Galicia is a hidden gem, and still remains largely off the typical tourist trail, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a beautiful Spanish retreat. Set on the edge of a small Gallician village steeped in history, Casa Corunna is just a few minutes’ walk to the local beach of Playa de Broña, and just 1km from Ría de Muros e Noia, the most remote of the four Rias Baixas regions. The Ria contains the towns of Muros and Noia, both gems, steeped in history and still retaining all their historical charm.

Casa Corunna is just a short drive to the local supermarket and amenities and surrounded by wonderful scenery. There are plenty of local restaurants and cafes along Playa de Broña beach for guests to enjoy, as well as many other beautiful beaches just a short distance away. Take a drive along the coastline and visit the local beaches of Rias Baixas.

The closest airport in Spain is Santiago de Compostela Airport 42km away. Whilst here, you might want to pay a visit to some of the following locations: Noia, Outes, Porto do Son, Muros and Mazaricos.

There are several UNESCO world heritage sites nearby. The closest heritage site in Spain is Santiago de Compostela, just over an hour away. A day trip here would certainly be a memorable one; history, nature, leisure or gastronomy are some of the things that tourists can enjoy. Visit the famous cathedral, Saint Sign of Santiago, and get lost in the narrow streets and squares that make up its historic quarter with centuries of history and majestic buildings, many of them from medieval times.

Santiago's food market is a fascinating, always lively scene, very clean, with masses of fresh produce from the seas and countryside attractively displayed at hundreds of stalls. Stock up on tetilla cheese, cured meats, sausage, fruit, empanada (pastry pie) or the tasty take-away dishes of Cocina María for a picnic. Numerous bars and cafes line the street outside, and there are several more within the market itself, including a wine bar in the central alley.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain. Hop on and enjoy the view from your comfy seat; there's even a Galician Tourist Train pass! This discounted rail pass gives you access to various rail routes created by the Galician Regional Government and based on key elements of the region. Follow the Lighthouse Route along the northern coastline and stop to admire the lighthouses and gorgeous sea views, or hop on and follow one of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Routes to visit the lovely towns and wineries where acclaimed Galician wines are made and enjoyed. Check out the government website to grab your pass and plan your trip!

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Teens

This spacious property offers ample room for a large family, with a secluded garden perfect for kids. The house has two twin bedrooms that would make the perfect children’s room. The private pool will keep them entertained for hours, and it is also fenced for parents’ peace of mind and to make it safer for children. The secluded yet convenient location means all amenities are within walking distance for ease. A cot and high-chair can also be provided.

Located just a short walk from Playa de Broña beach, there are plenty of activities for children to take part in here; snorkeling, waterskiing, surfing/boogie boarding, boating excursions, wwindsurfing and sailing are all available. The woodland surroundings mean that both hiking and cycling can be enjoyed within close proximity of Casa Corunna.

Kids will also love a day trip to Santiago, just over an hour’s drive away. Walking all day around a city can be exhausting for children (and parents too!); the Santiago de Compostela tourist train is a fun way to see the main sights in a short period of time, or to simply take a break and enjoy the views while you get off your feet.

Santiago has a number of well-maintained parks that are great fun for little kids. Nearly every green area houses a kids’ playground, some of which have been designed by leading architects such as this one in The Metropolitan Park near the Zoo. The Mirador Parque da Alameda is a beautiful park with excellent views of Santiago city. Kids can feed the swans, run around a playground or attempt a workout on the public exercise equipment. It’s right next to the old part of town, so you can use it to take a break any time of day (shady trees are plentiful).

The Santiago Zoo will certainly go down a treat with children; lions, tigers, snakes and all kinds of animals are available to view here. You can also take the funicular from the Zoo to the top of Cerro San Cristobal. You can either take it from the bottom of the hill, next to the entrance of the zoo, or half way up the hill from within the Zoo itself. The ride is fun for children and the views of the city from the top of the hill are definitely a sight worth seeing.

  • Great Times Here!

We loved the house and the area. Our contact, Antonio was great. The standard of cleaning was good. A lovely holiday, delicious food, beautiful land and lovely people

  • Great Views

Wonderful view. Close to beach. Great pool. Excellent air conditioning. So many things to see nearby. Antonio helpful

  • Best Villa I Have Ever Rented!

    on 15/08/2020

The Eco House in Tavilo has to be one of the best villas we have ever rented. Its immaculate throuout, and in a beautiful location. Didier and Antonio are perfect hosts, providing lots of local information. The villa is perfectly located forvisiting Santiago and A Coruna, as well as making the scenic drive out along the Atlantic coast to Finisterra. Carnota beach is well worth a visit, and lunch at Casa Boto near Noia is a must.

  • Quiet Oasis

    on 04/10/2019

The house is located out in the country up an interesting 1 track paved road. Very quiet and comfortable. No amenities nearby, but great base for exploring the coast, which is beautiful. Nice, intimate beach is short walk down the hill. House andbeds are comfortable and new. Kitchen is nicely equipped and the market in Noya is Sunday and Thursday. Santiago is 30 minute drive and you can get in and out to see the city, but not be in it.

  • Let the story begin...

    on 06/07/2017

On the edge of a small Gallician village, steeped in history, a short walk to the local beach, a short drive to the hypermarket and surrounded by wonderful scenery, this was one of the best holiday homes that we have stayed in. A 30 minute scenicdrive gets you to spectacular Atlantic white sand deserted beaches with great surf if you want it. The fishing villages on the way are full of cafes' and restaurant's that easily distract you, to say nothing of the old historic buildings. The home itself, is in a spectacular hill side location and looks fantastic. It is we'll kitted out, the air conditioning works well when it is needed and the fully filtered pool is very handy and private. The peace and tranquillity is wonderful, nature is on your door step, with civilisation at a handy arms length away. Galicia is unlike the rest of Spain, it is green, the local seafood is wonderful and the temperature's are not so extreme, but still high 20s and low 30s. We were lucky enough to meet Didier during our visit, his contacts and local knowledge were most useful.
