Pollensa is a truly beautiful region and is home to a striking collection of enticing tourist attractions and destinations. If you are a lover of European history, a trip to Placa de l’Almoina is a must-do activity. This small square contains a grandiose house that was once used as a safe haven for some of Pollensa’s poorest citizens. The house was run by a group of wealthy university students who used their own funds to provide essential food and water to the local peasants. This square also hosted a vicious battle, which saw the local people defend themselves against harmful ambushers. To remember the bravery of these individuals, modern-day citizens hold a moving ceremony every August. Placa de l’Almoina can be found just a short walk away from the town centre.

Formentor Lighthouse is one of Pollensa’s most popular landmarks and is situated just under an hour away. This iconic monument was first constructed in 1863 and stands an astonishing 210 metres above sea level. Originally, this lighthouse was used to guide small fishing boats away from the sharp rocks that reside at the base of the shore. To this day, the lighthouse has managed to save and protect the local fishing population of Pollensa. In addition to its functional uses, Formentor Lighthouse was an incredible source of inspiration for a wealth of writers such as Gerardo Diego and Blas de Otero. Guests are welcome to take a short drive toward the peak of the lighthouse and bask in the panoramic views that surround them.

For those looking to explore an alluring underworld, Alzinaret Caves is a real treat. These caves are said to date back to the Middle Bronze Age, presenting a wide variety of well-preserved artefacts for guests to observe as they travel through. Despite their dated origins, these caves were actually discovered in 1927 by acclaimed British archaeologist Wilfred Hemp. As such, there is a cave named Number 7 of Hemp in his honour. Guests are free to explore the 14 caves at their own pace, and there is even a set of benches located outside for guests who would prefer not to go inside. Alzinaret Caves are based just over 10-minutes away.

Pollensa is an ideal destination if you are travelling with children, as it is filled with a variety of family-friendly attractions. If you are looking to immerse yourself in the wealth of delightful cultures and customs that can be found throughout the region, a trip to Pollensa Market is a perfect way to do so. This market boasts over 300 stalls, all of which present a stylish array of artisan goods, including bags, clothes, and jewellery. Thus, guests are free to purchase a few quirky souvenirs to remind them of their wonderful trip. There is also a section dedicated to fresh and locally-grown produce. In turn, guests can purchase a selection of fruits and vegetables to use in their own recipes back at Can Totxa. Pollensa Market is based just a short walk away from the town centre and welcomes guests every Sunday from 8 am to 1:30 pm.

Pollensa Museum is a highly sought-after attraction that is well known for its stunning selection of European contemporary art. Despite such avid acclaim, this museum was once just used to store a collection of ornate Gothic altarpieces. These pieces managed to gain a wealth of popularity and even received praise at the prestigious Summer Exhibition of Painting back in the 1960s. The museum finally opened its doors to the public in 1975 and is now home to the spectacular works of Atilio Boveri. Pollensa Museum is just a few minutes away from the town centre and is open every weekday from 10 am till 2 pm. An added bonus is that this museum is free to enter, making it an affordable attraction for those travelling on a budget.

For those looking to learn more about the biodiversity of this region, Joan March Gardens are a perfect place to start. These gardens were first established during the late 1980s as part of a celebration for the eldest son of the March family. Native citizens of Pollensa take pride in the fact that this family helped to push the area into an economic boom with their use of unique business ventures. This landscape is lined with rare cypress trees and olive trees, which can also be seen on the town’s traditional coat of arms. Joan March Gardens can be found just under 10-minutes away and are open 24 hours away, meaning that tourists can visit throughout their trip.
