Nestled in the hillside of exclusive Agios Lazaros, Villa Soso, with its azure blue panoramic vistas will simply take your breath away. This luxury villa is located on a promontory on the southwest coast of magical Mykonos, one of the Cycladic islands, in the heart of the Aegean Sea. Villa Soso is home to eight en suite bedrooms, arranged over five tiers, and can comfortably and stylishly accommodate up to fifteen guests, ideal for a large family gathering or friends sharing.

This architect-designed classic Cycladic sugar cube villa is built out of traditional white-washed stone, with painted wood timbered ceilings, and some of the bathrooms hewn out of the rocky cliffside. Villa Soso comes with its own private parking spaces, complimentary air conditioning and Wi-Fi are included throughout, and flat-screen televisions are in the sitting room and every bedroom. The interiors complement the exterior, taking the Cycladic style indoors, with curved staircases and arched rooms. The villa has been furnished with contemporary pieces, and decorated throughout with an elegant palette of white, with soft greys, beiges, and ochres for contrast. Original art adorns the walls, and the villa is dressed with a combination of traditional and modern artefacts. The floor-to-ceiling windows with billowing white curtains allow in natural light and sea breezes and reward the guests with stunning sea views as far as the eye can see.

The six hundred and fifty square metres of living space is a holiday home of light and airy open-plan living. At pool level, the spacious all-white seating area has a wrap-around sofa and two matching settees, a scattering of coffee tables, arranged around a smart flat-screen television with a DVD player, and an open fire for those cooler months and evenings. There is a built-in white cushioned window seat, under an arch with peek-a-boo sea views. The adjacent white dining set is ideal for some impressive indoor entertaining. A white galley kitchen is fully equipped with the latest gadgets to cater for your holiday, including a built-in oven, microwave and hob, dishwasher and a family-size fridge freezer. A handy guest cloakroom completes this floor.

Starting at the upper level, the master bedroom has a king-size bed, a walk-in closet, a study area, an en suite bedroom, and windows that open onto a furnished balcony with azure sea views. The middle level has two bedrooms, one with a queen size double bed, the other is a single room, both with their own independent entrances, en suite bathrooms, and fabulous sea view terraces. The Jacuzzi level has four double bedrooms with either king or queen size beds, all with en suite bathrooms, and access to a splendid sea view terrace. The eighth bedroom is at ground level, with its own independent entrance, a queen size bed, an en suite shower room and a sea view terrace.

We bet you will be spending most of your time relaxing on the tiered terrace, whether it’s starting the day with a Greek traditional breakfast of yoghurt and local honey, or ending it with a Greek barbeque of freshly grilled meats. The focus of your attention will most definitely be the inviting infinity swimming pool, long enough to do a few lengths, and large enough to enjoy some fun in the sun. The pool is surrounded by wooden white cushioned sun loungers, strategically positioned for maximum sea views. Seek some shade and solace on the white cushioned sofas situated under the built-in pergola. After a day’s swimming and sunbathing cool down under the poolside shower. If its bubbles you are after, then take the stairs down to the lower terrace, where you will find an eight seater Jacuzzi, with a view straight out to sea and the ancient island of Delos. As the sun sets meet in the Jacuzzi level white cushioned lounges for sundowners, before eating alfresco at the pool level dining table.

What you should know…

  •  Although the villa has sea views, the nearest sandy beach is a bit of a steep walk down the hillside, great exercise though
  • We recommend hiring a car to see all the sights you wish to see, although there is an excellent taxi and public transport system across the whole of the island
  • All of the bedrooms have double beds, and one has one single beds, there are no twin rooms

Villa Soso is located on the southwest coast of fashionable Mykonos, part of the Cyclades islands in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The exclusive island of Mykonos measures only ten kilometres long by fifteen kilometres wide, so wherever you want to go it’s only a short drive away.

The villa is just four kilometres from Mykonos airport, which is served by both local and international flight operators. If you are island hopping, then nearby Naxos and Syros also have their own airports. The new port of Mykonos is a hub of activity for those landing and departing from island hopping ferries, or super yachts cruising the Aegean, and is a quick twenty minute drive to the villa. The villa is situated on a promontory of rocks in fashionable Agios Lazaros, overlooking the Gulf of Ornos, and the islands of Delos and Renia.

