Stay by the seashore when you vacation in the ultra-elegant beachfront Villa Boreas, on the southwest coast of the Greek island of exclusive Mykonos, the jewel of the Aegean Sea. This simply stunning sea view villa has six huge ensuite double bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to twelve guests, ideal for a large family holiday, or a group of friends’ get-together. The five hundred square metres, two-storey, detached property is made up of two separate villas, and a purpose-built pergola for outside living. The villa is an oasis of seclusion and tranquillity, set in its own grounds and gardens, with your own private infinity pool and Jacuzzi, surrounded by local stone walls. Villa Boreas is constructed out of classic Mediterranean white-washed walls, in a traditional Cycladic style, with lots of arches, and picture windows that open onto sea-view balconies and panoramic terraces.

The property comes complete with secure parking, and complimentary air conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout. Best of all, when you stay at Villa Boreas you will have your very own Butler, which in our books is a winner. The interiors are exquisite, furnished with designer contemporary pieces, and modern art adorns the walls, it is stylishly decorated in a sophisticated palette of subdued muted earth tones, whilst the vibe is laid-back Mykonos luxury living.

The main house of the villa has an impressive open-plan living space, with breathtakingly beautiful, sweeping sea views. The seating area has two large comfy sofas, two formal armchairs, and coffee and side tables, arranged around a flat-screen television, and a wood-burning fire for those cooler months and cosy evenings. The dining room is housed under an arch with a large ten-seater table for some splendid indoor entertaining. The toffee brown and white kitchen is fully equipped with all the appliances you will need to cater for your stay, including that must-have morning coffee maker, and a breakfast bar. There is a second smaller fully equipped kitchen, with a sea view, and a soft seating area. A guest cloakroom completes the ground floor. There are six superbly-appointed light and airy bedrooms, each with the most magnificent enormous ensuite bathrooms, all handsomely tiled in a different theme. In the main and second house some of the bedrooms come with studio-style sitting rooms, some with sea-view furnished balconies, and some with kitchenettes.

The outdoor space at Villa Boreas has the wow factor, an expansive, stone paved, tiered terrace, with a centrepiece, step entry, infinity swimming pool, and separate Jacuzzi, where you can sip cocktails and watch the yachts sail by. The pool is surrounded by inviting, white cushioned, wooden sun loungers, and squishy bean bags, where you can relax and catch up with this year’s best seller. Soft seating spots are perfectly positioned to capture those mesmerising sea views. A permanent whitewashed pergola gives shade to a built-in wrap-around sea view sofa, a twelve-seater dining set, and a fully equipped summer kitchen, with a barbeque. As dusk falls, and the sun begins to set, meet on the terrace, where your Butler will be serving champagne, and make a toast to the most fabulous holiday, in the most magnificent setting.

Villa Boreas is a luxurious oasis nestled in the slopes overlooking Agios Ioannis Diakoftis beach, located on the southwest coast of Mykonos, the jet-set Cycladic island in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The villa is five kilometres from Mykonos Airport, which is served by both local and international flight operators. If you are island hopping, then the nearby islands of Naxos and Syros also have their own airports. You can walk to Agios Ioannis Diakoftis beach from the villa, and dive into the azure waters of the Aegean Sea, whilst nearby Kapari, Ornos, and St John beaches are a short drive away. The village of Ornos is near to the villa, with two beaches, streets lined with traditional tavernas, and a harbour with boats that can take you to sandy shores and nearby Delos.

The coastline is populated with many beautiful golden sandy beaches and exclusive beach clubs, take your pick from the fashionable Buddha Beach Bar, the family-friendly favourite of Agios Stephanos, or party, party, party all day long on hedonistic Super Paradise Beach, with its crystal clear waters, restaurants, bars, and clubs with resident DJs. Seek solace in one of the eight hundred churches that populate the island, most notably Paraportiani, which is a unique construction combining four styles of architecture, or the nearby church of St George Spilinnos, uniquely built into the cavity of the rocks. Mykonos town, known locally as Chora, is a five-minute drive away.

