The swimming pool invites you for relaxing afternoons on the poolside terrace or you may prefer to kick back in the jacuzzi, followed by evening aperitifs beneath the century-old horse chestnut tree. Hop in the car and within 2km you can be in the heart of old Aix-en-Provence, France’s oldest university town with its markets, galleries, museums and gardens. Le Cours Mirabeau is especially scenic with its shady trees and café terraces, not to mention its vibrant atmosphere as the evening nears.
Beyond Aix-en-Provence, discover the Provençal landscapes that inspired Cezanne, soak up the seaside ambience of Cassis, hike through the incredible Calanques National Park or even spend time in the exciting city of Marseille, only half an hour from your wonderful holiday home.

About the surrounding area of Villa UmbertoVilla Umberto is located in the suburbs of Aix-en-Provence, around 2km from the town’s old quarter and with easy access to the D9 road that leads to the TGV train station (13km) and Marseille Airport (24km).
The villa and its gardens feel like a hidden oasis as busy life carries on as normal just a few steps away. A boulangerie and other amenities are a short walk away in this residential area.
With its pretty squares and tree-lined boulevards, Aix-en-Provence is a town full of charm which has attracted artists, writers and musicians over the years. Its famous Cours Mirabeau is lined with plane trees alongside café terraces with such a typical Provençal ambience. Once in the heart of the old quarter, explore on foot, coming across fountains, art galleries, museums, high-end restaurants and delicious food shops. Enjoy the markets that take place on the town square and look out for all sorts of concerts and festivities taking place across the year.
Beyond the town, follow Cézanne’s footsteps and be inspired by the landscapes around Mount Sainte-Victoire, discovering little villages such as Pourrières, Tholonet and Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume.
The Mediterranean is also within striking distance whether spending the day in the exciting and vibrant city of Marseille (30km) or heading to the gorgeous seaside town of Cassis (50km) with its pretty fishermen houses, restaurants, beaches, boat trips and incredible hikes through the Calanques National Park.

Younger guests and adults alike will love the town’s exciting museums, large parks, art galleries and the enchanting Paul Cézanne Carousel on the atmospheric Cours Mirabeau. A little road train will tour you around the town, then stop off for an ice-cream or another sweet treat in one of the many patisseries selling local delicacies such as Calissons d’Aix.
To the north of the town, spend the day at Zoo Barben around half an hour away, look out for amusement parks such as Le Village Des Automates and Parc Grimmland or enjoy tree-top adventures at Accro Passion near Salon-de-Provence.
The Mediterranean coast is also easily reached – Cassis is around a 45-minute drive away, a charming seaside resort with pretty beaches and water-based activities including snorkelling, windsurfing and kayaks. Admire the incredible Calanques National Park by boat or enjoy a family walk following one of the gentler hiking trails.
Further along the coast, visit La Ciotat for more great beaches and other family-friendly attractions as well as boats across to the idyllic and peaceful île Verte.
