Pool Villa/House Modern Self-Catered Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach Parking Space

Enjoy picture-perfect sea views when you vacation in Villa Almyrida, overlooking beautiful Souda Bay, on the northwest coast of the Greek island of Crete, in the azure Aegean Sea. This ultra-modern villa has three ensuite double bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to six guests, ideal for a family or friends sharing holiday. The architect-designed, two-storey, detached villa, is constructed out of classic Mediterranean whitewashed walls, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, that flood the space with natural light. The property is set it its own small grounds, surrounded by high local stone walls, with a garden and decked terrace, and your own private infinity swimming pool. Villa Almyrida commands panoramic sweeping sea views, across the entire bay and beyond, and boasts the most stunning sunsets. The villa comes complete with private parking, complimentary air conditioning, and Wi-Fi throughout. The interiors are uber contemporary chic, fabulous soft furnishings combined with funky artworks and artefacts, and decorated in a sophisticated palette of cool monochromes, and subtle shades of grey.

Enter the villa to reveal a breathtaking, bright and breezy, open-plan living space, with an expansive floor-to-ceiling sea view window, with billowing white curtains, that give access to the decked terrace. The seating area has two smart dark grey sofas, with contrasting white coffee and side tables, and a flat-screen television. The adjacent six-seater wood and white dining set is the perfect place for some impressive indoor entertaining. A black and white tiled, galley-style kitchen, is fully equipped with everything you will need to cater for your holiday, including a family-sized fridge, and a built-in oven and hob. There are three minimalist wood and white bedrooms, each with a double bed, open plan wardrobes, a dressing table desk, and an ensuite bathroom with shower, hand basin, and WC.

Access the impressive decked terrace, where you will find a ladder-entry infinity swimming pool. The pool is surrounded by inviting white cushioned sun loungers, strategically positioned to look straight out to sea, and a swing chair, in which to sit, and watch the yachts sail by. A pergola covers a grassy knoll with a modern white seating set, and a low multi-cushioned day bed, where you can relax, and catch up with this year’s bed seller. A glass-fronted balcony plays host to a soft seating set, where you can meet for cocktails as the sun sets. Feast alfresco at the six-seater dining set, with dishes freshly grilled on the built-in barbeque, in the outdoor preparation area, then raise a toast to holiday memories that will last a lifetime.

Villa Almyrida can be found overlooking the beautiful Souda Bay, a deep natural harbour, on the northwest coast of the Greek island of Crete, in the Aegean Sea. The villa is one hundred and twenty-seven kilometres from Heraklion International Airport, and nearer is Chania Airport, a thirty-two-kilometre coastal road journey to your holiday home. Whether you are looking for a relaxing time sunbathing on sandy beaches, yearn for some culture, and to visit archaeological sites in the cradle of civilisation, or trek the trails through the local flora and fauna, before dancing the night away, there’s something for everyone on the island of Crete.

The seaside resort of Almyrida has a selection of local shops and mini-marts, where you can buy provisions for your holidays, and lots of cafes, bars, and restaurants, for when you don’t want to cook. The nearest beach is in Almyrida, once a traditional fishing village, now a tourist town, with a long sandy bay, a windsurfing and scuba diving school, and a small harbour from where you can take boat trips. The adjacent towns of Kalives with its blue flag beach, and Plaka with a lively nightlife, are well worth a visit. The nearby village of Kokkino Chorio is where ‘Zorba, The Greek’ was filmed, visit the glassblowing workshops, and stop in a local taverna just for the view. Visit local villages, most especially quaint Aspro, historical Gavalochori, and Kefalas, with a museum showing typical Cretan life. For those who love walking, explore the three hundred caves the island hides, hike over hillsides, streams, and rocky ravines to discover watermills and ruins, and stop along the way at a local winery to taste the fruits of the many vineyards. If you prefer sea to land, all aboard a boat trip where you can scuba or snorkel underwater ruins, and jet skis or paraglide with one of the many water sports clubs.

