Overview
In the sunny region of Charente, close to the border with Dordogne, Le Manoir Des Pineaux allows you to experience laid back French living in beautiful surroundings whether a family getaway, foodie retreat with friends or an intimate wedding close to historic market towns and wonderful landscapes.
As soon as the current owners approached the driveway of this 18th century home, they knew it was just perfect for them. Surrounded by open French countryside with such calming views, the project has been a labour of love and what they have created is simply stunning. Le Manoir Des Pineaux effortlessly combines tradition with contemporary elegance and it’s obvious that the owners have a keen eye for aesthetic style.
With five individually designed bedrooms featuring hand-made headboards and Egyptian cotton bedlinen, most with king or super king-sized beds, guests can soak up the relaxed vintage vibe whilst making the most of the glorious scenery. Then there’s the cosy lounge with its log-burner and adjoining library, the bright dining room and fantastically equipped French kitchen; every corner of this manoir has been restored with so much love and flair.
Another brilliant feature is the huge barn, not just a superb spot for joyful meals beneath the characterful wood beams, but also a place to kick back with a film on the 200-inch screen, chill out with the PS4 or challenge someone to a game of pool, darts or table tennis.
Outside you can admire the delicate pink roses trailing by the kitchen door, the hand-painted blue shuttered windows and the inviting swimming pool overlooking the countryside. Poolside dining is so special by the outdoor kitchen, especially in the evening as the area is atmospherically lit up. A barbecue and custom-built pizza oven await – the owners are brilliant cooks and can arrange imaginative pizza nights or barbecue feasts so you can just sit back with your glass of rosé wine as the sun sets.
Head out for bike rides or long walks from your doorstep or simply stroll down the country lane to the local village with its boulangerie and well-regarded restaurant. Discover delightful Farmer’s markets, including one in the village on a Friday morning, then enjoy a picnic by the Dronne river just a short drive away. Spend time in picture-perfect villages from idyllic Aubeterre-sur-Dronne only 15km away to enchanting Brantôme, known as ‘Venice of the Périgord Vert’, the ideal spot for canoeing and lunch.
Vibrant and historic Angoulême with its foodie scene, comic museum and classic car race is also within easy reach or explore further afield to experience the charm of Périgueux or the wine-tasting of Saint-Émilion and Bordeaux. You could even dip your feet in the ocean in Royan or Lacanau before returning to the calmness of your inspiring and welcoming holiday home.

Further amenities including a large supermarket, shops and restaurants are in Montmoreau-Saint-Cybard, just over a 10-minute drive away – visit on a Saturday morning for its lovely market. Trains depart Montmoreau towards Libourne or Angoulême.
There is a good range of other restaurants in local villages around a 10 to 15-minute drive away as well as many walking and cycling opportunities straight from manoir. Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

· How long have you owned the property?
Since June 2019.
· What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
As soon as approached the drive we knew it was the house for us. It had everything we wanted, space, calmness, gardens to explore, views of the countryside – a very special and undiscovered holiday home to escape to!
· Are there any interesting stories in its history?
In the adjoining barn there is a large nut press in the corner, we’ve also found four beautiful cartwheels and lots of old animal equipment - we can only assume it was the main farm for the village. Its original name was Beaulieu, meaning beautiful place, we like to think it was the central hub for all the village and we can imagine everyone gathering in the barn to enjoy a decadent hunters feast!
· Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
Not yet!!
· For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…
- Must do?
Visit Aubeterre Sur Dronne and wander its cobbled streets sipping a pineau in the main square.
- Must eat?
Our favourite restaurant is Le Bruleau Charentais – they cook your steak on an open fire, with rugged tables it’s certainly an experience!
- Must see?
The blue lakes of guizengeard, wander around this beautiful lake.
· What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
We are very rural, but with plenty of nearby amenities (supermakets and pharmacies only a 10-minute drive away) a car is essential for during your stay.

Wonderful - we will be back!
We had an excellent week with friends at Le Manoir des Pineaux! We were very well hosted by the owners. The house is beautiful, very nicely furnished, the rooms are large and comfortable.
Everything was impeccably clean. The garden is splendid with a lovely view of the surrounding countryside, plenty of space and the pool is perfect with deckchairs for everyone. We also spent wonderful evenings on the terrace and in the barn with cinema and games. The owners cooked for us during our stay too, a huge barbecue by the pool, everything was delicious! We will be back!

Contemporary yet charming house
We very much enjoyed our stay at Le Manoir des Pineaux. The house is contemporary and clean whilst keeping its charm. The beds were very comfy with gorgeous Egyptian cotton bedding. The living space is great for entertaining with a large dining room, lounge and terrace. The swimming pool is fantastic, complete with a beautiful view. The barn was a great unexpected extra to the house, we enjoyed many games of pool and pingpong after dinner. James and Lauren were great hosts. A fantastic place to stay with friends or family.
