Villa Rias enjoys a fantastic setting, just a few minutes from the closest beach and the charming town of Combarro. The nearest supermarket is just 100m away, and the closest airport is in Vigo, 14.4 miles away.

The village of Combarro is located six kilometres from the city of Pontevedra. The historical part of Combarro, which has been preserved perfectly, represents one of the most outstanding examples of the traditional sailor-style architecture that you can find in Galicia. Strategically located on the inner part of the river, it is very close to both the main touristic attractions of the Salnés area (Sanxenxo, Cambados, O Grove) and to the capital of the province; Pontevedra. For this reason, Combarro is one of the most visited destinations of the Rías Baixas. The old part of Combarro can be accessed from the plaza da Chousa via the street called Rúa do Mar.

Just under fifteen minutes’ drive away is the city of Pontevedra; the city itself is a mix of old and new, with several museums and historic sites to visit. Enjoy the restaurants and tapas bars located in the old and newer parts of the city, where traditional and delicious cuisine can be found. Pontevedra has been awarded with many international prizes for its urban development. The paved streets have been mostly pedestrianised and the buildings of the historic centre are not only beautiful, but full of life every day of the year.

Head to the stunning nearby beaches for some fun in the sun, as well as all the popular water sports. Check out the Santa María church, one of the best examples of religious architecture in Pontevedra. Dating back to the 16th century, the church was declared an artistic and historical monument in 1931. The building combines late Gothic with Renaissance architecture, with several fascinating monuments on view inside the church.

Ruínas de San Domingos is one of the oldest buildings in Pontevedra. The Santo Domingo Convent was founded in 1282, with construction continuing throughout the 15th century. Today only a few sections of the original convent buildings can still be seen, including the main apse, part of the south wall and the convent entrance. The building is considered to be an exceptional example of Gothic architecture in Galicia.

Approximately 80km away is also the fantastic city of Santiago de Compostela, a bustling and lively city full of culture and historical landmarks. The historic city has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, which considered it one of the most beautiful urban areas in the world. There are many reasons to visit this city: history, nature, leisure or gastronomy are some of the things that tourists can enjoy. Visit the famous cathedral, Saint Sign of Santiago, and get lost in the narrow streets and squares that make up its historic quarter with centuries of history and majestic buildings, many of them from medieval times.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain. Hop on and enjoy the view from your comfy seat; there's even a Galician Tourist Train pass! This discounted rail pass gives you access to various rail routes created by the Galician Regional Government and based on key elements of the region. Follow the Lighthouse Route along the northern coastline and stop to admire the lighthouses and gorgeous sea views, or hop on and follow one of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Routes to visit the lovely towns and wineries where acclaimed Galician wines are made and enjoyed. Check out the government website to grab your pass and plan your trip!

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages

Villa Rias offers ample room for a large family, with a large garden that is perfect for families with kids. The private pool will keep children entertained for hours! The central location means all amenities are within walking distance for ease. A cot and high-chair can also be provided. If kids get bored of the pool, the beach is also just a short walk away; kids can play in the sand or go snorkelling in the crystal-clear sea.

Guests will also find pretty beachside restaurants and a range of watersport activities on offer very close by. Go on a boating excursion and visit some of the nearby coves and beaches, or even go diving and witness all the rich marine life that the Balearic Sea has to offer!

Pontevedra area has one of the biggest archaeological collections in the world. The archaeological park of Campo Lameiro, is just under half an hour away from Pontevedra by car, and is certainly a must-see when visiting Rias Baixas. It is a mix of museum and real archaeology excavation; kids will love seeing the fascinating archaeological collection on offer here.

Santiago also has a number of well-maintained parks that are great fun for little kids. Nearly every green area houses a kids’ playground, some of which have been designed by leading architects such as this one in The Metropolitan Park near the zoo. The Mirador Parque da Alameda is a beautiful park with excellent views of Santiago city. Kids can feed the swans, run around a playground or attempt a workout on the public exercise equipment. It’s right next to the old part of town, so you can use it to take a break any time of day (shady trees are plentiful).

The Santiago Zoo will certainly go down a treat with children; lions, tigers, snakes and all kinds of animals are available to view here. You can also take the funicular from the zoo to the top of Cerro San Cristobal. You can either take it from the bottom of the hill, next to the entrance of the zoo, or half way up the hill from within the zoo itself. The ride is fun for children and the views of the city from the top of the hill are definitely a sight worth seeing.

Reviews

  • Wonderful stay!

    on 09/09/2023

The property is beautiful, and the owner was charming, we had a wonderful stay.

  • Amazing time at the villa!

    on 10/08/2022

We had an amazing time at the villa. The host Ermitas was so helpful and very lovely. Recommended us the best places to visit. We received wonderful welcome hamper on arrival. Certainly we will be back in the future. Thank you.

  • Bright house

    on 10/06/2019

The house is newly renovated, clean and bright. Each of the 6 rooms has a bathroom. It is situated in a nice quite area of Poio but with a short walking distance to a small supermarket. Nice half an hour walking paths to Combarro, which has some decent restaurants (and some tourist shops for those that like that) is highly recommended. Same goes for a walk up to the Poio monastery and then beyond up the hill. For those that want a bit of a city life, including shopping (nice local market), restaurants and museums, Pontevedra is only 10 minutes drive away. Similar driving distance in the other directions will take one to nice beaches.

  • WOW!

    on 01/05/2019

The host is amazing and wonderful to work with. She left snacks, water and juice for us and checked on us regularly to see if we needed anything else. The house is amazing with 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. Beautiful and serene views. Close to grocery store and some restaurants.
