Book Now & Grow Green: 3 Trees Planted with Every Booking!

This Earth Day, join our mission to plant 3 trees for every booking made between April 22nd - 28th, 2024. Let's make a sustainable impact together! Learn more about our journey here >>

The beautiful Villa Cielo Blu is located in Salina, a volcanic island just 50 miles north off the coast of Sicily. This stunning archipelago where Salina is located is formed of seven islands, including Alicudi, Filicudi, Vulcano, Lipari, Panarea and Stromboli, each with a different look, feel and distinct characteristics that set them apart. The idyllic holiday home is set in a rural area, in a region known for its culinary delights such as Veltliner wine and capers. It is surrounded by rich flora, with spectacular ocean views.

Split between two adjacent annexes, the interiors are delightfully rural, with exposed ceiling beams, wooden furniture handmade on the island, wrought ironworks and blue artisanal tiles. The bedrooms are comfortably designed with double beds and shelves carved out into the white stone – a feature you can see throughout the entire property. Keen cooks will enjoy the fully equipped, farmhouse-style kitchen with a gas hob and a collection of spices, most found in the surrounding countryside by the owners. Those not involved in the food prep can keep the chef company by kicking back on one of the comfy seats.

Guests will love spending most of their time on one of the shaded verandas, offering a front-row seat to intriguing vistas of volcanic mountains and the azure sea glistening in the distance. At the front of the house, you can relax in a rattan chair or one of the hammocks. A large old olive tree is the courtyard's centrepiece, and an open fireplace can serve as a grill for preparing meat and fish for your al-fresco soirées. Alternatively, relax on the comfortable seating and sun loungers and unwind in privacy if you want to work on your tan.

When the Sicilian heat becomes too much to handle, head to the bay to cool down in the refreshing Tyrrhenian sea. The charming Pollara bay offers uninterrupted natural scenery and excellent spots for snorkelling and swimming. There’s also many hiking opportunities in the area, taking outdoor lovers through volcanic landscapes with rewarding views at the top.

Worth visiting are also the nearby fishing villages of Malfa, Salina and Rinella, while Leni is perfect for a quick lunch break thanks to its number of bars and restaurants.

Located along the slopes of Monte Fossa delle Feci – an ancient, massive dormant crater – less than a 30-minute drive away, Santa Marina is a town great for a day trip and is favoured for its array of restaurants and atmospheric cafés, as well as a series of interweaving streets filled with souvenir shops. Home to two marinas, it allows visitors to hop on ferries and boats and visit the rest of the Aeolian Islands or mainland Sicily.

*Please note that whilst Villa Cielo Blu is near Eastern Sicily it is actually located in Salina in the centre of the Aeolian Islands. The island can be reached from Sicily by ferry from Milazzo.

The house is set in the foothills of the mountains and immersed in nature, with only a couple of other holiday homes around. Smelling of wild fennel and fresh sea breeze, the Aeolian island used to be deserted some 60 years ago. Now it’s a fantastic place to enjoy Sicily’s splendid weather and alluring landscape without the crowds.

Although you’re in the heart of Pollara, a small bay set in the middle of an ancient volcano, the area is pretty secluded and known mainly for its pretty walking and hiking paths. Above the beach, Area Balneare di Pollara offers breathtaking views of the sea, neighbouring islands, and steep rocky cliffs. Keen walkers can take paths through the volcanic landscape to the mountain of Fossa delle Felci – a nature reserve offering a breathtaking view of the peninsula, and you can even see Mount Etna from here. Another must-visit lookout point is Punto Panoramico di Pollara. Alternatively, go snorkelling around the rocky cliffs – chances are you’ll spot plenty of colourful fish!

*Please note that whilst Villa Cielo Blu is near Eastern Sicily it is actually located in Salina in the centre of the Aeolian Islands. The island can be reached from Sicily by ferry from Milazzo.

In less than 20 minutes by car, you can reach Praiola, a cliffside hiking area with sweeping coastal views and scenes. If you’re feeling energetic, you can walk up to Monte dei Porri – separated from Monte Fossa delle Felci, the largest mountain in Salina – and its observation deck. On the way here, you’ll fully immerse in the island’s alluring fauna and flora while also getting your steps in.

The closest village with amenities, Malfa, can be reached in only 15 minutes by car if you’re after a change of scenery or need to stock up on ingredients in a supermarket. Here you can also find a bakery, café and a few restaurants serving traditional Sicilian cuisine. The nearby Spiaggia dello Scario beach is convenient if you need to cool down on a hot day. At the same time, the Museo Eoliano Dell ‘Emigrazione’ offers a peek into Salina and the Aeolian Islands’ history.

Santa Marina is worth visiting for its ancient history, especially its impressive archaeological findings dating back to the Greek and Roman domination. Admire its 18th-century Mother Church with distinctive bell towers or take a tour through one of the notable museums such as the Ethno anthropological Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the Wine Museum.

If you’re planning a boat trip around the islands, stop close to the cliffs near Casa di Neruda from the film “Il Postino” – a natural arch with turquoise water all around and views of Stromboli in the distance.

Spiaggia dello Scario is a pebbly beach located only a 15-minute drive away and features a small beach bar. Lingua, 16km away, has plenty to do for children, such as walking around the impressive Oasi naturale - Pantano di Salina – a small nature reserve with Mediterranean shrubs, plants and bird species. After a stroll, recharge your batteries in one of the village’s traditional Italian trattorias before heading to the beach to relax.

Alternatively, you can escape the heat by visiting the archaeological museum Museo Archeologico di Salina and Museo del Mare e del sale, with exhibitions about the maritime tradition of the island.

In most villages by the coast, you can organise boat trips and excursions to the other Aeolian Islands and see dolphins, turtles and colourful fish along the way.
