Sip a glass of pinot noir from the nearby Côte Chalonnaise vineyards as you gaze out over the village from your beautiful terrace. Manoir Iris is a grand and characterful village house in an ideal setting for exploring the Saône-et-Loire region of Burgundy.

As you arrive at the manoir’s gates you will immediately feel a sense of history around you. Step inside and be greeted by old-world charme in this traditional French abode. Relax in the living room with original features, create a feast in the old-fashioned kitchen with its original chimney and traditional wood burner and then feast in ornate surroundings in the dining room. Six bedrooms grace the three splendid floors, allowing ample space for family or friends to stay in this fine home.

Outside, admire the mature gardens with summer flowers such as irises and roses and spend warm afternoons by the heated swimming pool. As the sun downs in the evening, enjoy a glass of sparkling Crémant de Bourgogne before dining al-fresco with more fine wines from the region.

In the village itself, just a few minutes walk away, you’ll find a number of wineries as well as a restaurant, small supermarket and bakery. You’re also just a 10-minute drive from the lovely small town of Chagny which is famous for its Sunday morning market, known to be one of the best in the region. Food-lovers must make sure they reserve a table at Chagny’s famous 100-year old restaurant, Maison Lameloise, which boasts three Michelin stars.

As well as the local Côte Chalonnaise appellation, some of Burgundy’s best wines from the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune region can also be tried. The villages and vineyards of the famous wine-road, Route des Grands Crus, are within a short drive such as Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. Not forgetting Burgundy’s wine-capital, Beaune (24km) with its incredible historical buildings, wonderful restaurants and numerous wineries.

For a change of scene, hire bikes and follow the picturesque towpath by the Canal du Centre in Chagby or simply stop for a picnic there or by the local village river. There’s also wonderful walking, horse-riding and even golf near Beaune in a beautiful setting in this captivating part of Burgundy.

Manoir Iris is in the Saône-et-Loire department of Burgundy, in a small village just opposite a church with the idyllic sounds of its ringing bells.

You can wander into the heart of the village in minutes with its bakery, small supermarket, restaurant and tennis court. There are historical sites to admire or you may simply prefer to explore the narrow streets, relax by the banks of the river or walk out to the 12th century chateau for a guided tour. This area is also known for its Côte Chalonnaise and there are many opportunities to sample the wine in the many wineries in the village and surrounding region.

The small but delightful market town of Chagny (5.5km) is only a short drive away. Head there on a Sunday morning to experience the brilliant weekly market, known to be the best in the region. There are also further restaurants, shops and larger supermarkets in the town. Food-lovers will especially appreciate Maison Lameloise, a 100-year old restaurant which boasts 3 Michelin stars.

It’s a town with some interesting historical features with its 13th century church a listed monument. This region is popular with nature lovers as well - if you love walking or cycling, head to the town’s canal, Burgundy’s Canal du Centre, within a short stroll where you can follow picturesque towpaths and there is also some fantastic fishing nearby.

A short drive north (or train ride from Chagny) brings you to the famous capital of this wine-producing region, Beaune (24km), where you can visit the amazing Hospices de Beaune, one of France’s most stunning historical buildings. Don’t miss the great market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and food-lovers should also try and get to one of the many Michelin starred establishments in the town and surrounding wine villages.

As well as the Côte Chalonnaise wineries in your local village, you are also near Burgundy’s famous wine road, Route des Grands Crus, which includes places such as Puligny-Montrachet (12km), Pommard (20km), Volnay (20km), Meursault (16km) as well as idyllic vineyards across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune region where wine tastings can of course be arranged.

Furthermore, just 50-minutes by car is Autun (45km), founded by the Romans and full of historical sights, including a beautiful cathedral in the old town as well as a lovely central square which hosts a market on a Wednesday and Friday morning. There are hot-air balloon rides leaving from Autun, an amazing way to see some of the breath-taking vistas around you.

Dijon (70km), about an hour away (or forty minutes by train from Chagny), is a historical town with a delightful old quarter and of course famous mustard stores whilst Cluny (55km) to the south is a stunning medieval village most famous for its abbey, a National Monument of France, once the largest in the western world.

Within an hour you can also be entering the incredible Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan where you can discover woodlands, streams and waterfalls, gentle rolling hills and hidden villages. This region is perfect for hikers, horse-riders and cyclists and there’s a great variety of watersports on one of the lakes or rivers.
