Mykonos certainly adds a touch of glamour to the Greek Islands. This stunning island is brimming with gorgeous beaches, most laden with buzzy beach bars and watersports, nightclubs, a wonderful range of restaurants, cocktail bars, boutiques and delightful whitewashed villages. It is little wonder that it is a celeb mecca akin to Ibiza and Miami.

Tourlos is located on the north side of the island, just 2.5km from Mykonos Town. With its magnificent port, the stop for many cruise ships, and a smart harbour, it is very popular. The houses are freshly painted with colourful shutters and decorated with vibrant bougainvillea and other pretty flowers. Many celebrities have chosen to build luxury villas here. The Chapel of St George Spilianos, north of the harbour, is beautiful. It is built into the cavity of a rock with a lovely ambience and where you can light a candle.

The island’s beaches range from wide sandy expanses full of loungers, parasols, watersports and beach bars to quieter coves. Elia, Ornos, Psarou, Paraga, Paradise, Kalafatis and Plati Gialos are all firm favourites. Elia Beach boasts Mykonos’ longest sweep of sand. The rainbow flag at the end of the beach marks its LGBT stretch of sand. You can catch water taxis from Elia Beach to Platys Gialos. Paradise Beach and Super Paradise Beaches are the home of some of the island’s most famous nightclubs.

As well as being a party lover and boutique shoppers paradise, Mykonos is a whitewashed, Grecian gem with lush hillsides waiting to be explored.  Ano Mera is very charming and the Panagia Tourlaina and Paleokastro Monasteries are centuries old buildings worth a visit.

Mykonos Town is an enchanting warren of narrow lanes covered in bougainvillea. Lined with picturesque churches, quirky art galleries, chic boutiques, jewellery shops and charming restaurants, visitors love an afternoon meander. The town’s museums, the Archaeological Museum and the Aegean Martime Museum, are interesting.

Children adore their holidays at Villa Agate. There is so much space and the villa is extremely comfortable. The swimming pool is excellent.

There are so many wonderful beaches on the island to explore. Many of the beaches boast an excellent range of watersports, sun loungers, parasols and cafes. You can catch a water taxi from Elia Beach to beaches on the south coast. Kalo Livadi Beach offers shimmering, crystal-clear water and an amazing view of the Aegean archipelago. Agrari Beach is ideal for children who enjoy the small playground as well as the crystal clear water. Other family friendly, popular beaches are Kalafatis, Platys Gialos and Ornos which is close to Mykonos Town.

Mykonos Town is very welcoming to families. You will see children up pretty late into the evening. The Folklore Museum shows you how people used to live, work and dress in the 19th century in Mykonos. The Archaeological Museum has a fascinating collection of jewellery, figurines, statues and pottery and the Aegean Martime Museum is home to many ancient nautical instruments and vessels. There are many shops for souvenirs as well as designer goods. Mykonos Town has the densest concentration of dining options with anything from upmarket fusion to authentic Italian pasta, a favourite with children, traditional Greek tavernas and plenty of ice cream.

There are many boat trips from the harbours and water taxis. You can take water taxis from the beaches or take a boat trip from Mykonos Town’s harbour to explore the coastline or snorkel. The sacred island of Delos is high on the list for day trips. You can explore the uninhabited island, one of the most important and well-preserved archaeological sites in Greece.
