is a visit to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary, which is home to thousands of exotic red-throated birds. Back in Antigua, you can visit the island’s wonderful donkey sanctuary, where children are encouraged to feed the friendly animals.
A day spent hiking around Nelson’s Dockyard is another great way to get closer to nature. Ascend to the stunning panoramic views of Shirley Heights on a quiet weekday afternoon, for a scenic hike that everyone will remember. This is a relatively easy hike but do make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and pack plenty of water. You will find handy trail maps available to download online.
For an introduction to a truly important facet of Antiguan culture, why not take everyone to watch a local cricket match? The island is devoted to its national sport, which is played everywhere, though official matches tend to take place on weekends. Later, drive to St. John’s, where older children will enjoy the vibrancy and colour of the island’s capital. Here, families can visit any of the local restaurants to sample some of the island’s delicacies.
Head out for a coastal drive and within twenty minutes you will reach the Antigua Rainforest Canopy Park, where a thrilling day of rainforest adventure awaits! With experienced instructors to guide you at every point along the way, you will cross suspension bridges and rope obstacles, ziplining above the tree-tops and crisscrossing a stunning gorge. Don’t forget to take a break in the magical twin tree houses tucked away in the dense rainforest. This is an exhilarating day out that varies in intensity, with a range of family-friendly eco-activities available and options to suit all age groups.
Darkwood Beach is the perfect place for everyone to enjoy a relaxing sunset swim, before a delicious barbecue together on the terrace. Children will be sure to sleep soundly once the stars have come out, after another fun day of island adventures!
