Tenuta I Pagliari is a stunning, luminescent, architecturally prestigious home, just south of Taranto, close to some of Puglia’s most beautiful beaches and azure waters.

Tenuta I Pagliari was designed by the internationally renowned architect, Giuseppe Militia, whose works can be seen from the glittering coast around Cannes to New York’s Madison Avenue.

This home is infused with beautiful natural daylight at every angle; the angular construct enables the indoors and outdoors to blend seamlessly.

The villa and its annexe sleep up to ten people across five double bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. Combining old and new, the villa retains original stone foundations and the central area which dates back to the eighteenth century when the building was still a traditional pagliara Salentina: a stone shelter with a thatched roof that was used by local peasants and their animals.

Remaining both sympathetic to the original home and structure, while breathing new life into the villa, the result is a spectacular glass fronted home - entirely in keeping with the local surroundings and elements of nature.

The outdoor spaces at this home are sublime: secluded, tranquil and offering the utmost in privacy, guests will enter their world of impeccable taste and glamour - understated luxury and old-school charm and style!

Aesthetes and designers will breathe it all in - the linear design of the pool is framed with an abundance of day beds and loungers, with a gazebo style covered dining/ lounge area overlooking the rolling country views.

Like a mini Ibiza, but without the glitz, this home is finished with panache and verve. The surrounded woodland and ancient stone walls soften the contemporary, clean lines: the modern and the original blend charmingly.

The lawns and gardens are immaculately maintained, naturally compartmentalised into lawn space, beautifully luscious trees and the cool shade they provide, flowering blossom and fragrant plants.

The pièce de resistance is perhaps the massage/ treatment hut: a beautiful timber and glass structure which is warm, welcoming and cosy offering an ideal setting for some pampering and relaxation.

With a semi Moroccan feel, there is even a stunning canvas covered outdoor party zone, or al fresco dining spot: tranquil with the rustling breeze and wicker garden furniture, this space is ideal for evening antipasti and wines, or fresh coffee and pastries in the morning after a refreshing swim.

The interiors are just breathtaking: spacious, light and achingly chic, they are effortlessly tasteful, rather than being over-designed. The bedrooms offer a real haven away from the bustle of the crowds: finished with a soft neutral palette of fawns and creams and beiges, with accents of turquoise and crisp whites; the four-poster beds are so luxuriant, with fresh quality cotton bed linen, elegant day beds and breakfast tables.

The sleek and fresh design abounds throughout the villa, with many quirky and characterful touches - postmodernist graffiti art alongside ancient, original stone; solid timber antique furniture alongside zingy pops of citrus and lime tones - this home is full of character, with a playful edge as well as impeccable attention to detail.

With subtle washes of light, the beautiful original arches create such a restful and comforting space; the interiors at Tenuti I Pagliari manage to blend some punchy design choices within the most discreet and natural context - there is a beautiful “flow” throughout this home, surprising touches, a playful edge, but impeccable and flawless design at every turn.

From the stunning original stone sink, to the sleek and contemporary walls of glass, steely greys and exposed brick - the the splashes of pillar box red and dazzling orange, this villa is both unique and peerless, creating such a relaxed and low essential family holiday environment - both “home-like” yet with no compromise on quality.

There is nothing formulaic about this home; it is full of personality and charisma; from the intimate little nook for romantic breakfasts on the balcony to the striking monochrome open plan kitchen-dining room. The living spaces are naturally sub-divided, yet also all part of one area, with the recurrent feature being light and glass - thematic throughout this unique and striking home!

For a stylish, yet relaxed, ever so sensual environment for a holiday which encompasses all the incredible history, natural elements, cultural heritage of the region, in exact harmony with the ancient and the new, look no further!

Puglia, the “heel” of Italy, is a family-friendly destination; whether it be hilltop or coastal towns, long sandy beaches with clear waters and the beautiful coastline, as well as the sumptuous rustic local cuisine, children will be welcome!

Southern Italians are very family-minded, and highchairs and children’s cutlery will be provided in most restaurants, while the piazzas in the evening are full of youngsters roaming and playing together while their parents watch on from courtyard al fresco restaurants.

Amongst our pick of the beaches for families would be the four-kilometre stretch of Torre Lapillo, an arc between two 16th century watchtowers; the shallow incline of the bay is ideal for smaller children.

On the southernmost “stiletto” point of the heel Pescoluse is nestled - known as the Maldives of Italy. The wild pine tree backed Baia Dei Tuchi is another favourite spot for children. Hiring parasols and sun loungers are simple, and the beachside cafes offer beautiful fresh, pressed juices and gelato.

For slightly older children, there is ample opportunity for water sports, boat trips and diving. A particularly attractive spot would be the Grotta della Poesia, for those seeking an adrenaline thrill by rock jumping into the turquoise sea pool from the natural bridge.

For days out, just a short trip from Bari, families can take advantage of the zoo safari, Fasanolandia. Children will be thrilled to be so close to big cats roaming free, with giraffes bending down to peer into the car windows and monkeys jumping on the bonnet.

For scuba diving and snorkelling, there are multiple water sports centres, including Scuba Diving di Levanto Stefano and Orca Diving. Underwater exploration is so accessible in the calm, warm seas of southern Italy.

Alberello is an enchanting day trip for children to discover the local culture, namely the curious cone-shaped houses named Trulli, particular to the region. Children will be fascinated by these fairytale-like homes, like something out of Snow White, and the myriad of souvenir shops will also prove fruitful.

When a little seclusion is required, back at the villa, the magical lawns, gardens and pool will provide hours of fun and exploration.
