A contemporary holiday home with four bedrooms and considerable outside space, Villa Guaya lies just 4km from the centre of Calonge on Spain’s Costa Brava. Within easy reach of many of the highlights of Catalonia, this appealing property is suitable for up to eight guests and features its own private pool and garden.
Offering you plenty of privacy, the pool terrace and garden are both attractive and functional. You can enjoy dinner on the covered portion of the terrace, or position your sun lounger poolside for a relaxing day with a book. The house’s upper balcony terrace also offers a great outdoor area. There is easy step access into the 9m x 5m pool, and easy access to it from the indoor living areas.
A large and light open-plan space forms the downstairs living area, with comfortable seating and a flatscreen TV. A glass-topped dining table and chairs are just a few steps away, in an inviting space lined with colourful works of art. The well-equipped kitchen is conveniently close – a sleekly styled room offering a dishwasher, microwave, ceramic hob and an island with breakfast bar-style seating.
An office and a twin bedroom can be found on the lower floor, while the majority of the bedrooms are upstairs. There are two double bedrooms here, one of them en suite with a whirlpool bath, and a bedroom with a pull-out bed for two. Another bathroom is also located on each floor. Garage parking and Wi-Fi are among the other amenities of this impressive villa.
Around 40km from historic Girona, Calonge is located around 20 minutes’ drive from the town of Palafrugell, and beautiful coastal destinations such as the upmarket Llafranc and peaceful Tamariu. Among the local highlights are the colourful botanical gardens of Cap Roig, where an annual music and dance festival is held.
Calonge itself can lay claim to a rugged coastline, a pretty beachfront promenade and the popular Aquadiver water-park. The grounds of its medieval castle play host to a long-established classical music festival each summer.

The area of Catalonia extending north of Barcelona has no shortage of beach resorts and attractive coastal hideaways to uncover. Large towns such as Badalona and Mataró later give way to smaller but much-loved locations like Llafranc and Begur, giving this stretch of the Costa Brava a satisfying level of variety.
What lies inland is also positively rewarding. With a landscape dominated by mountainous regions like Montseny and the Cadiretes, it would be a shame not to take some time away from the beach to enjoy some incredible scenery either on foot or by bike. The latter area extends as far as the coast north of Tossa de Mar, offering the perfect opportunity to combine the two.
One of Catalonia’s most impressive historic cities lies around 35 minutes’ drive north of here – Girona. Whether it’s to view the Arab Baths, the record-breaking wide nave of the Catedral de Santa María or the coloured houses lining the River Onyar, you are assured of an inspiring visit. Girona is also home to Catalonia’s largest urban park, Devesa, a wonderful green oasis in the heart of the city.
For something a little more rugged, the mountains of Montseny are a vast playground for hikers and climbers. Richly diverse in terms of both landscape and climate, this vast natural area is one of the region’s must-sees. To the south, the smaller Parc del Montnegre i el Corredor offers a relaxing outdoor environment that’s well suited to walking.
Along the coast to the east of this area, a number of attractive towns make for appealing excursions, such as Arenys de Mar with its eye-catching historic buildings and pretty harbour. North-west of Barcelona, the city of Terrassa provides an alternative angle on Catalonia. This important industrial city boasts some impressive architecture in the form of the Modernist Masia Freixa and Mercat de la Independència central market. Its National Museum of Science and Technology offers an intriguing overview of more recent developments.

There’s plenty for younger visitors to enjoy at Villa Guaya. With lots of space to play outside, either in or around the pool, they can burn off all the energy they have. Inside, it’s equipped with TV, Wi-Fi and some cool bedrooms. The beach is just 3km away too.
The local area is great for families, with many coastal towns used to catering to visitors. The Aquadiver water-park is one of the favourites in Calonge, with an incredible array of water-slides, rides and restaurants. There’s even more to amuse themselves with at Pp’s Park in nearby Platja d’Aro, where there is also Pitch’n’Putt and a multiplex cinema to name but two.
For a big city experience, why not take them to Girona? Full of history and impressive buildings, it knows how to have fun too. Lovely Devesa Park is a wonderful chill-out spot, while Domeny Park gives them zip-wires, a climbing wall, table tennis and a skateboarding zone, as well as a play area for younger children.
