Seeing is believing when you vacation at the award-winning, architect-designed, uber luxurious Villa Mandra, on the south coast of the holiday hot spot of Mykonos in the Greek Aegean Sea. This incredibly swish villa is perched on the escarpment of a hillside, hidden from view to the onlooker, yet with unobstructed panoramic views across crystal clear waters to the neighbouring island of Delos.

The villa is built over two storeys, in two blocks, one of which is cleverly submerged to a lower eye level, yet still commands stunning sea views. The central courtyard is the social hub of the house, where guests can gather to appreciate the beauty of the setting, swim in the infinity pool, and sip cocktails at sunset. The concept of Villa Mandra combines mother nature’s gifts with the latest modern technology, and a superb sense of style, to create the ultimate relaxing holiday home. The villa comes with private parking, complimentary air conditioning and Wi-FI, a Smart Home Control 4 system, and two dedicated team members.

This five ensuite bedroom villa can house up to ten guests, ideal for a large family gathering or a group of friends get-together. The villa is built of classic Cycladic white-washed walls, set within stone-walled gardens, that screen it for a sense of privacy and seclusion. The interiors are exquisite, designed with minimalism in mind, for maximum visual impact, and furnished with traditional Cycladic materials, including lime wash, local stone, and natural wood. The décor is a palette of subtle earth tones, which creates a warm, welcome, calm, and tranquil ambience.

The ground floor level has the most inviting living space, light, bright, and breezy, and furnished to the very highest specifications, with integral B&O and Sonos surround sound systems. The seating area has deep cushioned sofas, natural woven chairs, handcrafted coffee tables, and a smart television with a DVD player. There is an elegant indoor dining set to seat ten guests for the most impressive indoor entertaining. Walk down the connecting corridor which is hung with contemporary art, to the state-of-the-art kitchen. The professional Boffi kitchen is fully equipped with the very latest Gaggenau home appliances, and those must-have Rocket and Nespresso coffee machines, as well as an informal dining area. A private chef is yours for the asking by prior arrangement.

The lower ground floor is home to five spacious beautifully-appointed ensuite double bedrooms, with access to the lower terrace and sea views. For those who wish to work on a holiday, there’s room for you too. In addition 4 of the 5 bedrooms along with the entire villa have a sunset view. Which is why the area of Aleomandra is considered among the best. The shared communal space is where you will be spending most of your time, dipping in and out of the sea-view infinity swimming pool, and relaxing on the plethora of deeply cushioned sun loungers that populate the terrace. Work out at the Techno gym, and if you desire, the concierge can arrange yoga sessions and spa services with a sea view. Take morning coffee under the shady chestnut pergola as you watch the yachts sail by. Enjoy some downtime after the sun sets, and meet on the terrace for sundowners, before feasting alfresco at the outdoor dining set with dishes freshly grilled on the barbeque, and the Grecian stars come out to shine.

Villa Aleo is nestled into a promontory, overlooking the south coast of the jet-set island of Mykonos, part of the Cyclades, in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The exclusive island of Mykonos measures only ten kilometres long by fifteen kilometres wide, so wherever you want to go it’s only a short drive away. The villa is just ten kilometres from Mykonos airport, which is served by both local and international flight operators. If you are island hopping, then the nearby islands of Naxos and Syros also have their own airports.

The nearest beaches of Ornos, Psarou, and Paragka are just a short drive away. The village of Ornos is to the north of the villa, with two beaches, streets lined with traditional tavernas, and a harbour with boats that can take you to local beaches and nearby Delos. The coastline is populated by many beautiful golden sandy beaches and beach clubs, take your pick from the fashionable Buddha Beach Bar, the family-friendly favourite of Agios Stephanos, or party, party, party all day long on hedonistic Super Paradise Beach, with its crystal clear waters, restaurants, bars, and clubs with resident DJs, there’s something for everyone on the island of Mykonos.

During daylight hours play penance in one of the eight hundred churches that populate the island, most notably Paraportiani, which is a unique construction combining four styles of architecture, or nearby the church of St George Spilinnos, uniquely built into the cavity of the rocks. Mykonos town, known locally as Chora is a ten-minute drive away. Here you can wander the maze of streets with the colourful Cycladic houses and beautiful bougainvillaea, and do some serious designer label shopping in one of the many luxury boutiques. Enjoy a moonlit dinner at a seafront restaurant of freshly caught seafood, whilst sipping ouzo, and watching the beautiful people pass by.

