The villa comes with all the mod cons, including air conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout, as well as garage parking. With a glass-fronted, sea and city view, the terrace has a shared infinity swimming pool, with the most elegant wooden chaise longue, and deep white cushioned, sun loungers. and dinky side tables to house a glass of the famous Santorini wine. The accommodation has a light and airy open plan living space, which has a white and navy-edged sofa, which can transform to be a bed to sleep one, a scattering of handcrafted wooden coffee tables, a director’s chair, and a flat-screen television. A small kitchenette is fully equipped with everything you will need to cater for your holiday, and a cute three-seater table and chairs are ideal for indoor dining.

An internal arch leads to a beautifully appointed spacious white and navy bedroom, which has a king-size bed, and louvre door-fitted wardrobes. Villa Arcturus can be found nestled in the hillside of the village of Firostefani, overlooking the town of Fira, the capital of Santorini, a Cycladic island in the southern Aegean Sea. The villa is just eight kilometres from Santorini’s International Airport, and eleven kilometres from the port of Athinios. Arrive by plane from European destinations and Athens, island hop by ferry and catamaran, or if you are feeling super stylish, you can even make an entrance by helicopter.

The village of Firostefani is built into the volcanic cliffside and is within easy walking distance of the main town of Fira. Mini marts, local stores, cafes and bars, restaurants and nightclubs are but a saunter from the villa, with everything you will need for your holiday almost on your doorstep. The nearest beach is just over three kilometres away, including Perivolos, one of the best-organised beaches on the island with volcanic scenery, a mountain backdrop, and a choice of exhilarating water sports. It's downhill all the way to the main town of Fira, where you can visit several museums, chose from the Santorini Wine Museum, the Archeological Museum of Thera, the Museum of Prehistoric Fira, or the Tomato Museum. Take a walk up the top of Thera Mountain, where you can explore the ancient city ruins, and admire the views from the world’s only sunken caldera. Stroll the nine-kilometre trail and hike the caldera edge until you get to the most-photographed town of Oia, an original fishing village on the north coast.

Enjoy wandering the winding lanes of this enchanting town, shop in luxury boutiques, eat seafood at the water’s edge, tilt at windmills, visit blue domed churches, cliff dive off Ammoudi Bay, and stay until sunset for the photographs. Take a boat trip to the uninhabited islet of Nea and Palia Kameni, an active volcano, with a path of black lava rock, smoking craters, and sulphurous hot springs. Visit the villages and find out what life was really like. Highly recommended is Pyrgos, found in the foothills of Mount Profitis, surrounded by vineyards that produce the highly prized Assyrtiko white wines. Take a trip back in time as you walk down the steep medieval alleyways, populated with tavernas and wine bars, art galleries and gift shops, a museum that showcases traditional island life, and one that is home to religious relics in the former Agia Triada chapel. Don’t miss a visit to Akrotiri, a prehistoric city, that was believed to be the first settlement on the island dating back to Neolithic times. For more recent history, The Arygyros Mansion has guided tours of this neo-classical Venetian merchant’s home.

Santorini hosts an annual film festival, and the twice daily film screenings at the alfresco Cine Kamari are not to be missed. The island is renowned for its fabulous wines, most especially the crisp dry whites, take a tour of the many vineyards, and make sure you take a bottle home with you. The Cycladic architecture, the blue domes, and the most stunning sunsets are what the island is famous for, and to help you capture those memories, you can even take a photography tour. If you can bear to tear yourself away from this most mystical of destinations, spend a day island hopping, swimming and snorkelling in the azure seas, enjoying a meal of Greek meze on board, or simply watching the sunset as you come back into the harbour.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

There are lots for kids to do and see when you holiday on the beautiful island of Santorini. The villa has a shared swimming pool, where they can enjoy a swim and splash in the sunshine. The town of Fira is just a short walk away, with lots of museums, and the high point of ancient Thera, with views as far as the eye can see. Your older children may like to hike the caldera edge, a nine-kilometre walk to the town of Oia in the north. A visit to Oia should be on the cards, even if you don’t walk there, this most instagrammable fishing village dates from the middle ages, and is believed to be the origins of the lost city of Atlantis.

Explore the picturesque blue-domed town, and discover the iconic windmills, originally built to grind wheat for bread. Santorini is populated with the most incredible volcanic black, red, and white, sandy beaches, with superb crystal clear water sea. Particularly recommended for being family-friendly with organised facilities, cafes and bars, and some with water sports, are the black sand Monolithos, Pristina, Kamari, Red, White, and the nearest Perivolos beaches. Beware the darker sand can get very hot in high season, and aqua shoes are a must for adults and children alike. No holiday in Santorini is complete without a family day at sea, join a boat tour, hire a catamaran, or charter a yacht, and island hop around the Cyclades. Swim, snorkel, and scuba in azure seas, dine aboard on a meal of Greek meze, get on a jet ski, or learn how to stand up paddleboard.

Children love a trip to the live volcanic islet of Nea and Palia Kameni, where you can walk through black lava, smoking craters, and smelly sulphurous springs. Have some fun at the mini golf in Kamari, where you can all practice your putting. Go on a jeep safari and take a tour of the villages, learn about the local flora and fauna, and traditional way of life. Absorb the history of the island at Akrotiri, where they can explore one thousand year old ruins, in an area dating back to 4500BC. Take them to SAWA, an animal sanctuary for the island’s dogs, cats, and donkeys. As the sun sets, watch the stars under the stars, at the alfresco Cine Kamari, where you can all enjoy a screening of your favourite movies.

Reviews

  • Great place, great location!

    on 09/11/2023

Great place, great location! We loved our stay here, its just outside the town of Thira, which was perfect because we could walk in and out easily (~10-15 minutes) but was out of noise and commotion! Also the views were incredible! Better views here than most restaurants we went to. You do share the pool with villa next door. Would absolutely stay here again!