The village of Ornos is to the north, with two beaches, and streets lined with traditional tavernas and a harbour with boats that can take you to local beaches and nearby Delos. Villa Soso is near the village of Psarou, with a white sandy beach, and local shops for your holiday provisions. Nearby is Korfos for kitesurfing, and the fabulous uber trendy Buddha Beach Bar for some serious fun in the sun. Treat yourself to a luxury treatment at Santa Maria’s Ginkgo Spa. To the south is Elia and Agrari beaches, offering a selection of water sports, a children’s playground, and cafes and bars, and calmer sea waters than those in the north. The coastline is populated by many beautiful golden sandy beaches, take your pick from nearby nudist Elia beach, to the family-friendly favourite of Plays Gialos Beach, or party, party, party all day long on Super Paradise Beach, with its crystal clear waters, restaurants, bars, and clubs with resident DJs, there’s something for everyone on the island of Mykonos.

During daylight hours play penance in one of the eight hundred churches that populate the island, most notably Paraportiani, which is a unique construction combining four styles of architecture. Take a visit to Mykonos town, known locally as Chora, and only four kilometres from the villa. Here you can wander the maze of streets with the colourful Cycladic houses, do some serious designer-label shopping in one of the many luxury boutiques. Take a table at a seafront restaurant and enjoy a dish of freshly caught seafood, whilst sipping ouzo and watching the beautiful people pass by. Find out the island’s history and culture at the Archaeological Museum, the Folk Museum, and the Maritime Museum, then go out of town to Lena’s House to discover how the islanders lived. Take a walk up to the landmark windmills, known as Kato Mili, where once the wheat was ground to make bread and is now a mini museum and residencies. Walk along the waterfront to Little Venice, where original merchant houses overhang the sea, and is now home to cafes, bars, restaurants, and galleries, best enjoyed at sunset with a retsina or two. Admire the Armenistis lighthouse, still fully functioning and an essential asset of Mykonos’ maritime history.

No visit to Mykonos is complete without a day at sea, join a catamaran jolly and snorkel in the sea, or if you’re feeling flush, charter your own yacht and discover secret coves and hidden bays and beaches. For the romantics, nothing beats a sunset cruise, cocktail in hand as the sun sets over the horizon. Further afield the uninhabited island of Delos is well worth a visit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to the birthplace of Zeus and Leto, go with a group or arrange your own private tour.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Your kids will just love a holiday on the island of Mykonos, and there’s a surprising number of fun and family activities to keep them amused. Starting with Villa Soso’s private infinity swimming pool, and as there are no set hours they can play and splash all day. Nearby is Psarou beach, and just along the coast Agrari beach offers water sports for your older children, and a playground for the younger ones, as well as a café and bar.

The coastline of Mykonos is dotted with family-friendly beaches, many of which you can book ahead, the villa is on the south coast, which has much calmer seas, and is safer for children. We can recommend Agios Ioannis beach with an infrastructure with pre-bookable sun loungers and parasols, cafes, and calm seas, Kalo Livadi in the southeast has views over the Cyclades archipelago and the island of Naxos, and Panormos Beach offers a great restaurant with giant bean bags. Your younger children may enjoy a visit to the Animal Organic Farm, where they can pet and feed the livestock, harvest seasonal crops, enjoy some time in nature, and keep themselves busy with some traditional farming tasks. Whilst your older kids could take a guided hike over the island’s landscape, exploring the local flora and fauna, and ending with a cooling dip in the sea. All of the family will love a day at sea, whether it’s island hopping aboard a shared Catamaran, or chartering a yacht and discovering secret coves and hidden bays and beaches, and swimming and snorkelling spotting friendly fish. Keep the creatives happy with a mosaic workshop, or a family cooking lesson with a local chef teaching you all to make traditional Greek meze. A trip to Mykonos town is a must, wander the winding streets, shop for souvenirs, meet Petros the Pelican, the mascot of Mykonos, and then enjoy a family-friendly meal in a seaside taverna.

For your intellectually curious offspring, there’s the Archaeological Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Folk Museum, and Lena’s House, all within walking distance of the old town. A short walk along the seafront will take you to Little Venice, a pirate’s paradise of a maze of streets with colourful houses overhanging the sea. Tilt at windmills at the top of the town, the landmark of Mykonos, where they once used to grind wheat and make bread for the islanders, now a mini museum and residencies. The Lighthouse of Mykonos is seven kilometres northeast of the town, and well worth a visit for the stunning sea views to the island of Tinos, and to watch the boats arriving and departing from the harbour. Who would have thought it, but Mykonos is home to the best Go-Kart track in Greece, open every day from April until November from 10 am until 2 am, which should keep them occupied all day.

For those who prefer a more natural form of transport, they can mount a pony and go horseback riding in Ano Mera. If you want to venture further afield, a trip to the adjacent island of uninhabited Delos is a delight, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the birthplace of Zeus and Leto, Apollo and Artemis, cross the water by private charter or a shared tour for a fabulous family day out.
