Overview
It is so romantic to stay up in the hills at Villa Karasi. This modern villa is located in the village of Islamar, in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains. It is a spectacular location with the mountain backdrop and views across vineyards and olive groves down to the sea at Kalkan. Villa Karasi enjoys two bedrooms, a superb open plan living space and a gorgeous terrace with a pool. It is ideal for two couples, a family or perhaps you might want to indulge yourselves and take the villa for a romantic getaway.
Islamar is a charming village just ten minutes drive from Kalkan and its beautiful coastline. Set in the mountains with an abundance of fruit trees, olive groves, vineyards and trout farms, guests enjoy a tranquil, totally unspoilt location, breathtaking panorama and delicious cuisine as well as gaining an insight into beautiful rural Turkish life which has remained unchanged for many years. You will enjoy simple, authentic Turkish food bursting with flavour at the village restaurants. Not only that, the temperature is a few degrees lower than at the coast so it can be very refreshing after a day on the beach. Kalkan is one of Turkey’s prettiest resorts brimming with fabulous restaurants, hilly, narrow cobbled streets covered with vibrant, cascading bougainvillea, independent shops, flower adorned courtyards and fabulous cocktail bars. Delicious gastronomic cuisine is offered from the town’s three hundred and fifty plus restaurants, some tucked away on secret corners, some hidden away in pretty warrens and some high up on rooftops where you will delight in the sensational sea views, especially at sunset.
Villa Karasi is very spacious with open plan living and two generous bedrooms. The living space offers an excellent glossy white kitchen with all the appliances you could possibly need for your self-catering stay. Next to this is a modern dining table and chairs followed by the living space which is sprinkled with colourful artworks and soft furnishings. Here you can relax on a giant corner sofa watching the large television or making plans for the next day. Very wide, floor-to-ceiling doors open to the terrace and the most spectacular of views.
The master bedroom suite is enormous and full of eye-catching furnishings and artworks. There are vibrant colour splashes alongside white walls and furniture. The room benefits from an ensuite bathroom with a shower and a jacuzzi bath. What luxury! You can wake in your comfy double bed in the morning and open the doors to the terrace for an early morning swim or to enjoy a cup of coffee on the terrace. The twin bedroom also enjoys colourful splashes on the walls with modern art and a feature wall. Guests staying in this room have a beautiful, spacious shower room to enjoy. They too have direct access to the terrace.
The terrace is a stunner with beautiful views, a wonderful swimming pool, loungers, a luxurious hammock, bean bag chairs, a built-in barbecue and a fabulous alfresco dining area under a contemporary sail canopy. The terrace is completely secluded, a totally idyllic spot in the mountains.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa KarasiIslamar Village is delightful. It is friendly, charming and completely authentic. It sits in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains with a fabulous backdrop and extraordinary views down to the sea. The village still uses a water-powered millstone where the flour for local residents is ground. It is very unspoilt and boasts some excellent village restaurants where you can eat the freshest of fish from the trout farms. All the ingredients are locally grown, organic and bursting with flavour. Small waterfalls, springs and mountain streams provide constant fresh water giving natural irrigation and feeding the trout pools. The village is close to part of the famous Lycian Way so is also a great pick for walkers. Uzulmu is another quaint village close by that similarly gives you a feel for the real Turkey. It too sits in the mountain foothills with extraordinary scenery.
