Nestled amongst the woodlands and hiking trails of vast protected parklands and yet only 9km away from Saint-Rémy de Provence, Villa Cedrat is the perfect place to stay. You can combine restful days with days out exploring historic towns and villages to make the most of Provence.
The villa is a spacious country home with historical exteriors, which are covered with fragrant wisteria. Inside, the period features such as the fireplace, the stunning antique furnishings and artwork pay homage to the age of the home and have been carefully paired with modern touches to create beautifully inviting spaces. The living and dining area is the heart of the home, with plenty of comfy sofas and a large dining table to come together over a special meal. The sleek, contemporary kitchen is just a few steps away from the dining room, so you can cook and chat with friends and family.
This villa is the ideal place to stay with a larger group as five en-suite bedrooms are available. Four bedrooms are double rooms, and there is one single bedroom. Each room has been individually designed with lovely colour palettes and in-keeping furniture and offers views over the gardens.
There are over 10,000 m2 of landscaped gardens for you to spend time in for a serene escape from busy day-to-day life. With expansive lawns in the shade of towering trees, a fountain and little seating areas dotted around, this is a wonderful space to unwind. You can spend all day outside enjoying the sunshine; take a dip in the private pool, read a good book on the outdoor sofas and then dine al-fresco as the sun goes down.
When you are in need of some groceries the nearest town is within easy reach. Saint-Remy de Provence is just 9km from the villa and has an authentic, small-town feel as it is not over-run with tourists. The town has a mixture of Renaissance and 18th-century architecture, and there are plenty of café-lined squares where you can sip a coffee and watch the world go by. The old town is where you should start for an atmospheric stroll, taking in the sights while visiting charming artisan shops selling local herbs, flowers and baked goods. The bustling markets are another place to do a spot of shopping and are great for picking up works by local artists.
The link with artists here is centuries old as the pretty town and surrounding landscapes have long attracted painters such as Vincent Van Gogh, who spent time in the town and stayed in the former monastery. Today you can visit his small, sparse rooms and look around the rest of the monastery of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole, where Van Gogh stayed during a troubled period in his life and created countless works of art.
History lovers will also be thrilled to see the ruins of the Roman city of Galum, which was built in 27BC. You can take part in numerous guided tours when visiting Saint-Remy de Provence, including historic walking tours, tours by electric bike and trips out of town to nearby vineyards.
Also nearby, you can experience the beauty of the Regional Natural Park of the Alpilles, visit other villages and towns or drive to the incredible city of Avignon, which is 28km away.

About the surrounding area of Villa CedratThis area of Provence is filled with a wide range of attractions; from hilltop villages to hiking routes through the forests, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The home is situated in an ideal position within the Regional Natural Park of the Alpilles. This vast nature reserve is a fabulous place to visit if you appreciate outdoor pursuits or even just a picnic with a lovely view. Close to the villa, you can access walking and hiking routes through ancient woodlands and onto a limestone mountain range with some small peaks perfect for novice climbers. You could also choose to see the landscape and native animals by horseback or by hiring bicycles which would be a fun day out for your whole party.
Saint-Remy de Provence is where you can find the closest amenities and is 9km from the villa. This is a picture-postcard town where you will find a wide range of cafes, shops, restaurants and a busy market selling handicrafts and local produce. Grand homes, churches and former convents line the streets of the old town, and there are some fantastic historical attractions here. Some highlights include the Roman ruins, the triumphal arch, the Van Gogh art centre and the brilliant Alpilles museum, where you can learn more about local life and traditions.
Many of these villages and towns dotted around the area have their own charm and character. Fontvieille is another delightful place to visit and is 15km away from the house. The village has been popular with visitors since the 17th century and is filled with gorgeous buildings made from local limestone. Many people visit here to see the summer home and the museum dedicated to French writer Alphonse Daudet. Daudet wrote some of his most famous works here and was greatly inspired by the scenery and the surrounding windmills. If you wish to see some of the historic windmills, including Ribet Mill, which was the one to inspire Daudet’s work, then why not follow the “path of the mills”, which is an easy walking route just outside of the town centre.
Avignon is one of the star attractions of this region and is 28km from the villa. Set off early to make the most of this enchanting city. Avignon is known for its connection to the Papacy as the Popes lived here for 68 years in the 14th century as they fled Rome's corruption. The Palais des Papes, the former Pope’s residence, is a must-see and is filled with amazing frescoes. There is much more to Avignon than the papal link, including the vast defensive walls you can walk around, the gorgeous river Rhône for afternoon boat trips and an array of museums, including a fine art museum. If you are short on time, booking a guided tour is a great way to see all the highlights with an expert guide.

Best Suited For: TeensThere are lots of places in this area that you can take the children to, including the village of Fontvieille, which is 15km away. The village is a lovely place for an afternoon walk; children will love the Roman aqueducts and pretty, historic windmills. In addition, they will surely be thrilled by a trip to Paintball Evasion, which offers a range of paintballing games for all ages and forest lasers!
To keep the little ones active, close to the villa, you will find countless walking trails, limestone rocks for climbing and the wide-open spaces of the Regional Natural Park of the Alpilles. You could pack a picnic and enjoy time together in this picturesque setting while the kids let off some steam. They can also look out for over 200 species of birds while walking.