Find out the island’s history and culture at the Archaeological Museum, the Folk Museum, and the Maritime Museum, then go out slightly of town to Lena’s House to discover how the islanders lived. Take a walk up to the landmark windmills, or as they are known locally, Kato Mili, where once the wheat was ground to make bread and is now a mini museum and residencies. Walk along the waterfront to Little Venice, where the original and colourful merchant houses overhang the sea, and is now home to cafes, bars, restaurants, and galleries, best enjoyed at sunset with a retsina or two. Admire the Armenistis lighthouse, still fully functioning and an essential asset of Mykonos’ maritime history.

No visit to Mykonos is complete without a day at sea, join a catamaran jolly and snorkel in the sea. If you’re feeling flush, charter your own yacht and discover secret coves and hidden bays and beaches. For the romantics, nothing beats a sunset cruise, cocktail in hand as the sun sets over the horizon. Hop aboard a ferry for a day trip to the adjacent island of Tinos, see the landmark Renaissance-style Church of Panagia Evangelistria, tilt at windmills, visit the fifty villages, walk the ancient fortifications, and coo at the famous dovecotes. Just across the sea is the uninhabited island of Delos is well worth a visit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to the birthplace of Zeus and Leto, go with a group or arrange your own private tour.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Your kids will just love a holiday on the island of Mykonos, and there’s a surprising number of fun and family activities to keep them amused. Starting with Villa Aleo’s private step-entry swimming pool, and as there are no set hours they can play and splash all day. The coastline of Mykonos is populated with lots of organised family-friendly beaches, many of which you can book ahead. We recommend Agios Stefanos Beach, with organised pre-bookable sun loungers and parasols, cafes, bars, mini-marts, and shallow entry calm seas, and it is protected from the northerly winds.

Your little daredevils can enjoy a selection of water sports, from fun rides to daring speed boats. Room Anastasia Beach is a bit further north, a family-friendly beach in a beautiful bay, with wooden sun beds and shady straw parasols. Your younger children may enjoy a visit to the Animal Organic Farm, where they can pet and feed the livestock, harvest seasonal crops, enjoy some time in nature, and keep themselves busy with some farming tasks. Whilst your older kids could take a hike over the island’s landscape, exploring the local flora and fauna, ending with a cooling dip in the sea. All of the family will love a day at sea, whether it is island hopping aboard a shared Catamaran, chartering a private yacht and discovering secret coves and hidden bays and beaches, swimming and snorkelling spotting friendly fish.

For the thrill seekers, fasten your seatbelts on the Mykonos Rib boat, that whiz around the island. Keep the creatives happy with a mosaic workshop, or a family cooking lesson with a local chef teaching you all to make traditional Greek meze. A trip to Mykonos town is a must and only two and a half kilometres from the villa. Wander the winding streets, shop for souvenirs, meet Petros the Pelican, the mascot of Mykonos, and then enjoy a family-friendly meal in a seaside taverna. For your intellectually curious offspring, there’s the Archaeological Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Folk Museum, and Lena’s House, all within walking distance of the old town. A short walk along the seafront will take you to Little Venice, a pirate’s paradise of a maze of streets with colourful houses overhanging the sea. Tilt at windmills at the top of the town, the landmark of Mykonos, where they used to grind wheat and make bread for the islanders, now a mini museum and some are even residencies.

The Lighthouse of Mykonos is seven kilometres northeast of the town, and well worth a visit for the stunning sea views of the island of Tinos, and to watch the boats arriving and departing from the harbour. Who would have thought it, but Mykonos is home to the best Go-Kart track in Greece, open every day from April until November from 10 am until 2 am in the morning, which should keep them occupied all day. For those who prefer a more natural form of transport, they can mount a pony and go horseback riding in Ano Mera. If you want to venture further afield, a trip to the adjacent island of Delos is a delight, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the birthplace of Zeus and Leto, Apollo and Artemis, cross the water by private charter or a shared tour for a fabulous family day out.