Roughly ten minutes down at the sea is the enchanting town of Kalkan. Until the 1920’s, Kalkan was a sleepy fishing village and today it remains an unspoiled despite being a popular spot with tourists. It is a captivating destination awash with nature, historic architecture, bougainvillea-draped streets, rooftop restaurants and sparkling turquoise, crystal clear sea. The busy harbour looks very attractive, full of yachts, gilets and boats awaiting tourists who want to explore the coast or enjoy some watersports. The town enjoys many bathing platforms for sun worshippers, a number of beach clubs and a small central beach. Other beach options nearby are the sandy cove of Kaputas, ten minutes away and the stunning sandy Patara Beach. Sprinkled along the narrow, hilly streets are Ottoman-Greek whitewashed chic boutiques and gift shops selling textiles, clothes, ‘designer’ handbags and very pretty jewellery. The town’s charming restaurants offer varied menus of Turkish mezes, zesty salads and plenty of fresh fish. Boat trips can be taken from Kalkan harbour on traditional gulets or other boats. The gulet trips are wonderful and usually come with a traditional meal. Visitors enjoy exploring the local bays, beaches and sea caves while others go further to Kekova, one of the most beautiful areas of the Turkish coast. Other popular excursions include those to the village of Ucaoyz and glass-bottom boat trips, all of which include swim stops. There are also romantic moonlight cruises and sunset trips. Thrillseekers can be taken to the top of the mountains to paraglide over the coast.
For a total change from beach days, visitors seeking a little adventure enjoy kayaking along the Dalyan River or visiting the majestic and dramatic Saklikent Gorge which was opened as a national park in 1996. The gorge is 18km long and 300m deep. Visitors wade through chilly water, climb, swim and slide through the gorge and its many boulders and tunnels. It is exhilarating and great fun with the fresh mountain water often up to waist height. Guides can lead you through offering so much fun. River rafting and dining by the waterside are additional options at this fantastic location.
Patara is a fantastic historic site, perfect for an excursion. It boasts an ancient theatre, restored parliament building and impressive Roman baths. The preserved ‘ghost village’ of Kayakoy where hundreds of deserted, Greek-style houses and churches sit eerily on the hillside should also be on your list of excursions. It was abandoned after the Turkish-Greek population exchange of 1923 and is eerily silent.

Islamlar
Islamlar sits 8 km above Kalkan. Once the place Kalkan folk went to cool off at one of the trout farms built to make use of the mountain’s springs. Today Islamlar houses many a villa, enjoyed by Istanbul Turks who prefer a holiday in slightly cooler and cleaner air. Here the locals grow grapes and pomegranates, but you’ll mainly see the men sat gossiping next to the local teahouse. The trout farms remain a place to come for a wonderful fresh meal, or a breakfast consisting of fresh local fare. The rocket will be the freshest & most tasty you’ve ever had; and the fresh chips cooked in olive oil take some beating.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Karasi is ideal for a family holiday. The villa enjoys a wonderful terrace and pool and a fabulous alfresco dining area. Children love barbecues on the terrace and there is likely to be a race for the hammock!
Kalkan is a brilliant resort for families. There are a fantastic range of boat trips from the harbour. Children love swimming in deserted coves, jumping from the boats and off rocks, spotting turtles swimming in the stunning azure waters and snorkeling around the coves. The traditional wooden Turkish gulets offer a fabulous day out with delicious fresh fish lunches cooked and served on the boat plus everyone is given the chance to jump in the sea. You can take boat trips to the small, beautiful, uninhabited island of Kekova. It is a delightful family excursion where you will discover the island’s remains of a sunken ancient city visible below the waves. The ruins are of the trading post, Simena which was destroyed by earthquakes in the second century.
Kalamar Bay boasts a superb range of watersports and a dive school where children can experience dives if they are old enough. Patara Beach’s 20km stretch of silver sand is an excellent beach option for families and is only twenty minutes away. The fascinating, ancient Patara ruins are located at one end of the beach. The ancient village of Patara is set in the middle of a national park where you can walk around 2000 year old Lycian ruins such as the magnificent amphitheatre and triumphal arch. Patara Beach is also an important site for loggerhead turtles which young ones love to spot. The white-shingle cove of Kaputas is also a popular pick. Families that enjoy walking can hike the old-time Lycian Way which meanders along the coast of Ancient Lycia.
Thrill seeking children love kayaking along the Xanthos River to Patara Beach, taking mud baths on the way or trips to the dramatic, magical Salikent Gorge. Children love clambering over rocks, sliding down them, finding tunnels and swimming to get through the gorge. It’s an Indiana-Jones style adventure and to top it off there is an optional river rafting trip at the end.
