Bedrooms are spacious, and minimalist in style but have their own sublime balcony where you can while away the hours gazing at the rolling mountains and turquoise blue ocean waters.

There are two pristine bathrooms on this floor, one with shower and one with bath.

Back on the ground floor, step outside onto the shady terrace where you can enjoy alfresco meals at the table. A neat lawn dotted with comfy furniture invites to to take it easy with a good book.

From here, make your way down some steps to the pool where you can bask in the sun on a lounger, go for a swim in the pool or simply be peaceful with a good book. This is a place where you can feel at home.

Although the villa is ideally placed for those who want tranquillity, it is also conveniently located within walking distance to a supermarket, several authentic restaurants and bars. Villa Aluguer is set in the family-friendly neighbourhood of Santa Cruz, one of the oldest villages in Madeira. It’s a charming place filled with historic architecture, a stunning coastline, several beautiful beaches and a palm-lined promenade dotted with a range of excellent bars and restaurants. From the villa it’s just a 15-minute walk to the centre of town and Praia das Palmeiras beach. Praia das Palmeiras is a pebble beach with children’s swimming pool and playground nearby. It’s a peaceful place for a swim and afterwards you can enjoy fine seafood at the Alameda Beach Club restaurant.

If you prefer to feel the sand between your toes Praia do Machico is just a 10-minute drive further along the road. Here you can swim in the calm water or take out a pedal boat and soak up the mountainous view from the ocean. But for even better views, drive uphill to Pico do Facho where you’ll be rewarded with stunning vistas of Machico, the island of Porto Santo and even Pico Ruivo, Madeira’s highest peak at 1,862 metres.

While Santa Cruz and its coastline offers some great beaches, head north from the villa and discover great hiking trails, known as levadas, and beautiful gardens with carpets of flowers. Golf lovers will also enjoy the pristine 27-hole golf course at Clube Golf Santo da Serra.

Closer to the villa is the Santa Cruz Aquapark. With a variety of rides on offer it’s a great place for all ages to burn energy. Children can spend time whizzing down a water slide, splashing in one of the pools or jumping on a rubber ring and riding the lazy river. After exhausting the rides, be sure to grab a bite to eat from the café then relax in the shade and watch the bird and reptile show.
Guests staying at Villa Aluguer can reach Madeira’s capital of Funchal in 20 minutes by car. Make sure you stop at the city’s cathedral that dates back to the 16 th Century as it is one of Madeira’s main historical landmarks. The choir stalls are impressive and depict saints, prophets and Apostles in 16 th century costume.

Explore the city’s old town, with its beautiful buildings and narrow cobbled streets and be sure to stop at Mercado dos Lavradores, a colourful daily market (except Sunday). Here you can browse the exotic flowers, vegetables, fruit and fish, and if you need a bit of refreshment after all that walking enjoy a glass of Madeira’s exquisite wine at one of the many bars or restaurants along the harbour.

THE REGION

Funchal is the largest city on the island of Madeira and is encapsulated by Pico Ruivo and its neighbouring mountains, which look as if they have been seamlessly carved into the skyline by a Lusitanian God.

There is no better spot to start your holiday than in the Old Town, which illustrates its personality though street art, architecture and busy local businesses. There are many fine eateries, botanical gardens, a cathedral and impressive museums. Perhaps hop on the Madeira Cable Car as one of your first activities, as this will give you a great idea of the islands size.

Many flock Funchal in order to enjoy the Atlantic Coastline. This is home to its prominent harbour, where hundreds of boats and yachts, some of which enable visitors to embark on a magical sea voyage, can be found. Funchal really is a destination for lovers of the sea; as there are renowned surfing points, as well as being a great place to spot some whales.

Madeirans are also notorious for their elaborate festivals. If you’re travelling during the New Year, you will be treated to one of the world’s biggest Firework Festivals…a dazzling sight! During late February & early Mrach, you are able to witness Carnival and the streets of Funchal are lit with parades and festivities. If that’s not enough for you; the Atlantic Festival International Fireworks Competition, Wine Festival and Christmas are all noteworthy dates for anyone visiting Funchal.

There are some incredible villas on the island and we believe that we have done a great job finding them for you. Have a browse and let us know what you think.

ABOUT MADEIRA

The island of Madeira can be found south west of mainland Portugal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the island’s location, its is considered to have a Mediterranean climate that serves locals and visitors all year round – making it an ideal escape from reality at any point in the year.

What we love Madeira for is its seemingly ongoing festivals! Madeirans have found an excuse to celebrate most things; including film, their natural surroundings and key patron saints. This means that planning a visit during these days and even weeks of commemoration is well worth it (scroll down to see some key dates).

Madeira is divided into several municipals, each with a special offering to those who visit this island. Our favourite two communities are Funchal and Calheta and these are where you will find most of our beautiful villas.

Madeira’s landscape extends much more than a striking coastline. Make sure you pack some hiking boots and venture inland during your stay. With mountainous trails along Vereda do Arieiro, or more countryside appropriate paths like Levada do Risco and waterfall chasing treks like Levada do Caldeirao Verde – this archipelago has everything a keen outdoors person requires.

For those who enjoy either playing or watching sports, you’ll be happy to know Madeira offers so much selection. Madeira is also home to three notable football clubs, so if you’re visiting during the football season and want to see a good quality of football, you have every chance to. Porto Santo Golfe is the island’s renowned golf course. With an 18-hole course (Par 72) overlooking a Galapagos-like backdrop, golf enthusiasts will certainly want a ‘slice’ of the action! Surfers can access some great beaches like Jardim do Mar, Ponta Pequena, Paul do Mar, and Fajã da Ovelha in order to find some swell. Or, if you’re simply looking to recline on a sun lounger and soak up some rays, whilst listening to crystal clear waves break as they hit the shores, you will find plenty of man-made beaches & Lidos created for your leisure!

With a superb climate, close proximity to the coastline, wonderful cuisine, charming locals and astonishing scenery – this is a fabulous holiday choice for families & friends.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Madeira, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Villa Aluguer is a wonderful base for a family holiday, with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. Older children will love having their own bedroom and balcony access while younger children will enjoy sharing the twin bed room. Outside they can play on the lawn, eat alfresco at the terrace table and spend hours splashing in the swimming pool. There’s also a comfortable lounge sofa where they can kick back with a film or surf the Internet.

Grab the suncream, pack a picnic and stroll down to Praia das Palmeiras for a day at the beach. This pebble beach is great for all ages with its clear waters but if you don’t want to splash in the ocean there’s also a children’s swimming pool and playground to be enjoyed. Another beach worth visiting is Praia do Machico. A sandy beach with clam waters it’s perfect for children of all ages and offers a variety of activities including kayaking, snorkelling and sailing.

Just 10 minutes from the beach in Machico is the whale museum in Canical. The museum (Museu da Baleia) illustrates Madeira’s whaling history and children will love the life-like whale models, gruesome harpoons, 3D films and various interactive exhibits. There’s even a replica submarine that children can climb into. But to see real whales (and dolphins) head to Funchal harbour. Here you’ll find plenty of boats offering guests a chance to get up close to these majestic sea creatures.
