Ideally located amidst the picture-perfect natural beauty of the French Alps, Chalet Olympe offers the ideal setting from which to enjoy the pristine mountain scenery and world-class ski facilities of Chamonix, with slopes to suit every level of experience and ability. Meanwhile, the traditional alpine town of Chamonix boasts an idyllic river and a charming centre with an array of exceptional restaurants and bars, making it the ideal setting for an après-ski experience like no other, with majestic Mont Blanc providing a dreamlike backdrop.

Encompassing five different ski areas set across four mountains, skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts will find endless opportunities to explore the expansive range of slopes on offer throughout the valley, with easy transfers available across the world-famous resort. Just a few minutes away from Chalet Olympe on foot, guests will find three main ski lifts - Compagnie du Mont Blanc, Le Brévent and La Flégère. Meanwhile, for a sunny afternoon away from the slopes, Chamonix Amusement Park, the Parc de Merlet and the Musée Alpin Chamonix are each within fifteen minutes’ walking distance.

Adventure-seeking visitors to Chamonix will be thrilled to find parasailing and paragliding facilities easily accessible, while the stunning Vallée Blanche - the ideal spot for a variety of snow sports - is only a ten-minute walk away from Chalet Olympe. Offering three distinctive zones and incredible vistas, the area of Les Grands Montets is known for its steep terrain and challenging off-piste skiing. However, there is also a gentler ski area for beginners available here too. Ski areas include the lower terrain around the village of Argentière, the mountain stretching from Lognan to Borchard, as well as steeper alpine terrain that reaches up to 3,275m and includes the jaw-dropping Argentière glacier.

Offering extensive, winding runs as well as steeper, dramatic drops for experienced visitors and seasonaires, the Chamonix resort also provides novice and intermediate skiers with fantastic training slopes. Home to the Kandahar World Cup skiing event, Les Houches is great for beginners, with a welcoming upper plateau that also provides mountain bikers and hikers with rewarding views during warmer months. Meanwhile, cable car rides offer breathtaking ascents to sublime summits, where you can marvel at the peaks of Les Droites and L’Aiguille Verte. Close to the centre of Chamonix, the thrilling Accro’Park offers climbing and ziplining experiences in a sprawling adventure park nestled within the forested area of Les Gaillands.

After another day of adventure in the fresh air, the Chamonix Valley offers a myriad of après-ski options for visitors to enjoy, ranging from cosy mountain inns to lively bars located in the heart of the town centre. For something a little different, indoor activities such as spa treatments and wine tastings make for indulgent and memorable evening experiences.

Wholly deserving of its prestigious reputation, the spectacular Chamonix Valley offers winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers alike a uniquely beautiful setting with an abundance of alpine charm.

Chamonix is not just a winter haven; it's a year-round resort. Les Grands Montets offers stunning scenery, landscapes, and opportunities for exploration on foot or mountain bike. The Chamonix Valley boasts ice-falls, waterfalls, and various paths. Adventurers can take a cable car ride to the summit, enjoying views of L’Aiguille Verte, Les Droites, and Les Drus peaks, or opt for the thrill of a tandem paragliding flight from a 3220m altitude. The snow garden at the top of Grands Montets, crafted and maintained by the piste team, is a must-see.

For those seeking summer thrills, the Accro Adventure Park, with its treetop climbing and the rock-climbing crag in Lac des Gaillands, is not to be missed.

The Resort

Chamonix is often preceded by its own reputation. As one of the most famous ski resorts in the world, it has visitors travelling from all corners of the world to experience the epic runs year after year. The Chamonix town centre, also known as Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, is an endlessly inviting little city with enough going on to entertain skiers and non-skiers alike for weeks on end. For those travelling from the UK, it is fabulously easy to reach. You can drive straight from Calais by motorway and be set up in a gorgeous chalet in less than half a day.

The Chamonix Valley encompasses five main ski areas on four different mountains (with easy transfers in between). You can get yourself a single-resort lift pass or one that encompasses the whole valley. If you go with the latter option you’ll even have access to the Italian side of the valley in Courmayeur. The wider area encompasses 106 pistes at up to 3842m altitude and unparalleled off-piste runs.

Most of Chamonix’s ski areas are best suited to those who already feel at home on a pair of skis. Beginners definitely won’t get as much out of this valley as those who are comfortable tackling a black run. But that’s not saying Chamonix is unromantic by any means. There is incredible scenery for everyone to enjoy, from non-skiers to experts, and nature lovers will fall in love with the Chamonix in summer too. Ski season, however, often lasts until mid-March.

Once the skiing is over at the end of the day you’ll still find plenty to keep you occupied in town. There is an excellent selection of restaurants to choose from, ranging from Michelin starred fine dining to street food that will line your stomach for the après-ski (and rest assured there are dozens of great bars and clubs to choose from!)

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens Ideal for Xmas/NY

Chamonix is an outstanding destination offering many activities for families, both in winter and summer. The ski resort boasts slopes suitable for all levels of skiers, complemented by excellent facilities for children. In addition to the winter wonderland, Chamonix transforms into a summer paradise with an array of exciting activities for kids.

Indoor activities are also available all-year. The sports centre offers ice skating and a swimming pool with a fun zone, including slides, rapids, and massaging jets. For a cultural experience, the Alpine Museum showcases the history of the Chamonix Valley, perfect for budding pioneers eager to learn about the beginnings of mountaineering and the first ascent of Mont Blanc.

If it's time to unwind, the Cinema Vox, Chamonix's multiscreen cinema, provides the latest blockbusters, with many films available in English. Chamonix truly becomes a year-round haven for families, ensuring that every season offers exciting adventures and unforgettable moments.

Winter
For the younger ones who are not yet ready for skiing, Chamonix offers delightful options. Toddlers can experience a taste of downhill excitement on the small slopes behind the tennis court or near the cross-country tracks. Sledging is also a summer delight, with dedicated slopes at Les Planards or the top of Prarion in Les Houches. Many ski hire shops provide sledges for sale or rent.

For an unforgettable experience, consider a husky ride, available every Wednesday (subject to snow conditions). Children from 8 years old can learn to drive their own sledge, while younger ones can enjoy the ride as passengers. Due to its popularity, advance booking is recommended.

Summer
During the summer months, Chamonix continues to cater to children of all ages. Several specialized summer camps and adventure programs are available, providing engaging activities such as rock climbing, hiking, and nature exploration. These programs offer half or full-day options, with childcare services and meals available for added convenience.

Chamonix's Alpine Coaster is a highlight for summer fun. Kids as young as 3 can enjoy the luge along the 1300m track at the Les Planards area. Unaccompanied rides are permitted from 7 years old, making it a thrilling adventure for the young ones.

Summer in Chamonix also offers unique adventures like Paret sledging for children aged 12 and above. Additionally, older kids can embark on a Deluxe Igloo and Fondue Adventure, featuring a 3km sledging track and a snowshoe hike to a real snow igloo for a traditional cheese fondue.

Educational opportunities abound in Chamonix during the summer. Families can explore France's largest glacier by taking the red cog Montenvers train to the historic station at the top. The journey unveils breathtaking views of the Mer de Glace glacier. Don't miss the ice cave carved into the glacier or the glaciorium and crystal gallery.