Wander the maze of streets with colourful Cycladic houses, festooned with bright bougainvillea, and do some serious designer-label shopping in one of the many luxury boutiques. Enjoy a moonlit dinner at a seafront restaurant of freshly caught seafood, whilst sipping ouzo, and watching the beautiful people pass by. Find out the island’s history and culture at the Archaeological, Folk and Maritime Museums, then go out slightly of town to Lena’s House to discover how the islanders lived. Take a walk up to the landmark Kato Mili windmills, where once the wheat was ground to make bread, and is now a mini museum and residencies. Walk along the waterfront to Little Venice, where the original and colourful merchant houses overhang the sea, and is now home to cafes, bars, restaurants, and galleries, best enjoyed at sunset with a retsina or two. Admire the Armenistis lighthouse, still fully functioning and an essential asset of Mykonos’ maritime history.

No visit to Mykonos is complete without a day at sea, join a catamaran jolly and snorkel in the sea, or charter your own yacht and discover secret coves and hidden bays and beaches. For the romantics, nothing beats a sunset cruise, cocktail in hand as the sun sets over the horizon. Hop aboard a ferry for a day trip to the adjacent island of Tinos, see the landmark Renaissance-style Church of Panagia Evangelistria, tilt at windmills, visit the fifty villages, walk the ancient fortifications, and coo at the famous dovecotes. Cross the sea to the uninhabited island of Delos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home to the birthplace of Zeus and Leto.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Your kids will just love a holiday on the island of Mykonos, and there’s a surprising number of fun and family-friendly activities to keep them amused. Starting with Villa Boreas’ private swimming pool with Jacuzzi, and as there are no set hours they can play and splash all day. The nearest beach is a short walk to the sandy shores of Agios Ioannis Diakoftis, where they can swim and snorkel in the calm water of the Aegean Sea. The nearby beaches of Kapari, Ornos and St John are a short drive away.

The coastline of Mykonos is populated with lots of organised family-friendly beaches. We especially recommend Agios Stefanos Beach, with organised pre-bookable sun loungers and parasols, cafes, bars, mini-marts, and shallow entry calm seas, and it is protected from the northerly winds. Your little daredevils can enjoy a selection of water sports, from fun rides to daring speed boats. Room Anastasia Beach is a bit further north, a family-friendly beach in a beautiful bay, with wooden sun beds and shady straw parasols. Take your younger children to the Animal Organic Farm, where they can pet and feed the livestock, harvest seasonal crops, enjoy time in nature, and be kept busy with farming tasks. Your older kids can take a hike over the island’s landscape, exploring the local flora and fauna, ending with a cooling dip in the sea. For those who prefer a more natural form of transport, take them horseback riding in Ano Mera.

All the family will love a day at sea, island hop aboard a shared Catamaran, or charter a private yacht to swim and snorkel and discover secret coves and hidden bays. For the thrill seekers, fasten your seatbelts on the Mykonos Rib boat, which whizzes around the island. Keep the creatives happy with a mosaic workshop, or a family cooking lesson with a local chef teaching you all how to make traditional Greek meze. Mykonos town is a must-see, wander the winding streets, shop for souvenirs, meet Petros the Pelican, the mascot of Mykonos, and then enjoy a family-friendly meal in a seafront taverna.

For your intellectually curious offspring, there are the Archaeological, Maritime and Folk Museums, and Lena’s House, all within walking distance of the old town. See Little Venice, a pirate’s paradise of a maze of streets with colourful houses overhanging the sea. Tilt at windmills at the top of the town, the landmark of Mykonos, where they used to grind wheat and make bread, and is now a mini museum and residencies. The Lighthouse of Mykonos is seven kilometres northeast of the town, and worth a visit for the stunning sea views to the island of Tinos. Mykonos is home to the best Go-Kart track in Greece, open every day from April until November from 10 am until 2 am. Venture further afield to the adjacent island of Delos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and birthplace of Zeus and Leto, Apollo and Artemis.
