See the sea from a country-style cottage, when you vacation in Villa Morel, on the south coast of the Greek island of Zakynthos, in the azure waters of the Ionian Sea. This two-storey, detached villa has three spacious double bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to seven guests, ideal for a family holiday, or a friends’ get-together. Villa Honey is constructed out of traditional Zakynthian local stone, with wrought iron, sea-view balconies, shuttered windows, and double doors that open to let in lots of natural light, and cooling sea breezes.
This charming property comes complete with private parking for two cars, and air conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout. The villa is set in its own verdant surrounding grounds and gardens, with a centrepiece heated swimming pool, and lush green lawns. The interiors have a real holiday home-from-home vibe, furnished in a classic style, using lots of natural wood, beamed ceilings, and a warm colour palette of shades of browns and beiges, with jewel colour highlights.
Access the property via a country lane, through the wooden gate, and enter Villa Morel. to find a light and airy, high-vaulted, wood-beamed ceiling, open-plan living space, with double doors that give access onto the pool terrace. The seating area has two comfy toffee-coloured sofas, one of which can be made into a sofa bed for one guest, there are coffee and side tables, a flat-screen satellite television, and an open fireplace for those cooler months and evenings. The adjacent teak wood kitchen is fully equipped with all the appliances and gadgets you will need to cater for your holiday, including that must-have morning coffee maker. A six-seater wooden dining set is ideal for some informal indoor dining.
On the ground floor, there is the first of the three bedrooms, a bright and breezy room, furnished with a wrought iron double bed, bedside tables, fitted wardrobes, and a sea-view balcony. A bathroom with a bathtub and overhead shower, a hand basin, WC, and washing machine, completes this floor’s accommodation. Take the stairs to the first floor, where there are two bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with twin beds, and both with sea view balconies, and a shared family bathroom, with a bathtub and overhead shower.
The sea view, surrounding grounds and gardens, with a natural stone paved terrace, are a winner. A ladder entry and private heated swimming pool takes centre stage, surrounded by strategically positioned white sun loungers, with shady parasols, perfect for relaxing under the Grecian sun. A rattan soft seating spot is ideal for meeting for a morning coffee or sundowner cocktails. As dusk falls, feast alfresco at the outside dining set, with local delicacies freshly grilled on the portable barbeque, and raise a glass of ouzo to the most memorable holiday.
What you should know…
- Access to the villa is via a steep country lane, which may be difficult for those with mobility issues
- There is an adjacent sister villa which can be rented at the same time, ideal for a large family gathering or friends get together
- You can see the sea from Villa Morel, but it’s a long and steep walk down

About the surrounding area of Villa MorelVilla Morel is set in the heart of the countryside, near the village of Argassi, on the south coast of the Greek island of Zakynthos, in the Ionian Sea. The villa is seven kilometres from Zakynthos International Airport, or island hop and arrives by ferry at the port of Agios Nikolaos. Local cafes and bars are within walking distance, and minimarts with provisions for your holiday, are a short drive away. For an evening out, Xirocastelo and Argassi are noted for their fine dining experiences.
The villa is on the Vasilikos peninsula, populated with organised sandy beaches, and the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkelling. Highly recommended beaches are, nearby Argassi, and Tsilivi to the north, and Gerakas and Kalamaki to the south. A fifteen-minute drive will take you to the holiday resort of Tsilivi, with banks and supermarkets, cafes, bars, and restaurants, and a beautiful sandy beach. Have fun on the pedaloes, take to the water on jet skis, and the air with a spot of parasailing. Laganas is famous for its seafront shops, bars and restaurants, bike and boat hire, sandy shores and water sports, thermal springs and nesting turtles, and lively nightlife. Feel the beat at Zante’s famous ‘Pure Beach Club’, party all day to the vibes from their state-of-the-art sound system, and discover the delights of a Champagne Spray. Go north to the unique Shipwreck beach, accessible only by sea. The island is renowned for its excellent hiking, trek the local countryside to discover nature’s flora and fauna. The main town of Zante is only five kilometres away, visit the Byzantine Museum, the church of Agios Markos with its imposing belfry, and the impressive church of St Dionysus, the patron saint of the island.
Go on a guided walking tour from Solomos Square, and be impressed by the historic Venetian architecture. Shop in the souvenir stores, and sip an ouzo in a Greek music bouzouki bar, as you watch the world go by. Take to the water with a catamaran tour around the coastline, join a day trip from Zante harbour, or hire your own private yacht complete with the captain. Southwest of the island is Keri Lake, a village that combines the sea, forests, valleys, and streams, and is abundantly rich in agriculture. Walk through the scented pine forests, pick grapes and olives in season, be amazed at the bouquet of natural wildflowers, take a boat trip to the Keri Caves, and then dine by the waterside.
The picture-perfect village of Bochali has an ancient Venetian castle with stunning sea, coast, and town views, and a tiny church, charmingly named Zoodos Pigi with beautiful Byzantine icons. Make sure you take a tour of one of the many vineyards across the island, sample the wine, and take a bottle or two home with you. You may be there for the Zante Carnival, inspired by the island’s Venetian heritage, the festival starts with drinking and dancing, and ends with eating cheese – need we say more!

