You cannot fail to relax at Villa Novelli, which is within a gorgeous garden in the Provence countryside just outside Lioux. With three bedrooms, Villa Novelli is perfect for families or friends wanting to explore this magical region.

Villa Novelli has an open-plan design and is built on one level. The living space sits at the front of the house, opening onto the terrace and an al-fresco dining space, with the bedrooms at the back of the house. The living area is cosy and snug, with a sofa, chairs, television and a beamed ceiling, allowing a warm ambience. Just off this area is your dining space which is bright and airy with French doors opening to the terrace. The chef in your group can prepare a delicious feast in the country kitchen, which can be washed down with some tasty local wine.

The master bedroom suite has a comfy double bed and a fully-tiled en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, and his and hers sinks. Similarly minimalist in design, the second bedroom also features a double bed and ceiling beams. The third bedroom offers twin wrought iron beds with lovely bedspreads that suit the tone of the house.

Although the interiors of Villa Novelli are delightful, guests staying here are likely to spend most of their time outside. The gardens are beautiful, with lush lawns, plenty of ancient olive trees, elegant borders and wonderful terraces. The views are stunning, with the Luberon Mountains in full view from the swimming pool. The pool enjoys an ideal position, with a fabulous shaded al-fresco lounge and sun loungers. Wandering in the garden amongst the olive trees and lavender is soothing for the soul, and the memory of those views will go home with you!

The tiny village of Lioux sits in the heart of the Natural Park of Luberon, roughly 15km from Apt and at the foot of the southern plateaus of the Vaucluse Mountains. You will enjoy the sound of cicadas and the shade of wooded valleys, or if you prefer a more active holiday, you can hike the Cliff of the Madeleine trail, which sits above the village, 700m long. This massive limestone formation marks the geological thrust of the Monts de Vaucluse and contrasts with the ochre colours of its neighbour, Roussillon.

There are also ancient castles, one now the home of Pierre Cardin, the remains of windmills and the Church of Saint Romain, a gorgeous Romanesque building. The gastronomy of the village is renowned, and it is known for its production of AOC Ventoux wines and the Aigues wine label. Olive, almond and fruit trees also surround the village.

Villa Novelli is surrounded by a gorgeous garden and a tapestry of the French countryside. It is nestled just outside the tiny village of Lioux in the heart of the Luberon valley in Provence.

Lioux is stunning, with ancient buildings, ruins and a delightful array of restaurants and cafes. Its neighbour, Roussillon, contrasts with this grey limestone village. While wandering in the village, you will discover two privately owned chateaux, Le Chateau Renaissance de Javon and the Chateau St Lambert. Far from the main highways, Lioux is peaceful and charming. The Church of Saint Roman is a beautiful Romanesque building.

The characterful village of Gordes, a must-visit, is within easy reach of Villa Novelli. Gordes’ Tuesday morning market is perfect for picking up local produce and a few souvenirs. The village also boasts narrow alleyways with restaurants, cafes, a bakery and food shops and has superb views. It has a fascinating history too, dating back to the Vordeuses, who named it Vorda. The hidden treasure of the Caves du Palais Saint Firmin is just a five-minute walk from the castle. These cellars would have been used in the Middle Ages to house craft activities, and it is still possible to see an old oil mill, cisterns, and pipes dug into the rock today. A small underground city can be explored with its carved pillars, stone staircases and vaulted ceilings.

The neighbouring village of Roussillon boasts a sensational colour palette of all shades of ochre and the village houses that spiral down the hill look amazing with this vivid colour palette. It sits on the ridge of a steep red cliff with brilliant vistas across the valley to the Grand Luberon, the slopes of Mont Ventoux and the Vaucluse plateau. The main square of Roussillon is home to a number of wonderful restaurants with excellent views or tables on the square. As well as excellent restaurants, there is a fabulous ice cream shop, especially popular with children.

Apt is a lovely town close by which hosts the biggest market in the Luberon with three hundred stalls in the summer. The town is full of fountains, squares, grand townhouses, bars, cafes and restaurants.

You can also visit Bonnieux, an Instagram-worthy Provençal gem full of beautifully preserved buildings and restaurants, cafes and shops. With views over the valley, it is an excellent spot. You will be mesmerised by the patchwork of orchards and vineyards towards the equally picturesque village of Lacoste across the Vaucluse plateau. Surrounded by towering cedars, you can take in stunning views of Monts de Vaucluse, Mont Ventoux and Lacoste, Gordes and Roussillon.

Villa Novelli is perfect for a family holiday with a delightful open-plan living space and a stunning garden. The village of Lioux is charming, with a good choice of restaurants, and there are some lovely walks nearby.

Provence is a wonderful destination for a family holiday. The region’s picture-postcard villages are so pretty, each offering cafes, patisseries selling delicious goodies, and ancient buildings. Many of the nearby towns boast old-fashioned carousels and playgrounds. Families that love the outdoors will also enjoy hiking and cycling through the mountains and valleys and if you have any daredevils with you, it is possible to bungee jump, canoe, kayak or take part in some canyoning. Canoeing or kayaking down the Sorgue River is also a great activity for the whole family. The emerald green-coloured river is crystal clear, coming out of the ground at Fontaine de Vaucluse, where your water adventure begins.

Animal-loving children will love a trip to Barben Zoo. A little train takes you around the zoo, and the animals have large enclosures. There is a reptile and snake house, a playground and a preserved medieval castle, the Chateau de Barben, next door.

Avignon’s little tourist train takes visitors to the town’s main sights, including the Palais des Papes, the famous bridge and the old city's winding, pretty back streets. Children can visit several museums in Avignon, including The Musée Requien, a natural history museum. In summer, a giant Ferris wheel is installed on the river bank, and there is a carousel near the Palais des Papes. Children also can pick up food in the covered food market. There are a number of annual festivals, including the Festo Pitcho at Easter, with a fancy dress parade, shows and performances.
