Overview

Pool Ideal for Kids

Imagine relaxing on one of the many terraces with a glass of Côtes de Provence looking out towards the field of summer lavender, just a stone’s throw away from one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. This is Villa Gusteau, a charming and incredibly Provençal holiday home just a five-minute drive from the exquisite village of Gordes.

With space for up to 20 guests across various wings and a pretty cottage annexe, it’s a wonderful place for a group of friends or extended family. Gather in the main living room to sink back into a comfy sofa with its DVD library and books or spend time chatting over a glass of wine as you prepare feasts in the beautifully rustic kitchen leading out to a little terrace. A playroom gives younger guests extra space to relax whilst the spacious annexe lounge is another lovely place to unwind.

Choose between the many bedrooms scattered across the villa whether it’s the splendid master bedroom with its own sunny terrace, a characterful double under the exposed wood beams or one of the bedrooms off the courtyard or in the pretty annexe. Out of the ten main bedrooms, each has its own character and style and nine feature an en suite or private bathroom.

Set in an estate of over ten acres, discover the picturesque swimming pool, play a game of tennis on your private court, dine al-fresco cooking on the two barbecues or simply enjoy a morning coffee or evening aperitif from another tranquil spot across the gardens. To have your own lavender field is yet another enchanting feature of this gorgeous villa in Provence.

Head to nearby Gordes, just 3km away, and learn why it’s one of Provence’s most loved villages and don’t miss the weekly market on a Tuesday morning. View the iconic image of the lavender fields by the beautiful Abbaye de Sénanque or head further north to visit the famous lavender farms near Sault.

Cycle, hike or drive through the Luberon landscapes passing cherry orchards, dense woodland, farmland and vineyards, coming across some of the other archetypal perched villages of this region such as Ménerbes, Bonnieux and Roussillon. Peruse Farmer’s markets, antique shops or pottery studios and enjoy long lunches in a terrace café or winery.

Kayak down the Sorgue river, seek out tree-top adventure trails through the forests and visit historic towns and cities such as Aix-en-Provence, Saint-Rémy and Avignon in this captivating part of southern France.

Just set back off a quiet country road, reached via a tree-lined gated driveway, Villa Gusteau is set in 10 acres of wonderful grounds, only 3km from the heart of Gordes, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in the Luberon region of Provence.

The perched village of Gordes is an absolute joy to explore with its narrow lanes, picturesque cafes, many restaurants and inviting little shops. As you look out from various points in the village the views of the Luberon hills are simply glorious. Visit the lovely market on a Tuesday morning in the heart of the old village where you can pick up all sorts of fresh regional produce and local crafts as well as lavender products of course!

Just outside of Gordes is the beautiful Abbaye de Sénanque, famously surrounded by fields of lavender in the summer (usually the end of June to early August). If you adore lavender, then you may also wish to drive up to the fields around Sault, around a 45-minute drive away, and visit one of the lavender farms or distilleries, many which offer guided tours. There’s also a Lavender museum near Coustellet, perhaps combine it with a trip to the village’s excellent Farmer’s market on a Sunday morning.

Of course, the Luberon offers yet more charming markets, enticing restaurants and a wealth of history across its many gorgeous villages and towns in places such as Ménerbes, Bonnieux, Apt, Roussillon and maybe even pretty Lourmarin to the south. Nearby L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is sure to enchant you with its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante whilst water lovers will adore kayaking along the Sorgue from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.

Then there’s endless walks and hikes through the Luberon landscapes passing vineyards, farms, cherry orchards and dense woodland. Seek out cycle trails between villages, along former railway tracks or even as far as Mont Ventoux or discover rock-climbing opportunities near the tiny village of Buoux.

Further afield, head out for day trips to some of Provence’s wonderful towns and cities such as Cézanne’s Aix-en-Provence, Van-Gogh’s Saint-Rémy as well as historic Arles and Avignon.

Of course, Gordes is known for its lavender fields that tend to bloom from mid/late June to early August. That said, at any time of year you can visit the lavender farms near Sault, some which also feature donkeys and other animals, for a lovely day out with the family.

Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is a great spot for activity lovers with a tree-top adventure centre offering trails for toddlers (aged 3+, depending on height) and older children. You can also hire kayaks down the Sorgue river, a wonderful way to admire the incredible landscapes of this part of Provence.

There are walks and hikes for all abilities across the Luberon, challenging rock-climbing near the small village of Buoux and some great family cycle rides too including a paved path, La Véloroute du Cavalon, which follows a former railway line.

The caves at Grottes de Thouzon may also fascinate some youngsters, train-lovers both young and old should check out the model railways at Le Jarditrain whilst there are rides for a variety of ages at Parc Spirou, just north of Avignon.

  • Amazing time!

    on 02/09/2017

The property was better than we expected it to be ! A very unique layout in multiple buildings, so there is plenty of room to have your own space. We were there for 10 days with a great group of friends who love to cook and entertain. We utilized all the dining area options and we were pleased the kitchen was so well stocked. 10 days was actually not enough time to see all the sights in the area and utilize the house, so we're making plans for a return trip! This place is amazing!

  • A simply stunning villa

    on 18/08/2017

We stayed at Villa Gusteau for a week in July with our family, 17 in all. Everything about the villa is superb and we could not have had any better place to stay. The villa is very spacious, in fact the website photos do not adequately describe it. The bedrooms are very comfortable and some have their own sitting area. There are several libraries of books, literally hundreds of books. The kitchen is very well equipped and for the enthusiastic cook it is a dream. There is a barbecue area and 2 outdoor areas to dine. There is a play room for children and the generous owners provide equipment for tennis and other games. The views are stunning. The manager was very helpful, advising us where to shop and attending to any of our needs. She is a cheerful and generous person. We were lucky enough to stay during the lavender season and took advantage of the lavender field on the property to have a professional photographer come and take photos of our family. I cannot recommend Villa Gusteau strongly enough whether you are a family or a group of friends.

  • Dream come true

    on 17/06/2016

There were 16 of us of all ages arriving from Wisconsin and Minnesota...none of us knew what to expect, we only hoped that our stay could be half as good as other reviews! We played tennis--even at night, rode bikes through the countryside of lavender, poppies and rolled bales of hay. Ate on patios, cooked fabulous meals, went to markets, sang, laughed, enjoyed all kinds of beverages, and played Marco Polo in the refreshing pool. It was perfect!!!! Thank you

  • Stunning location just outside of Gordes

    on 15/08/2013

What a fantastic property! There were 15 of us for 2 weeks in this lovely estate and everyone enjoyed every minute. The description was accurate regarding all the amenities and even better. It is very well stocked with kitchen items and we were able to use the vast selection of dishes and glasses provided. It is a nice blend of casual with elegant so we felt at home. The living room and dining room in the main house were perfect for inside dining and evening viewing on the Apple TV of all the pictures we took during the day. We loved the outside tables for our evening meals when nice outside and the views!!! The pool was used and enjoyed on our lazy days and beach towels were provided. The pool house with the bath was a nice luxury. Everything was clean and each morning the cleaner would come and clean every bath, the kitchen and also wash all the floors. What an extra bonus for all of us. When we had a problem with the internet connection, the manager was there to reset it in a jiffy. I highly recommend this property to anyone that is looking for a great spot in Provence. It is just half way between Avignon and Aix and close to all the small hill towns. Two of our guys even rode their rented bikes up to Mt Ventoux, just like the Tour d'France! What a thrill for them. I suggest you rent this for at least 2 weeks so you can enjoy all that the house and Provence have to offer!