An hour and a half drive will take you to the town and port of Heraklion. Take a tour around the ancient Palace of Knossos, visit the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, walk along the Venetian walls, and stroll through the old quarter, where you can shop for souvenirs, before enjoying a souvlaki and ouzo like a local. Go further afield to Vai, Crete’s easternmost tip, where you will find lush forests and a unique date palm. Explore Psychro Cave, reputedly the birthplace of Zeus, and rock climb Mount Ida to find the Ideon Cave. Sitia Geopark is three hundred and fifty square kilometres of the island’s diverse ecosystem, where you can trek through gorges, bathe on beaches, walk the wetlands, bird-watch, and be at one with nature. Hike the Richtis Gorge, and stroll through streams to reach the twenty-metre waterfall, where you can cool off in the inviting pool. Find solace in the fifteenth-century Toplou Monastery, and admire its beautiful Byzantine icons. Take a boat tour to visit the intriguing island of Spinalonga, a former leper colony with a Venetian fortress, and now an open-air museum. Visit Agios Nikolaos, a harbour town that uniquely houses a lake in its centre, is home to an archaeological museum of Minoan treasures, and is full of shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants in which to sit, and watch the local life go by.

How to reach Chania

There are two ways to reach Chania: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane:
Chania Airport (CHQ) is only a 20 minutes ride away from central Chania. During the summer months, frequents overseas and domestic flights are performed. In most of the cases, there are available buses that connect Chania city and most of the villas. You can also hire a car from one of the many rental companies at the airport, or alternatively get a taxi to bring you right to your doorstep.

By ferry:
If you choose to do an island-hopping trip and use the ferry as a method of transportation, then the closest port is in Souda, only 8km from the centre of Chania. Only ferries from Piraeus in Athens or Heraklion in Crete. Heraklion port has a wider choice: you can also take a ferry from other Greek islands like Santorini, Mykonos or Paros, but you will have to take a longer bus ride to reach your villa. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

There are loads of things to do and places to see for your kids of all ages when you stay at Villa Almyrida. Starting with your own private pool, as there are no set hours, they can splash and swim all day. In the immediate vicinity, there are two family-friendly sandy blue flag beaches in the resort of Almyrida, both organised with sun loungers, brollies, a lifeguard, and facilities nearby. The Aegean Sea is a safe place to enjoy snorkelling and underwater fish spotting, whilst for older children there are windsurfing and scuba diving schools to teach them a new skill. The town of Almyrida has a small harbour, all aboard a boat for a family fun day at sea, discover hidden coves, enjoy locally cooked food, stop off for a swim, and relax and sunbathe on deck. Watercity Waterpark is an aquatic park set in eighty-seven thousand square metres, with thirty-six water games, lots of swimming pools, and slippy slides to keep your kids amused all day. Whilst the adults can enjoy a day in their own dedicated area.

Children love a day out in Heraklion, ignite their interest in history with a visit to the Palace of Knossos and the Archaeological Museum, walk along the harbour walls, and enjoy a meal of local mezes in a family-friendly local taverna. Your kids will love the CRETaquarium, located in the town of Gournes, which is home to two and a half thousand aquatic species housed in sixty fish tanks. After the aquarium, take the short drive to Dinosauria Park, where you will find animatronic dinosaur models and fossil replicas. If theme parks are their thing, let them get lost in the Greek mythology Labyrinth Park maze, where they can also practice their putting at the mini golf, learn to ride horseback or shoot some arrows with a bit of archery. Go cross country in an off-road Land Rover and open-top Jeep Safari to see the Cretan countryside in a thrilling ride.

Travel further afield to Agios Nikolaos, a statue spot around the town’s central lake, climb the culture of contemporary art stairs, and learn about Minoan history in the Archaeological Museum. Hike the island to see the local flora and fauna, find the cave that Zeus was born in, follow the stream trail to hidden waterfalls, and visit the open-air Sitia Geopark and discover Crete’s diverse ecosystem. A visit to Crete isn’t complete without a trip to Spinalonga, now an open-air museum, reached by a short boat trip from Elounda, the home of a former leper colony and a ruined Venetian fortress, and now the setting for many a film, it makes for a fascinating day out for children and adults alike.
