In a little residential hamlet on the outskirts of the village of Gordes sits Mas Noisetier. Here you can spend your days relaxing within the expansive grounds and admiring the views of the Luberon before walking just ten minutes to the nearest restaurant and enjoying an evening in one of France’s most beautiful villages.

This stone farmhouse has been lovingly renovated to combine authentic charm and modern elegance so you can expect a supremely comfortable stay. There are seven serene bedrooms, two of which can be found in the annexe building. All of them have their own en-suite bathrooms as well as air-conditioning, while three of them also boast private terraces. When it is time to all come together, perhaps over an aperitif, the charming living room, which features a huge open fireplace, grand piano and comfy sofas, is a lovely space to gather in. A bar and billiards room can also be found on the ground floor in addition to the gorgeous kitchen and two indoor dining areas, perfect for enjoying meals as a large group. For your ultimate relaxation, there is also a sauna.

8500m2 of glorious grounds awaits at Mas Noisetier. There are various outdoor seating and dining areas ideally placed for making the most of the enchanting views of the Provençal countryside. Further down the garden and surrounded by grassy lawns, cypress and olive trees and flowers, sits the stunning private pool with sun loungers and a pool house. This amount of outside space is such a treat given the house’s proximity to the local village.

Gordes is one of the most-loved villages in Provence, thanks to its winding streets and picturesque squares which open out onto phenomenal vistas of the Luberon plains. It also hosts a great market on Tuesday mornings, has a handful of excellent restaurants and useful shops and lots of fascinating historical sites. Its imposing castle, Romanesque church and the Saint-Firmin Palace, including its underground cellars, are not to be missed during your stay here.

Other nearby villages include Roussillon, Bonnieux and Ménerbes. L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, known as the ‘Venice of Provence’ is also within easy reach, while Avignon is under an hour’s drive away and is a brilliant city for a day trip.

Mas Noisetier is ideally located just under a kilometre away from the centre of Gordes and is within close proximity of some of Provence’s most picturesque towns and villages including Roussillon, Bonnieux and Ménerbes.

A 10-minute uphill walk takes you to all the restaurants, shops and amenities at the heart of Gordes. Whether you opt to stock up on groceries before returning to the house to cook up a feast or decide to dine out for the evening, having such great options just beyond your front door could not be more convenient.

Gordes’ winding alleyways, cobbled streets and ancient squares open out to stunning views of the Luberon countryside below. As you wander around and explore all of its hidden passageways and historic sites, which include the Saint-Firmin Palace, Romanesque church and the impressive 10th-century castle, it will come as no surprise to learn that it has been officially named one of France’s Most Beautiful Villages.

Its many historic attractions are not to be missed during your stay here. The Caves of Saint-Firmin Palace are particularly impressive and offer an insight into Gordes’ past. Here you can discover the village’s old cellars which are thought to date back to the 12th century and were used for olive oil production as well as escape routes and hiding places. Just outside of Gordes is the Village des Bories. This open-air museum of dry-stone huts gives a glimpse into what village life used to be like and is a must-visit for history lovers and those interested in architecture.

You are also well placed for exploring many of the other archetypal hilltop villages of the Provence region, such as Ménerbes, which inspired Peter Mayes’ ‘A Year in Provence’, and Bonnieux, another gem which has been classed as among France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.

Lourmarin, a village much-loved by French author Albert Camus, can be found a little further south, while a 45-minute drive in the other direction of the house will take you to Sault, which is renowned for its striking lavender fields.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is another incredibly pretty town to visit, especially on a Sunday morning with its famous Farmer’s market, and the small but atmospheric city of Avignon with its world famous UNESCO World Heritage sites is a brilliant place to go for a day trip.
