Nestled on the edge of the Torre Salsa nature reserve, not far from Agrigento on Sicily's southwestern shore, Villa Salsa enjoys a scenic location with excellent views.
With stunning countryside and the coast just a few minutes away by car, you can easily discover the varied landscapes in this area of Sicily without needing to go far.
Situated entirely on the ground floor with an interior that combines modern style with traditional touches, Villa Salsa has plenty of comfort and charm. The open-plan living space has a relaxing area for watching TV as dinner is cooked in the kitchen just around the corner. The master bedroom benefits from an en-suite bathroom featuring a walk-in shower, and all three bedrooms have direct access to the sun-flooded terrace. Open the glass doors for an al fresco meal on the veranda overlooking the pool while catching a glimpse of the glistening blue sea in the distance.
A great feature of the property is the expansive outdoor space, featuring a spacious pool with Roman steps to make the entry to the water a breeze. Bring your inflatables or relax on the sun loungers with a magazine to work on your holiday tan. Dining al fresco can be accommodated in the shaded gazebo next to the pool as the sun begins to set over the sea after you’ve prepared fresh fish and vegetables on the grill outdoors. The abundance of comfy seating spaces means gathering with your family or friends over glasses of wine is practically effortless.
The nearest beach, Spiaggia di Bovo Marina, can be found less than a 10-minute walk away via a gentle path, allowing you to go swimming, snorkelling and tanning in the sunshine whenever you feel like it. The wild stretches of Riserva Naturale Orientata Foce del Fiume Platani are also a short drive away. Hike, cycle and swim in these gorgeous spots while soaking up sweeping views over the sea and wooded hillsides.
The closest town, Montallegro, is only a 10-minute drive away and has local amenities and plenty of walking opportunities that will make your stay feel more idyllic. Stroll around the quaint streets lined with houses and expect to be greeted by friendly locals playing chess and sipping coffee on their iron-wrought balconies.
When you want to explore further afield, head to the medieval Ribera with a wonderful historical atmosphere, with admirable buildings such as Chiesa Made and Piazza Duomo. This area is known for its rich soil that aids the growing of vegetables, almonds, olives and varieties of grapes, which all contribute to the town’s excellent dining scene.
Agrigento, a hilltop city just over a 30-minute drive away, is known for its ruins of the ancient Akragas in the Valley of the Temples - a vast archaeological site with well-preserved Greek temples.
Sicily’s capital city Palermo is less than a 2-hour drive away, so guests can visit historical landmarks such as the magnificent neoclassical Teatro Massimo, baroque-meets-rococo interiors and vaulted frescoes of Chiesa di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria and the Royal Palace of Palermo, Palazzo Reale. The city’s streets act like a timeline through its erratic past, and although they’re filled with ancient buildings, there are also modern bars, chic restaurants and stylish boutiques waiting to be discovered.

About the surrounding area of Villa SalsaThe southern coast where Villa Salsa is located belongs to Sicily's quieter areas, away from the hustle and bustle of the two large cities, Palermo and Catania.
Your holiday home is just a stone’s throw away from magnificent nature reserves and uninterrupted beaches, making it an ideal base to be immersed in Sicily’s extraordinary natural surroundings.
The Riserva Naturale Orientata Foce del Fiume Platani is only a 20-minute drive away and is excellent for a stroll through its forest, passing a small river and finishing at a gently secluded sandy beach with crystal-clear water. When driving in the opposite direction, you’ll find Riserva Naturale Orientata Torre Salsa – dominated by chalk cliffs, sometimes covered by a layer of clay, as well as herbaceous and bushy vegetation which allows access to a splendid beach from narrow paths between the rocks. Here you can also visit Torre Salsa, an ancient watchtower in the heart of this natural oasis and admire the stunning landscape.
The closest restaurant and bar is less than a 10-minute walk towards the beach, while more restaurants can be found in Montallegro (which translates to ‘Happy Mountain’), a typical Sicilian town with amenities such as a supermarket, tourist centres and charming bakeries. Also, consider visiting Monte Suso – a trekking area with ancient remains and town views. The Bosco San Nicola and Ingresso Bosco San Nicola are both fantastic walking trails with views of fields, lawns and Mediterranean greenery.
In Sicily, keen hikers and nature lovers shouldn’t miss visiting Europe’s most active volcano, Mount Etna. There are plenty of guided walks and hiking trails to choose from. Monte Nero Degli Zappini snakes through dark lava fields, lava flow caves and wooded formations before reaching the Botanical Garden New Gussonea. The Schiena dell’ Assino is one of the more accessible paths, taking you through a thick pine forest with rocky soil. If you want to enjoy spectacular views of the Ionian Sea without hiking, you can take the cable car up to an altitude of 2500 metres.
In only 1 hour 30 minutes, you can reach Marsala – a coastal town known for its ancient ruins, fortified marsala wine and another nature reserve Stagnone Nature Reserve with salt pans and species of migratory birds. Although small, you can find history and culture here in museums and galleries, such as the Flemish Tapestry Museum featuring well-preserved 16th-century pieces alongside a bustling restaurant scene.
If you’re looking for even more hustle and bustle, get your fill of city and sand in Palermo, located less than a 2-hour drive away. Sicily’s capital is an excellent option for a day trip. The 12th-century Palermo Cathedral houses royal tombs, while the royal palace Palazzo dei Normanni used to be the seat of the King of Sicily and is open to visitors. You can also stroll through the city’s winding streets and admire architecture along the way, shop at markets such as the central Ballarò street market and the Vucciria before ending your day with an aperitif in one of the historic centre’s superb restaurants.
