Villa Ponta is a stellar home on the island of Madeira that was created from an old villa. The restoration process has produced a beautiful home that sits amongst the island’s famous greenery.

The splendid home is beautifully designed and the living has a regal feel with décor and furniture in various shades of brown. The room sees cosy chairs surround a warm and comforting fireplace where guests can completely relax and unwind. Every ornament and artwork placed inside this room has been carefully thought out and effortlessly complements the furniture.

A spacious hallway leads into the kitchen which opens directly onto the front terrace. Breakfasts and morning coffees can easily be enjoyed on the terrace while taking in the epic views. The kitchen holds a quaint seating area emblazoned with bright house flowers and plenty of counter space to prepare food on.

Upstairs, guests will find all three of the bedrooms. The master suite benefits from an en-suite bathroom, offering ample privacy, and the remaining two bedrooms possess French windows that open out onto a large balcony furnished with sun loungers. You will be delighted by the views from this spot, especially at sunrise and sunset. Wherever you end up sleeping, you’ll have a marvellous stay and a brilliant night’s sleep.

The homes large gardens see an actual working typical Madeira Levada or irrigation channel run through them and boast well-kept lawns dotted with flowers and trees. The freeform swimming pool is one of the homes most excellent features and is a fantastic way for you to spend your day. The garden’s veranda has comfy wicker chairs and a dining table where you can eat dinner under the stars and amongst the glistening lights of the island.

The Small House is a charming little venue situated in the town of Ponta do Sol which is 5-minutes away by car. The quaint restaurant & bar serves a large selection of alcohol from all over the world which can be enjoyed with delicious cheese and meat boards. Madeira’s traditional drink, Poncha is particularly excellent here and a hit with all those who try it.

Villa Ponta is only a 25-minute drive away from the lively capital, Funchal. Here, you can board one of the city’s famous cable cars and take in the epic birds-eye view of Funchal and the entire island of Madeira. One of the oldest municipalities in Madeira, Ponta do Sol is one of the most attractive and character-full towns on the island, with small streets and lanes that have been carefully preserved along with the delightful town houses. Some of these have been transferred into small hotels, bars and restaurants.

As you board the car and slowly levitate above the city, you will see Funchal’s ample greenery and flowers as well as locals going about their daily business. Funchal is where the countryside meets the city and this is all evident from such a high sky-scraping location. The car ride will come down and end in the town of Monte where you can pay a visit to The Municipal Garden which covers a lot of the town. The garden’s vivid flowers, range exotic plants (100,000 to be exact) and towering trees all make for an enchanting experience.

The parish of Monte holds a beautiful 18th Century church that presents a great space to absorb and admire history in. Most notably, the tomb of Carlos de Habsburg is located in the church’s left side chapel. He was the last emperor of Austria.

THE REGION

Calheta, meaning ‘Small Cove’, is where many tourists flock to in order to indulge in beautiful man-made beaches and striking scenery.

This part of Madeira is formed of several municipalities, each with something unique and special to offer. Calheta Village is an ideal place to start especially if you enjoy a stiff drink! An old sugar cane factory still produces one of the world’s most respected white rums – Aguardente…perhaps you want to leave this part of your holiday till late in the evening!

Jardim do Mar is where you will find many of the locals on dawn patrol, taking to the waves and surfing. The waters can both be heavy and flat, making them ideal for abilities of surfer. Akaw!

For lovers of seafood, you should look no further than Paul do Mar. This is a village where most of the fisherman work out of, so you know you’ll be able to find the catch of the day here.

For those who have travelled to Madeira for its inland beauty, then look no further than Arco da Calheta and Prazeres. Within these locations you won’t only be able find some stunning hiking trails, but you’re also likely to stumble across some traditionally styled Parishes and unforgettable views.

ABOUT MADEIRA

The island of Madeira can be found south west of mainland Portugal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the island’s location, its is considered to have a Mediterranean climate that serves locals and visitors all year round – making it an ideal escape from reality at any point in the year.

What we love Madeira for is its seemingly ongoing festivals! Madeirans have found an excuse to celebrate most things; including film, their natural surroundings and key patron saints. This means that planning a visit during these days and even weeks of commemoration is well worth it (scroll down to see some key dates).

Madeira is divided into several municipals, each with a special offering to those who visit this island. Our favourite two communities are Funchal and Calheta and these are where you will find most of our beautiful villas.

Madeira’s landscape extends much more than a striking coastline. Make sure you pack some hiking boots and venture inland during your stay. With mountainous trails along Vereda do Arieiro, or more countryside appropriate paths like Levada do Risco and waterfall chasing treks like Levada do Caldeirao Verde – this archipelago has everything a keen outdoors person requires.

