It's safe to say that the Pacific Coast is the lesser-known of Mexico’s two coasts but that doesn't mean it's any less wonderful. The Pacific Coast is where Mexico beach tourism really began - visits from Hollywood stars Ava Gardner and Richard Burton helped to put the area firmly on the map.
The coastline is home to 800km of sugar-white beaches, Banderas Bay is one of the most popular areas, being home to the larger resorts of Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta, where a wide variety of family-friendly attractions can be found. North of Puerto Vallarta is the blissful resort of Punta Mita, a celebrity-favourite. This is the ultimate destination for those in search of a luxury break.
- The Pacific Coast boasts a truly picturesque coastline, with expansive golden beaches and hidden coves. Take a boat trip to the idyllic Marietas Islands and be sure to take your snorkelling gear!
- Whether you are staying in upmarket Punta Mita, lively Puerto Vallarta with its charming Zona Romantica bursting with courtyard cafes and contemporary galleries, or the laidback surfing town of Sayulita – there is something for everyone.
- Between December and March, Bahia de Banderas makes a fabulous venue for a spot of whale watching. Humpback whales reach 14m in length and so while they can be spotted from the shore we recommend taking a boat tour to get a closer look!
