About the surrounding area of Villa ThanatosVilla Thanatos can be found in Akrotiri, on the southwest coast of the Cycladic island of Santorini, set in the Greek Aegean Sea. The villa is just over twelve kilometres from Thira International Airport, a scenic thirty-minute drive from your holiday home. Shops with provisions for your stay are a few minutes away, as are the nearest restaurants and bars.
Enjoy a day at the beach sunbathing, swimming, and snorkelling, or sample the watersports, including scuba diving, and paddleboarding. The nearest sandy shores are the beach within the Caldera, Red Beach famous for its crimson volcanic sand, and White Beach, which you can get to by boat.
The centre of Akrotiri has a well-preserved archaeological site, and a castle with views of the caldera, or better still go to the lighthouse for sunset vistas. Wander the cobbled streets of the old town, shopping for souvenirs, and sample the local dishes in welcoming trattorias.
Spend the day in Fira, the capital town of the island, with museums, a cable car ride over the caldera, cathedrals and churches, boat trips around the island and some fabulous wining and dining. Hike the caldera rim from Fira to Oia, with panoramic views of the island. See the blue domed church roofs of Oia, eat seafood by the seashore in Amoudi Bay, visit the Maritime Museum, shop in the art galleries and bijou boutiques, end the day at the castle, sipping cocktails as you watch the sunset over the caldera.

Getting There
How to reach Santorini island
There are two ways to reach Santorini Island: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: The airport of Santorini (JTR) is located in the region of Kamari that is 8 km far from Thira. Santorini island is one of the most popular Greek destinations, that is why many tourists arrive on the island with direct ferries from their country. Domestic flights are available too.
By ferry: The main port of Santorini is called Athinios (JTR) and is located 9 km outside of Thira. The trip from Piraeus can last from 5 hours (if you take a speed ferry) to 9 hours (if you prefer the conventional ferry). One more thing that you should keep in mind is that Santorini is connected through various routes to the most Cyclades islands. Best Suited For: All AgesYou and your family can have a lot of fun when you stay in Akrotiri, starting with your own private pool, where they can play all day. The nearest beaches are a short drive away, particularly recommended for families is Red Beach with its unique scarlet sand, and calm waters for swimming and snorkelling, and the black sands of Perissa, with lots of amenities, activities, and water sports for your older children, including paddleboarding and kayaking. All aboard for a day at sea, where you can enjoy cruising along the coastline.
Keep them active with a walk along the caldera rim from Fira to Oia. Saddle up for a gallop in the sands, or a donkey ride for your younger ones. Spend the day at the Santorini Water Park in Perissa, with pools and slides for children and adults of all ages. Take a wander around the Santorini Arts Factory, hosting family-friendly events and workshops. See the Akrotiri Archeological Site and ancient ruins, then visit the cave houses for a glimpse of the island’s history. Explore Ancient Thera on Mesa Vouno mountain, with remnants of times past.