For those who enjoy either playing or watching sports, you’ll be happy to know Madeira offers so much selection. Madeira is also home to three notable football clubs, so if you’re visiting during the football season and want to see a good quality of football, you have every chance to. Porto Santo Golfe is the island’s renowned golf course. With an 18-hole course (Par 72) overlooking a Galapagos-like backdrop, golf enthusiasts will certainly want a ‘slice’ of the action! Surfers can access some great beaches like Jardim do Mar, Ponta Pequena, Paul do Mar, and Fajã da Ovelha in order to find some swell. Or, if you’re simply looking to recline on a sun lounger and soak up some rays, whilst listening to crystal clear waves break as they hit the shores, you will find plenty of man-made beaches & Lidos created for your leisure!

With a superb climate, close proximity to the coastline, wonderful cuisine, charming locals and astonishing scenery – this is a fabulous holiday choice for families & friends.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Madeira, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

In Funchal, kids will adore the ‘Painted Doors Project’ which is situated in the old town. The project is an art installation that sees painted doors decorated in a variety of striking artworks.

Kids will have fun choosing their favourite door and even more fun striking a pose in front of it. The area is now somewhat of a permanent art gallery beautifully enhanced by an array of expressive and dynamic artworks.

Reviews

  • Lovely villa with fantastic views

    on 09/08/2019

Lovely villa with fantastic views. Perfect base to explore the paradise of Madeira.

  • Stunning views

    on 20/05/2019

We very much enjoyed our stay, it was a very peaceful and relaxing place with stunning views. The villa was beautiful and clean. The only point we would recommend is to hire a car as the supermarket is at the bottom of the hill and the public transport isn't easy to work out.

  • Beautiful home, great antiques, lovely grounds

    on 12/05/2019

The house is beautifully cared for and well equipped. The information book left by the owner was very complete and quite helpful. We enjoyed the porch at all times of the day and found the location perfect for exploring levadas on all parts of the island.

  • Exceeded expectations

    on 03/04/2019

Property is one of the best we have stayed in. Like every property it has its minor niggles and annoyances however go beyond that and you find a wonderful holiday home. The kitchen is well equipped, albeit a knife sharpener would be a welcome addition. The bedrooms are airy and spacious and the bathrooms are both excellent. The lounge we didn't really use as we liked the kitchen/dining area or either of the two terraces. The property is south facing. In the morning the sun is on your left allowing early sun bathing or, in the afternoon, the sun is to the right to do more. The swimming pool is neither very big nor very deep but it is lovely to simply slip into to cool off. When fitting the pool cover in the evening, ensure the winding wheel is to the house side of the pool and it is placed across from the semi-circular steps. The house is really easy to find.... Once you know where it is! From Funchall airport as you arrive into Ponta do Sol there is a roundabout with a BP garage on the left. Take the 3rd exit up a hill and over three or four speed bumps with chequer board markings to a roundabout where, again, you take the 3rd exit up another hill. A garage with a green door will come to you on the left. Slow down and prepare to pull onto a short concrete driveway around a right hand corner and just before a zebra crossing. If you go over the crossing, you've gone too far. The name Girassola is on a plaque on a wall to the right hand side of a green metal sliding door. There is no doubt we will do this again in the same quinta. Thank you.

  • Stunning Setting

    on 11/02/2019

Despite the pictures we were unprepared for the stunning setting and superb property. We needed nothing more for our perfect winter sun holiday. The position is excellent for a Madeiran experience. Close to all amenities but not too close. (We hired a car for the duration and explored the island. The car parking arrangement is a bit of an "adventure" until you get used to it) The walk up from Ponta do Sol is not for the faint hearted but Nelson Lala provides an excellent taxi service 24 hours a day. The infinity pool was great, yes even in February! The house was well equipped for us to cook if we wanted with inside and outside seating options but there is plenty of choice locally to dine out.

  • Great views and so comfortable

    on 29/06/2018

This is a well equipped, clean and comfortable home. We loved the week we spent here. It is closed to towns, restaurants and shopping. We enjoyed dinners on the porch and many of the local restaurants. It's central location makes it easy to explore the island. I would definately rent here again.

  • A lovely secluded villa with a great view.

    on 07/03/2017

Villa Ponta is a very attractive villa set high up, with a beautiful view of the garden and pool, and the ocean beyond. We had a very relaxing holiday there. We hired a car to travel around the island, as the villa is quite secluded.
