Overview of Chateau Duras

What Oliver loves…

  • The kitchen is enormous and leads straight out on to the courtyard dining tables & BBQ area. Truly the heart of the house and where you'll spend many hours with wine in hand!
  • All the rooms are of grand proportions so there is a wonderful sense of space. The same can be said of the grounds which are also immaculately kept.
  • The chateau is set in a very secluded & private location with fantastic views of the rolling hills and vineyards - ultimate relaxation territory.
  • Very accessible as all accommodation is on the ground floor

What you should know…

  • Peak weeks are often booked out a year an advance so book early!
  • One of the bedrooms can only be accessed via another bedroom so this works best as a family suite.

Chateau Duras is a beautiful and historic rural Chateau with private tennis court and heated pool set in the vineyards of South West France. The Chateau is very private yet has easy access to the activities of the Dordogne River, championship golf, markets, towns and restaurants.

The Chateau sleeps 11 in great comfort. All rooms are large and furnished with French antiques and art work. There is a lot of space and fantastic views surrounded by a clipped hedge in 2.5 acres of private grounds. Food and drink are important aspects of the experience and there are splendid places to dine and relax all around the Chateau.

Map, Location & Local Information

The local village (3 minute drive) has restaurants and an excellent baker.  The closest town, Duras, (7 minute drive) has supermarkets, shops and leisure facilities. The River Dordogne and Championship golf are both with 15 minutes drive of the Chateau.  Bergerac and Ste. Emillion are half an hour away. Bordeaux is an hour and 15 minutes drive.

The Chateau is surrounded by local wine and food producers who are happy to conduct tastings. There are walks and outdoor activities throughout the surrounding area. Kayaking on the Dordogne River and go-karting are also available to keep the kids entertained.

A fully comprehensive house-book is provided at the chateau that details all the local things to do, towns and villages to explore. Best of all, it lists and rates the local restaurants and even highlights the ones that you mustn't miss during your stay.

    Amazing Chateau!!

Truly delivers everything the website promises.

The nice side of the chateau is that it has all the amenities to accommodate the number of guests advertised - both in sleeping, entertaining and relaxing space.

Jane, who looks after the chateau, is great - accommodating with every request and full of knowledge of the local area.

    Cannot recommend the chateau more!

  • Multi-generational family holiday heaven

We were a group of grandparents to grandchildren and all absolutely loved the chateau. It's the perfect place for a family reunion. Lovely enclosed grounds meant it was safe for the toddlers to roam and various beautiful terrace areas made for the perfect post bedtime glass of rose!

  • We hope to return!!!

We’d like to thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful, very tastefully furnished Chateau. You must be very proud of it. We hope to be able to return some day, perhaps for 2 weeks next time. Many thanks again for a great holiday.

We had a fantastic week. The Chateau is quite beautiful and I am unashamed to say that we did as little as we could possibly do in a week. We were blessed by the hot weather and our tennis and swimming has definitely improved!

Thank you again and hope to return some time soon.

Owner Profile

Property Owner
Erica

How long have you owned the property?
14 years.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
Its rural Charm and Frenchness; it has a magical quality that is hard to describe but it was love al first sight.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?
The border of the Bordeaux wine appellation was drawn around the property in the 1850s; it was owned for 400 years by the same protestant clerics' family, counter to the reversal of the treaty of Nante that disallowed Protestants to be major property owners. Paul Revere (Longfellow poem fame) came from here.

Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
We try to be very discrete.

What’s the strangest or most difficult guest request you’ve ever received?
A lady heard we had Dalmatian dogs and arrived with her 6 adult Dalmations to pay us a visit!

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?

Spend time on the Dordogne River

Really eat?
Food from the local Markets

Really see?
The local Vineyards if they can tear themselves away from the comfort of the property

Lastly, what insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Enjoy the Chateau and find your own space; there is a lot of it. Explore the area. Relax and chill out. Try all the local wines and eat the local produce; it always taste better than anything you can get at home!