Head to the rugged north of Zakynthos for a wealth of hidden pebbled coves, picture-perfect swimming spots, the incredible Blue Caves and popular Navagio Beach (also known as Shipwreck Beach). Tour the natural beauty of Cape Skinari, drive to the traditional village of Volimes, bathe in the healing sulphur waters of Xigia Beach, then dine by the harbourfront in Agios Nikolaos.
A little further down the eastern side of the island, be enchanted by the traditional seaside village of Alykansas with its olive groves, vineyards and family-friendly ambience, then hop on a horse-drawn carriage to Alykes across the other side of the vast sandy bay.
Venture inland to experience the island’s wild landscapes of olive groves, cypress and pine forests, mountain slopes and the lovely scent of wild thyme. Zakynthos is wonderful for nature explorers as well as keen hikers with trails criss-crossing through the valleys.
The south of Zakynthos also awaits, so loved for its beautiful beaches and the incredible Marine Park, a protected area including Gerakas Beach, Marathonisi Island and the famous loggerhead turtles.
Bustling Laganas Beach will appeal to tourists wanting to stay near restaurants, bars and a beach with summer watersports. Meanwhile, Kalamaki is located between Laganas and Zakynthos Town, ideal for couples and families searching for a long and sandy beach, inviting places to eat and a range of child-friendly activities. For a truly memorable outing, join a sea-kayaking tour of this part of the coastline in search of the island’s beloved turtles.

Best Suited For: All AgesThere are lots of lovely things for your children to see and do when you holiday in Villa Morel. Starting with the villa itself, set in a secure fenced-in garden, in which they can play, and your own private swimming pool, as there are no set hours, they can splish and splash all day. The nearest beach is easy entry, with shallow water, and sandy shore at the resort of Argassi. Better still, go north to Tsilivi, and south to Gerakos, and Kalamaki, for fabulous, family-friendly, organised beaches, with sun loungers, water sports, and cafes.
The holiday hot spot of Planos is on the same stretch of coastline, with an organised beach and plenty of activities. They’ll love to swim in the thermal springs of Laganas, which is also famous for its population of protected loggerhead turtles. Discover an aquatic paradise with a day at Tsilivi Water Park, slip down slides, swim in its many pools dedicated to different age groups, climb the rigging of a pirate ship, and explore the water jungle. For your older children, experience the ultimate adrenalin rush with the Turbolance, the quadruple Multislide, the Blackhole, and the Spacehole. For something a little gentler, your kids can try water rafting, or drifting down the lazy river.
The Water Village Zante has towering slides, a lazy river, a jacuzzi and child-friendly splash pools for your younger children. Caretta Fun Park in the south of the island has its share of pools and slides, and in the evening a whole new magic world of trampolines, bouncy castles, go-carts, cinemas, and games, comes to life. Play a round of Fantasy Mini Golf, a sixteen-kilometre course with different playing levels for all ages, slice that ball through waterfalls, windmills, and erupting volcanoes, with a play area for your younger ones. Your older ones might appreciate a game of the real thing at the nearby mini golf course.
A family fun evening can be had at Bowl’m Over, a fifties diner with a four-lane bowling alley, pool tables and air hockey, with snacks served on retro sofas and swing chairs. Get them active with nature trails across the island, horse riding through forests and sandy dunes, snorkelling and scuba diving around shipwreck island, bike rides to the blue caves and Smuggler’s Cove, or a jeep safari to discover the island’s flora and fauna.
All aboard for a day of fun in the sun, swimming, snorkelling, and sunbathing on a chartered yacht or shared caique. The town of Zante is only five kilometres from the villa, arrive in style when you take the local tourist train. Visit the square, museums, and churches, then treat them to the local sweet delicacies of Mandolato, Fytoura, and Pasteli, Do a day trip to Keri Lake, walk the cliffs to see the lighthouse, hike the hill to the top of the castle, swim in the turquoise waters of the Ionian sea, and discover the Keri caves.
