Overview
Trullo Margarita is perfectly situated for exploring Puglia’s beaches, walking routes and charming hilltop towns. Set within farmland near to wineries and olive groves and within walking distance of a village, the historic home is a wonderful place to stay for a holiday in the south of Italy.
The villa is a centuries-old home which has been restored and renovated to offer guests modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi, a well-equipped kitchen and TVs. Original features such as the exposed stone work and vaulted ceilings which fill the house with character have been preserved by the owners. The accommodation is spread between two typically Puglian buildings; a lamia which houses the open-plan living and dining space, the fully-fitted kitchen and two spacious bedrooms. Just across the beautiful, flower-filled patio you can find the smaller dwelling, the trullo which is a cone-shaped building with a large bedroom and a bathroom. Six guests can sleep in comfort over these two dwellings and come together in the living spaces for drinks in the evening.
The garden here is a true oasis where guests can gather by the private pool on the sun loungers or dine in the shade on the pretty, internal courtyard. The vast garden is filled with little seating areas and lush native planting and in enveloped by olive groves. Trullo Margarita is set amidst Puglian countryside, surrounded by serene farmland. However, when you wish to pick up some milk and fresh bread, you will find the closest amenities just a stone’s throw away from the home, meaning the location offers peace and quiet but not isolation. In the village only 800m away you can visit a selection of shops including a patisserie and a number of restaurants. For a wider range of eateries, artisan shops and historic attractions you should head over to the charming medieval village of Cisternino which is just 6km away from the villa and a lovely place to spend the afternoon.
The villa is also just 18km away from the nearest sandy beach which is called Villanova Beach and offers an extensive range of water sports as well as plenty of space to unwind in the sun. There are many more beaches along the breath-taking Adriatic and Savelletri coastlines, whether you would like swim into caves along a wild shoreline or sip a cocktail at a chic beach club, you are sure to find a fantastic beach in easy reach of the house.
What you should know…
- One of the bedrooms is located within a separate building in the grounds and is an open-plan space with the sitting area. This pretty trullo would suit a couple or grandparents who may enjoy the privacy slightly away from the main party.
- Though the buildings are not air conditioned, it is kept naturally cool due to the stone used in the traditional buildings.
- There is a village within walking distance but we recommend bringing a car in order to explore Puglia’s many amazing beaches, towns and historic villages. Guests can park in the gated grounds.

Location
About the surrounding area of Trullo MargaritaWhile staying at this historic trullo set in rolling farmland, guests can get to know the true heart of Puglia. Here you are able to spend lazy days around the pool, popping to the local village for dinner in the evening, while on other days you can head out early to explore Puglia’s beautiful coastline and historic villages.
With a lovely climate and a wealth of open spaces surrounding the villa, you are well-placed for spending plenty of time out in nature. Near to the home you can enjoy walks, go horse riding, play golf at Savelletri’s brilliant golf courses which are 26km away or spend the day at the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve which is 18km away and offers a rugged coastline and vast sand dunes.
Aside from the stunning rural landscape, Trullo Margarita is close to a number of villages and towns where you can shop and go out for dinner. The closest village Casalini is within walking distance and is a handy place for picking up groceries or fresh pastries from the patisserie. Cisternino is also nearby at just 6km away; this is a small, yet character-filled village where time seems to have stood still for centuries. While strolling around the shaded streets of dazzling white homes, you will be able to see a 13th century Norman-Swabian tower and the Baroque Church of San Cataldo to name just a few of the impressive buildings. One of the main attractions of Cisternino however are the panoramic views over the Val D’Itria below, which are best enjoyed as you sit al-fresco dining on the local delicacy which is meat barbecued by the butcher. If you are visiting in September, you will be able to join in with the fun and festivities which take place surrounding the grape harvest!
If you would like to visit the famous trulli-filled town of Alberobello then this is the perfect place for a day trip as the town is 24km away from the house. In Alberobello you can take a walking tour of the town or explore by yourself. A great place to see how people used to live in these pretty, whitewashed agricultural buildings, is to pay a visit to Trullo Sovrano which houses a living-history museum and reconstructed 18th-century rooms. Alberobello is a UNESCO World Heritage Site so is packed with protected buildings and ancient churches. There are also parks and gardens here where you can rest in the shade of a tree with a well-earned gelato.
As well as delightful towns and open-countryside, this part of Puglia boasts some wonderful beaches. There are lots of beaches to choose from, whether you prefer tiny rugged coves or sweeping sandy bays. The closest beach is Villanova Beach which is a long, sandy beach where you can try out an array or water sports or book a surfing lesson at the surf school. If you are happy to drive a little further for a day trip, then a brilliant place to visit is the bustling seaside town of Polignano a Mare which is 44km away. Here you can find some of the area’s most beautiful beaches as well as great restaurants and the maze-like old town.
