Pool Modern Self-Catered Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach All Bedrooms En-Suite

If contemporary cool urban living by the sea is your thing, then a vacation in the simply stunning Villa Ambrogio is the place for you. This architect-designed property is built into the hillside overlooking Elia bay, on the southern tip of magical Mykonos, a Cycladic island in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The two hundred and ten square metres of property space has five bedrooms and five bathrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to ten guests, ideal for a large family, or groups of friends sharing.

Built-in the hillside out of classic Mediterranean white stone over two storeys, the villa is situated in a one and a half thousand square metre plot, surrounded by stone walls and mature trees for privacy and security. Villa Ambrogio commands stunning sea views from all aspects, including the private infinity pool on the terrace. The villa comes with up to four private parking places, and for your comfort and enjoyment is complete with complimentary air conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout. The interiors are super stylish, furnished with contemporary pieces, and decorated in a neutral palette of calm pastel colours. Floor to ceiling retractable doors open onto outside living spaces and flood the villa with light and air.

Enter the villa at the first level which has ninety square metres of open plan living space, with removable windows for unobstructed panoramic sea views. The seating area has a built-in sofa, two wicker and woven armchairs, a modern wooden coffee table, and a flat-screen smart television. The long wooden dining table and moulded chairs are an ideal place for some impressive indoor entertaining. The all-white kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to cater for your holiday, including a built-in oven and hob, an American style family size fridge freezer, a dishwasher and washing machine, and that must-have Nespresso coffee maker.

The first of the five bedrooms can be found on this floor, with a large double bed, an en suite bathroom, direct access to the pool, perfect for a few lengths before breakfast, and its own private veranda. Take the stairs to the second level which has one hundred and twenty square metres of space for four further spacious beautifully-dressed bedrooms. The master bedroom suite has a large double bed, picture window sea views with a balcony, and an ensuite shower room. There is a further bedroom with a double bed and an ensuite bathroom, a twin bedroom with two single beds, that can be a double on request, and an ensuite bathroom, and the last bedroom with a double bed and separate private bathroom. A large wind-protected sea view patio, with stairs down to the pool terrace, completes the upper floor.

We bet you’ll be spending most of your time on the superb two level terrace, with its own uber cool in-built sound system. Take a dip in the ten metre by six metre private infinity swimming pool, with a rather hip floating double bed. The pool is surrounded by cushioned wicker sun loungers, and a scattering of comfy laid back squishy chairs, just right for relaxing after an afternoon dip. Cool down under the poolside shower, before snoozing on the covered curved sofa in the shade. Join your friends at the built-in bar for a sundowner at sunset, before eating alfresco at the pergola covered dining table, with local delicacies served freshly grilled on the barbeque. When the day is done, gather around the fire pit with your loved ones and count the twinkling stars.

What you should know…

  • The as the crow flies view to the sea from the villa is just two hundred metres, but it is a 1.2 kilometre stroll down to the nearest Elia beach
  • The fourth bedroom has twin beds, that can be a double by request, and the fifth bedroom is not en suite, but does have a separate private bathroom
  • The villa is built into the hillside, and the two-storey levels are on a slope, which may be difficult for those with mobility issues
  • We recommend hiring a car to see all the sights you wish to see

Villa Ambrogio is located on the southern tip of the island of Mykonos, part of the Cyclades islands in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The exclusive island of Mykonos measures only ten kilometres long by fifteen kilometres wide, so wherever you want to go it’s only a short drive away. The villa is nine kilometres from Mykonos airport, which is served by both local and international flight operators. If you are island hopping the nearby Naxos and Syros also have their own airports. The new port of Mykonos is thirteen kilometres north of the villa and is a hub of activity for those landing and departing from island-hopping ferries, or super yachts cruising the Aegean. The villa is just over a kilometre to the nearest resort town of Elia on the south coast, famous for its white sandy beaches, and stylish seafront restaurants.

Nearby Agrari Beach is family-friendly, offering a selection of water sports, a playground, and cafes and bars, the south coast beaches have calmer sea waters than those in the north, which can be affected by the notoriously strong winds. Near the villa, there is a tennis court, fitness centre, and fishing opportunities. The coast is surrounded by many beautiful golden sandy beaches, take your pick from nearby nudist Elia beach to the family-friendly favourite of Plays Gialos Beach, or party, party, party all day long on Paradise Beach, with its crystal clear waters, restaurants, bars, and clubs with resident DJs, there’s something for everyone on the island of Mykonos. During daylight hours play penance in one of the eight hundred churches that populate the island, most notably Paraportiani, which is a unique construction combining four styles of architecture.

