La Croix-Valmer has a history closely linked to the wine industry and its weekly market is one of the most famous in the Gulf of Saint Tropez and a brilliant place to pick up wine and local produce. The village also hosts many cultural events, exhibitions, concerts and festivals throughout the year and there is a small open air theatre where performances are held during the summer.

Gigaro is beautiful with its collection of coves, headlands and bays. It boasts magnificent sunsets and superb views of the Iles d’Or as well as a great selection of bars and restaurants. The nearby Plage de Jovat is fantastic for snorkelling with guided sessions available during the summer from instructors of the Service Espaces Maritimes.

The charming village of Grimaud is also worth a visit. Views from its medieval castle captivate visitors and its warren of narrow streets are lined with stairways, vaulted arches, art galleries and a mill.

Gassin is one of the ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’ and is only 6km away from Maison Sucre. It is home to the narrowest street in the world and the delicious smell of jasmine hangs in the air throughout this captivating village. The new town of Gassin, designed by Francois Spoerry, has been built below the medieval village and was awarded a prize for the best new town in Europe.

Nearby, Ramatuelle is a medieval village with a charming central square. It boasts a maze of winding streets sprinkled with fountains, pretty houses and wrought iron décor. Its ochre facades and pastel toned shutters are adorned honeysuckle and vibrant bougainvillea. The famous sandy Pampelonne beaches are close to this village so don’t forget to stop there too.

Saint Tropez is synonymous with Brigitte Bardot, films, and its vibrant jet-set scene. Once a sleepy fishing village, it is now a favourite destination for the rich and famous with its buzzing harbour, glamorous festivities, impressive citadel, a prestigious Polo Club and a 5km sandy beach. The Old Town of Saint Tropez is a brilliant place to wander. The 18th century Église Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption towers over the terracotta rooftops and the Musée d’Annonciade is the oldest modern art museum in France, dating back to 1922. The town is also a shopper’s paradise, packed with trendy boutiques, shoe shops, chocolate shops, antique emporiums and art galleries. If you visit on a Tuesday or Saturday morning, you can visit the wonderful open-air market stalls at Place des Lices where you can stock up on freshly baked bread and delicious local produce.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

La Croix Valmer has a bustling market where children will enjoy choosing what they would like to eat and picking up some souvenirs. During the summer months, there is also entertainment and performances on offer.

The surrounding hills are also a brilliant for families that enjoy activities in the great outdoors including hiking and cycling. The national park is rich in wildlife and little ones can look out for their favourite animals. It is also possible to explore the stunning landscapes on horseback with the riding centre near Grimaud.

There are also wonderful sandy beaches within very easy reach of Maison Sucre. Gigaro and Debarquement beaches are well organised and have cafés and restaurants. A little further away, the Pampelonne beaches are exceptional.

The thrilling Azur Park in Gassin boasts more than thirty five rides and attractions including trampolines, carousels, toboggans, bumper boats, river slides, 5D cinema and some extreme attractions for teens and older. Alternatively, just a little north of Sainte Tropez is Aqualand Sainte-Maxime with slides, rides and fun pools for the whole family including rapids, kamikaze slides, colour splash, the flying boat, magic slide and crazy race.

In Saint Tropez, the butterfly museum La Maison des Papillons has more than 35,000 butterflies from all over the world.

Another popular excursion is taking the ferry to the island of Porquerolles. This crescent shaped island has a charming village at its centre with some fabulous restaurants and bike rental. The best way to explore Porquerolles is hiking or cycling on the marked trails of the national park. On the southern side, the coast is made up of steep cliffs and secluded creeks while the northern side is a little like a Caribbean Island with fine sandy beaches and turquoise water.
