Down a long driveway in the middle of 50 hectares of parkland, you will find Domaine Des Sangliers, your own picture book 15th century castle. With so much wooded countryside surrounding you, it’s hard to imagine that you are only a 20-minute drive from the lovely town of Bergerac on the banks of the Dordogne with its famous Maison des Vins.
Inside the château are vast and remarkable living areas with stunning ceilings, floors and fireplaces, the centuries merging as traditional and modern blend beautifully alongside the pleasing furnishings and artwork. It’s not all history and romance here - there is a billiards table in the second living room, the modern fully equipped kitchen has high-end appliances and the four upstairs bedroom suites are very spacious and comfortable, three with dressing rooms and all with luxurious bathrooms.
Step outside to an expansive area of paths, seating areas, clipped lawns and lines of small cypress trees, so typical of a formal French garden and with a fabulous 30m heated infinity pool tucked away down a few pretty stone steps. There are wonderful far-reaching views, from inside and out, across the estate’s expansive parkland and the countryside beyond.
There are other activities on offer chez vous, a helicopter trip, yoga, spa treatments, cooking classes and sight-seeing tours. When you are ready to leave all this comfort and beauty, head to one of the fine restaurants in Bergerac, taste some wine at the nearby Château de Montbazillac or sample some of the region’s delicious black truffles in Périgueux.
There are so many idyllic villages across this region including the Plus Beaux Villages of Monflanquin and Monpazier, medieval Issigeac and the UNESCO world heritage site of Saint-Émilion, east of Bordeaux and in the heart of one of the most famous wine regions in the world. When the sea beckons, the oysters of the wild Atlantic coast at Cap Ferret are just a day trip away.
Closer to home, there is just so much to discover in this beautiful region renowned for its gastronomy, vineyards, caves, castles, markets and festivals in its traditional towns and medieval bastide villages.

Location
About the surrounding area of Domaine Des SangliersDomaine Des Sangliers is in a rural setting within the Dordogne department and Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of southwestern France between Bergerac and Périgueux.
There is so much to discover in this beautiful region renowned for its gastronomy, vineyards, caves, castles, markets and festivals in its beautiful towns and bastide villages. Bergerac (20km) is a fantastic market town on the northern bank of the Dordogne River. The old town has some characterful squares and medieval streets with high end restaurants and boutiques.
The renowned Maison de Vins in Bergerac has a permanent exhibition for wine enthusiasts and hosts occasional summer concerts in its beautiful cloisters. Buy local produce in the food markets on Wednesday and Saturdays mornings before visiting the Château de Monbazillac, just south of Bergerac, to buy some fine bottles of their golden sweet wines.
Périgueux (38km) is another fine town with an important historical heritage, situated on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route and with a Byzantine style Cathedral, a UNESCO world heritage site. Dordogne is synonymous with fine food and drink and Périgueux is full of specialist shops from boulangeries to fromageries and lively squares with plenty of restaurants.
Stop off at one of the nice tea-shops in the charming medieval village of Issigeac on the hour’s journey southwards to one of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, Monflanquin (65km), which overlooks the Haut Agenais region and Lède Valley from its hillside position. This small medieval village has picturesque pedestrian streets crossed by small bridges, a Gothic cathedral and an interactive museum relating to the medieval towns built in the region during the 13th and 14th centuries.
Montpazier (45km) is another Plus Beau Village worth visiting, a very old and beautifully preserved bastide town with a magnificent square as well as lovely shops. Head south eastwards into the Dordogne to more gorgeous villages such as Beynac-et-Cazenac and Domme.
Wine enthusiasts don’t need an introduction to the world heritage site of Saint-Émilion (88km), east of Bordeaux in the heart of the famous wine region, one of the greatest in the world. This picturesque town has attracted visitors for decades and thousands of hectares of vineyards surround the picturesque medieval village.
Nearer home there is is a 9 hole golf course at Château les Merles 15km away - the whole region is a paradise for nature and sports lovers offering a choice of so many outdoor activities such as tennis, horse riding, hiking, mountain biking and canoeing on the Dordogne and Vézère rivers.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe whole region offers so many outdoor activities for children as well as caves, castles and bastides to discover. There is horse riding, hiking, mountain biking and older children and teens will love the waterparks and even a hot air balloon ride.
In Bergerac there is bowling, paintballing, a waterpark, a go-karting circuit as well as a large swimming lake called the Lac de Pombonne near the centre of town.
The Château de Bridoire south of Bergerac is a fun place to visit with children with a large games room in the stables and a mysterious valley with all kinds of mysteries and challenges.
There are tree-top adventures around 20km at AccroZarbres as well as canoeing and watersports on the Dordogne or the Vézère rivers.
Take a day trip to one of the many family attractions near Le Bugue and stop at Limeuil on the way home for a paddle in the Dordogne, where there are beaches and shallow water at the edge.