Take a visit to Mykonos town, known locally as Chora, a straight ten kilometres north of the villa. Here you can wander the maze of streets with the colourful Cycladic houses, and do some serious designer label shopping in one of the many luxury boutiques. Pull up a table at a seafront restaurant and enjoy a dish of freshly caught seafood, whilst sipping ouzo and watching the beautiful people pass by. Find out the island’s history and culture at the Archaeological Museum, the Folk Museum, and the Maritime Museum, then go out of town to Lena’s House to discover how the islanders lived. Take a walk up to the landmark windmills, known as Kato Mili, where once the wheat was ground to make bread and is now a mini museum and residencies. Walk along the waterfront to Little Venice, where original merchant houses overhang the sea, and are now home to cafes, bars, restaurants and galleries, best enjoyed at sunset with a retsina or two. Admire the Armenistis lighthouse, still fully functioning and an essential asset of Mykonos’ maritime history.

No visit to Mykonos is complete without a lazy day at sea, join a catamaran jolly and snorkel in the sea, or if you’re feeling flush, charter your own yacht and discover secret coves and hidden bays and beaches, For the romantics, nothing beats a sunset cruise, cocktail in hand as the sun sets over the horizon. Further afield the uninhabited island of Delos is well worth a visit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to the birthplace of Zeus and Leto, go with a group or arrange your own private tour.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Your kids will just love a holiday on the island of Mykonos, and there’s a surprising number of fun and family activities to keep them amused. Starting with Villa Ambrogio’s private infinity swimming pool, and as there are no set hours they can play and splash all day. The nearest family-friendly beach is the local Elia Bay, a short kilometre drive or walk away. Along the coast is Agrari Beach, which offers water sports for your older children, and a playground for the younger ones, as well as a café and bar.

The coastline of Mykonos is dotted with family-friendly beaches, many of which you can book ahead, the villa is on the south coast, which has much calmer seas, and is safer for children. We can recommend Agios Ioannis beach with pre-bookable sun loungers and parasols, cafes and calm seas, Kalo Livadi in the southeast has views over the Cyclades archipelago and the island of Naxos, and Panormos Beach offers a great restaurant with giant bean bags. Your younger children may enjoy a visit to the Animal Organic Farm, where they can pet and feed the livestock, harvest seasonal crops, enjoy some time in nature, and keep themselves busy with some traditional farming tasks. Whilst your older kids could take a guided hike over the island’s landscape, exploring the local flora and fauna, ending with a cooling dip in the sea. All of the family will love a day at sea, whether it’s island hopping aboard a shared Catamaran, chartering a yacht and discovering secret coves and hidden bays and beaches, and swimming and snorkelling spotting friendly fish. Keep the creatives happy with a mosaic workshop, or a family cooking lesson with a local chef teaching you all to make traditional Greek meze.

A trip to Mykonos town is a must, wander the winding streets, shop for souvenirs, meet Petros the Pelican, the mascot of Mykonos, and then enjoy a family-friendly meal in a seaside taverna. For your intellectually curious offspring, there’s the Archaeological Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Folk Museum, and Lena’s House, all within walking distance of the old town. A short walk along the seafront will take you to Little Venice, a pirate’s paradise of a maze of streets with colourful houses overhanging the sea. Tilt at windmills at the top of the town, the landmark of Mykonos, where they used to grind wheat and make bread for the islanders, now a mini museum and some are even residencies.

The Lighthouse of Mykonos is seven kilometres northeast of the town, and well worth a visit for the stunning sea views to the island of Tinos, and to watch the boats arriving and departing from the harbour. Who would have thought it, but Mykonos is home to the best Go-Kart track in Greece, open every day from April until November from 10 am until 2 am, which should keep them occupied all day. For those who prefer a more natural form of transport, they can mount a pony and go horseback riding in Ano Mera. If you want to venture further afield, a trip to the adjacent island of uninhabited Delos is a delight, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the birthplace of Zeus and Leto, Apollo and Artemis, cross the water by private charter or a shared tour for a fabulous family day out.
