Overview of The Tobacco Barn

What Oliver loves…

  • Extremely bright, modern and spacious with unique wooden exterior
  • The enormous wooden balcony off the master bedroom has a stunning panoramic view of the Dordogne countryside.
  • It's a quick jaunt into Monpazier for the staples: fresh bread, cheese and wine.

What you should know…

  • A car is a must due to the rural location.

The beauties of rural France mingle with the highest quality interior design in The Tobacco Barn, a unique holiday home in the Dordogne. This architect-designed barn conversion sits on an acre of private grounds, including a lawned garden, a large private pool and a shaded dining terrace with BBQ.

Inside, the light-filled living room features modern furniture, an innovative feature fireplace, TV with UK satellite channels and doors to the front terrace where you can enjoy expansive views of the countryside. Two of the four bedrooms have stunning en-suite bathrooms with distinctive tilework, and another has both a bunk-bed and two singles, ideal for children.

This family-friendly holiday home is just 5 km from Monpazier, a scenic bastide village with every amenity you need, including Bistrot 2, an excellent traditional bistro restaurant. Foodies will want to partake of the Perigordian cuisine of the Dordogne region, including foie gras, truffles and Bergerac wine. Explore the weekly markets in Monpazier or Lalinde for the area’s specialties.

Nestled in a small hamlet near Monpazier, The Tobacco Barn is between Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Sarlat-la-Caneda, and Bergerac in Dordogne, just 45 minutes from the Bergerac international airport.

The Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Reviews for The Tobacco Barn

The Tobacco Barn Reviews

  • We would highly recommend the Tobacco Barn to anyone

    Posted by Anonymous on 04/07/2015

We have just spent a fantastic week at the Tobacco Barn. It's in a superb location very close to Monpazier which is just gorgeous and the other Dordogne attractions are not far away. The accommodation is very modern and comfortable and we wanted for nothing. Even evening entertainment of the local barn owl searching for food for its young was laid on!

  • The barn is fantastic, the finishing touches were perfect..

    Created on 08/06/2014

The barn is fantastic, the finishing touches were perfect and you could really feel and appreciate the quality. The beds were all ridiculously comfortable (although my bed at home now feels likes sleeping on a brick in comparison!) the kitchen facilities were excellent, plenty of space to prepare the food etc. and the living room was stunning (we all loved the lighting feature!). My family and I stayed at the Tobacco Barn for a week in late August 2012, there were five adults and two young children and we all were incredibly sad to leave. The facilities at the barn are excellent and the decor is absolutely stunning, the staircase is a wonderful surprise! In total, there are three double rooms with the forth bedroom housing the 3 children's beds, all of which are beautifully decorated and fitted out with everything you would expect. The Tobacco Barn is located in quite a remote area, and a car is a must. The nearest bastide is approximately a 5 minute drive, which is perfect for the household's fresh bread, cheeses and wines (the necessities!). All in all my family and I had a fabulous time and we are already considering making it a regular annual trip....

  • Highest standard and quality

I have watched this barn being developed from a shell to a fabulous holiday home build to the highest standard and quality. Great location!!

Owner Profile

Property Owner
Richard

How long have you owned the property?
5 years

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
We loved the fact that it was a derelict pile of rotting timber when we bought it!! It gave us an opportunity to make a property exactly how we would want it if we were holidaying in the Dordogne!

Are there any interesting stories in its history?
It was actually used - not so long ago - to dry tobacco... There was even some still in there when we bought the property!!

Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
Not sure, I think we have as a few have flown in on private jets, but we try to leave people to it!

What’s the strangest or most difficult guest request you’ve ever received
"The pool isn't big enough!!"

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?
As little as possible, RELAX!

Really eat?
Everything possible, it's all so lovely!!

Really see?
Your family! Time to switch the phone and wifi off.

Lastly, what insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Don't travel too far away, there is so much locally... Do the markets!
