Overview

Pool Villa/House Beach Nearby Ideal for Kids

Encircled by pretty umbrella pine trees on the pine-clad peninsula below, which frames the view of the dazzling blue sea below, you will find Villa U Paese, a charming home sleeping up to six guests only 4km from the famous Plage de Palombaggia.

This three-bedroom home bursting with character is a restored, traditional Corsican stone bergerie, which is packed with original features such as wooden beams, rustic stone work and terracotta tiles. Alongside these quality features, a neutral colour palette and little details such as local driftwood decorations make for a cosy, welcoming space full of charm.

Laid out on one level, there is a bright and airy living room with sofas and armchairs gathered around a decorative fireplace. Next to this room you will find the kitchen which is fully-fitted and has everything you need for preparing meals for your party.

You will no doubt want to dine al-fresco on the terrace and enjoy the fragrance of the Corsican maquis, and when you step outdoors you will discover a beautifully landscaped garden with a sea view. In the garden there is a private swimming pool which has a unique shape and is surrounded by trees and Mediterranean plants. There are two different dining tables to eat meals at as well as deck chairs around the pool.

The nearby hamlets have some excellent restaurants (one is just a short walk away) and a few shops, but for a much larger selection you should head in to Porto Vecchio which is just 10km away. Porto Vecchio is an atmospheric and historic place, with its terrace cafes, boutiques and artisan shops to pick up local produce and gifts for friends back at home. When it comes to choosing somewhere to eat in the evenings you will find everything from gourmet eateries to seafood restaurants in the old-town, by the harbour or on the many world-renowned beaches around Porto Vecchio.

From Villa U Paese you will be lucky enough to be on route to glorious Palombaggia Beach, just 10 minutes away by car. Santa Giulia is a little further on whilst both south and north of Porto Vecchio you are surrounded by idyllic bays.

Further afield there are many more towns worth visiting and extraordinary sites of natural beauty. The stunning, cliff-top, ancient town of Bonifacio is only 34km away from the bergerie and the mountain villages of the Alta Rocca, the Ospedale Forest and the dramatic peaks of Bavella are all accessible for days out and hiking in the mountains.

Villa U Paese is located within a private secured residence with neighbouring villas just over 4km from one of Corsica’s finest beaches. With villages, historic towns and natural attractions close by, this is a delightful base when visiting this gorgeous island.

When on holiday in southern Corsica, you are sure to be looking out for some amazing beaches to visit. Plage de Palombaggia (4.5km) can be reached within a 10-minute drive and is such an idyllic spot with sandy shores and crystal-clear sea - head there early in the height of the summer to avoid the many visitors. Look out for water-based activities and idyllic summer restaurants.

There are further beautiful beaches heading south, such as Plage de Tamaricciu (5km) and Santa Giulia (13km) whilst other gems north of Porto Vecchio include Cala Verde (13km) and Plage de Saint-Cyprien (21km) with its calm, turquoise waters for swimming as well as seasonal watersports and beachside restaurants.

The coast of Corsica is beautiful, especially when viewed from the sea. One lovely way to see the stunning shoreline is by hiring kayaks and exploring by rocky inlets, beaches and monuments along the coast such as historic watch towers. One route that you can travel by kayak is from Cala Verde to Marina di Fiori which is not too far or carry on up to Cala Rossa if you are experienced on the water.

The interior of Corsica is also well worth exploring and you can follow paths inland all the way from the coast, through the dense pine forests and amongst the iconic maquis. These trails can be accessed on foot, by bike or on an organised horse trek which will offer amazing views of the landscape.

When you wish to do a spot of shopping or dine out in the evening then you can choose from shops and eateries which are located in the small hamlets a short drive from the villa or head out to nearby Porto Vecchio (10km). There are several terrific summer restaurants along the coast from fine-dining establishments to small French bistros. Hôtel Casadelmar and Hôtel Belvédère are especially excellent places to eat in high-end surroundings - book well in advance!

For a larger range of restaurants, pay a visit to Porto Vecchio, the largest town in southern Corsica. Porto Vecchio has plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from and boasts a vibrant nightlife if you fancy having a few cocktails and going out dancing. The town also has a historic old town which you can explore, with a pretty harbour and a staggering 16th-century fortress.

