In the Maures hills, La Belle Hacienda is such a welcoming and stylish villa with a beautiful garden and swimming pool. It is on a hilltop just 1km from La Garde-Freinet and half an hour from the allure of Saint-Tropez.

As you relax outside, gaze towards the valley in this picture-perfect region of southern France. The natural setting of this hacienda-style villa is remarkable, surrounded by mature trees and an idyllic lavender-filled garden. Stroll down the steps towards the swimming pool, which can be heated on request, then enjoy a game of table tennis before discovering a quiet spot for a chilled glass of local Côtes de Provence.

Dining al-fresco is a joy on one of the two terraces, making the most of feasts prepared in the elegant kitchen inside. The modern open-plan lounge and dining area is just as impressive with wide doors framing the garden views whilst the fireplace adds a touch of Provençal character. There is air-conditioning throughout and all three double bedrooms feature an en suite bathroom.

La Garde-Freinet is a charming medieval village with a twice-weekly market (look out for chestnut products), artisan shops and restaurant terraces overlooking the Maures landscapes. There are of course many wonderful walking and hiking trails from the village as well as horse-riding and mountain biking opportunities nearby.

Winding through the forests, flower-filled Grimaud is 10km by car with its art galleries and gastronomic restaurants, a picture-perfect village with glorious views of Saint-Tropez bay. Continue onwards towards the canals of Port Grimaud, the lovely beach at Plage de Grimaud or the colourful fishing houses and high-end boutiques of Saint-Tropez.

La Belle Hacienda is located just outside the characterful village of La Garde-Freinet in the Maures hills of the Var department, 16km from Port Grimaud  and around half an hour from Saint-Tropez and Sainte-Maxime.

The nearest airport is Toulon Hyères (56km) whilst Nice and Marseille Airports are also worth considering. If travelling by train, there are direct TGV services from Paris Gare de Lyon to Les Arcs-Draguignan (25km).

The villa enjoys a rural setting on a hilltop surrounded by mature trees and only a small handful of neighbours. La Garde-Freinet (1km) is a pretty medieval village, home to restaurants, inviting shops, a couple of grocery stores and a twice-weekly market showcasing some of the region’s gastronomic delights. This part of the Côte d’Azur hinterland is ideal for hikes, mountain biking and horse-riding, all spectacular ways to appreciate the beautiful surroundings.

Following the winding roads passing chestnut and oak forests, reach the picture-perfect village of Grimaud (10km) where you can admire glorious views of Saint-Tropez bay. It’s a delightul hilltop village with a rich heritage alongside a weekly market, excellent restaurants and little art galleries.  

Port Grimaud (16km) is another highlight of this region, a joy to explore by boat with its canals and colourful houses – look out for the Monday evening market that takes place in the height of the summer. Plage de Grimaud is a fantastic beach with watersports whilst further along the coast is the charming seaside resort of Sainte-Maxime (20km).

From Sainte-Maxime or Port Grimaud you can catch a summer ferry across to Saint-Tropez (22km), a good way to avoid the summer traffic. The former fishing village exudes both character and glamour with its medieval lanes, boutiques, bars, restaurants and impressive marina. South of the town, Plage de Pampelonne (26km), best reached by car, is a vast sandy beach with exclusive beach clubs and a range of watersports.

Driving north, discover a different side of the Côte d’Azur hinterland as you come across the natural beauty of the Argens River, ideal for canoeing and kayaking, or sample wines at prestigious châteaux near Vidauban (20km). Lorgues (31km) hosts one of the Var’s best Provençal markets on a Tuesday morning.

La Belle Hacienda offers you the opportunity to stay in the beautiful Maures hills, close to a characterful French village, whilst still being near all the family-friendly activities by the coast.

Discover hilly walks/hikes, horse-riding and mountain biking throughout this rural part of the Côte d’Azur hinterland.  

The nearest beach can be found at Plage de Grimaud (16km), a gorgeous sandy bay with seasonal water-based activities. Sainte-Maxime is a little further with its ‘Famille Plus’ designation whilst Saint Tropez’ iconic Plage de Pampelonne is further south and ideal for watersport enthusiasts.

Enjoy a boat tour around the canals of Port Grimaud, known as the ‘Little Venice of Provence’ or catch a ferry from Sainte-Maxime/Port Grimaud towards Saint-Tropez’ historic centre for a lovely day out.

Families can also experience go-karting, a waterpark, mini-golf and a summer evening amusement park near Gassin and Grimaud. Furthermore, there is a tree-top adventure centre near both Grimaud and Sainte-Maxime.

In the other direction, come across canoeing and kayaking opportunities along the Argens River near Vidauban (20km), treetop trails at Provence Aventure and the Drop-in Dracenie Water Jump Parc, a seasonal inflatable course on the Argens. Animal lovers note that ZooParc Du Cannet Des Maures is within half an hour by car.