If you would like to take an organised boat trip to the unspoilt Lavezzi Islands you can board a boat in Porto Vecchio or Bonifacio. There are a few different tours available, from short trips around the caves to full-day trips stopping off at a some of the islands with lunch included.

Region

From the family-friendly beaches of Porto Vecchio to the dramatic mountain peaks of the Col de Bavella, the southern region of the Mediterranean’s fourth largest island offers you the diverse landscapes, historic towns and iconic coastline that Corsica is so famous for.

Starting in the south-eastern corner of the island, the coastline is truly impressive with turquoise coloured water and soft sand often backed by beachside restaurants and shady trees. Embrace the scent of salt air and pines at Plage de Pinarellu with its crystal-clear sea or spend the day at Plage de Saint Cyprien famed for its gently-shelving shores and summer watersports. On the other side of Porto Vecchio bay are the two famous beaches of Palombaggia and Santa Giulia – head out early to avoid the many visitors who flock to these photogenic beaches in the height of the summer. Further south, Plage de Rondinara is yet another idyllic bay with shallow clear water and fine white sand.

Experience the glamour of Porto Vecchio, once a historic harbour and citadel, now a vibrant town increasingly loved by jet-setters who appreciate its character and natural beauty. It’s a joy to potter around Porto Vecchio’s old town in the evening with boutiques, bars and a range of restaurants for every taste (seafood, pizzas, salads as well as more traditional Corsican dishes).

The jewel of southern Corsica is arguably the exquisite town of Bonifacio with its historic citadel perched above dramatic limestone cliffs and the most incredible vistas of the sea. The citadel’s warren of medieval lanes will enchant you and there is a wealth of restaurants to choose from showcasing some of Corsica’s delicious cuisine – imagine lamb and rosemary, wild boar casserole with chestnuts, cannelloni au brocciu and Mediterranean seafood. Boats from the marina whisk you away to the Lavezzi Islands for more serene beauty. Meanwhile, keen golfers will already be familiar with the prestigious Golf de Spérone in a spectacular setting with views towards Sardinia.

Heading towards the south-west of the island, pass the wilder shores of the Figari coastline (Plage de la Tonnara is a  favourite) and venture through the mountainous landscapes of forest, vineyards and olive groves towards the mountain village of Sartène with its charming squares, restaurant terraces and wonderful market on a Saturday morning. Don’t miss pristine bays along the Valinco Gulf such as Campomoro and Porto Pollo as well as the pre-historic menhirs of Filitosa, before eventually arriving into the handsome city of Ajaccio, birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte.

The rugged interiors of southern Corsica are also not to missed from the pine and beech forests of the Forêt de l'Ospédale near Porto Vecchio to the mountain village of Zonza and the incredible Col de Bavella peaks. Discover walking trails, hiking routes, rock-climbing, canyoning  and other adventures amidst the awe-inspiring scenery of Corse-du-Sud.

Whether you choose a rural bergerie near Porto Vecchio, a more contemporary abode overlooking the sea or a beautiful getaway with mountain views, Oliver’s Travels is proud to offer a range of hand-picked villas in southern Corsica.

Merci !

  • Stunning, the photographs do not do it justice

    Created on 31/05/2022

We stayed at Villa U Paese for one week at the end of May. This villa is stunning, the photographs do not do it justice. The interior is well finished with a large kitchen/living area and two bedrooms with exceptionally comfortable beds. The surrounding area is very quiet and secluded so lots of privacy. The front area for outdoor cooking is a very cool feature which we used every night it’s a real joy to cook and eat Al fresco. The pool is a fantastic size and perfect for that refreshing dip. It also has a lovely waterfall to keep you utterly zen. The decking is perfect for lounging in the sun or eating at the bistro overlook the bay below down to the lighthouse La Chiappa. The view is one of this villas trump cards it’s stunning and the sun rises over it everyday! The team are very helpful and available for advice/assistance at a moments notice. In all if you want a clean high standard of accommodation in Corsica with stunning views and amenities do not hesitate to book this villa you will not be disappointed.
