In a lovely setting overlooking vineyards, in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, Château Cote D’Or is a beautifully restored family home in an ideal location for exploring this stunning part of Burgundy.

The family château dates back to the 15th century and has recently undergone a remarkable transformation which has resulted in a charming place to stay. The limestone walls and large oak door remind you of the château’s rich past, yet the home now has a contemporary yet classic feel. 21st-century features include Apple TV and an amazingly well-equipped kitchen, perfect for keen chefs to create a Burgundian feast. Each of the six double bedrooms has an ensuite bath or shower room whilst kids will adore the spacious dorm-style room under the eaves at the very top.

Outside you can gaze at the views of the vineyards as you enjoy leisurely meals al-fresco or relax on the terrace, perhaps drinking one of the most famous white wines of the world which is produced in the surrounding vines. On cooler evenings, dine by candle-light in the elegant dining room, followed by board games or films in the cosy TV den.

Here you are in the heart of the Côte de Beaune’s wine region, with many wineries and a couple of restaurants, including one with a Michelin star, within walking distance. Indeed, private wine tastings can even be arranged in the château’s own wine cellar or head to some of France’s most famous vineyards so near.

Follow the Burgundy wine road, Route des Grands Crus, visiting idyllic villages such as Pommard, Volnay and Meursault, all within ten minutes. The most famous wine-town of all, Beaune, is 13km away where you can admire the stunning historical buildings, enjoy the atmospheric market and try one of the Michelin-starred establishments. Better still, head to Chagny, only 5km away, to dine in its 100-year old restaurant with 3 Michelin stars!

There’s also cycling along nearby canals, horse-riding in the beautiful countryside and hot-air balloons over stunning landscapes. This is Burgundy at its very best and Château Cote D’Or offers a warm and inviting home from which to enjoy this fantastic region.

Château Cote D’Or is situated in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune wine-growing region, in the charming village of Puligny-Montrachet.

Puligny-Montrachet is famous for its excellent wines, especially four of its grand crus. There is a lovely wine trail to follow and it goes without saying that there are numerous wine-makers in the village where you can sample wines from the surrounding vineyards. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance as well, one boasting a Michelin star.

Puligny-Montrachet is part of the famous wine road, Route des Grands Crus, which includes other wonderful villages such as Pommard (9km), Volnay (10km), Meursault (5km) as well as idyllic vineyards across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune region where wine tastings can of course be arranged.

Chagny is only 5km away where you will find further facilities such as supermarkets and further places to eat. This delightful town has a wonderful market on a Sunday morning and the town features a 100-year old restaurant with 3 Michelin stars! If you love walking or cycling, head to the town’s lovely canal with its gentle towpaths and fantastic fishing nearby.

The capital of this wine-producing region is the famous town of Beaune (13km), where you can visit the amazing Hospices de Beaune, one of France’s most stunning historical buildings. Don’t miss the great market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and food-lovers should also try and get to one of the many Michelin starred establishments in the town and surrounding villages.

Furthermore, just 40-minutes by car is the fascinating town of Autun (40km), founded by the Romans and full of historical sights, including a beautiful cathedral in the old town as well as a lovely central square which hosts a market on a Wednesday and Friday morning. There are hot-air balloon rides leaving from Autun, an amazing way to see some of the breath-taking vistas around you.

Dijon (60km), just under an hour away (or forty minutes by train from Chagny), is a historical town with a delightful old quarter and of course famous mustard stores whilst Cluny (65km) to the south is a stunning medieval village most famous for its abbey, a National Monument of France, once the largest in the western world.

Within an hour you can also be entering the incredible Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan where you can discover woodlands, streams and waterfalls, gentle rolling hills and hidden villages. This region is perfect for hikers, horse-riders and cyclists and there’s a great variety of watersports on one of the lakes or rivers.

  • Fantastic!

    on 23/08/2023

Chateau Cote D'Or in Puligny-Montrachet is a fantastic place, in the middle of the most exclusive wine region in the world! In the beautifully renovated house you will experience a thousand years of history. Antique floors and ceilings with beautiful old beams. Beautifully renovated, so that the wonderful rooms are all equipped with modern conveniences. There is a sunny spacious kitchen to prepare delicious meals to enjoy together. There is a beautiful grand piano in the living room, so you can musically bring the entire castle to life. In the area everything revolves around very nice wine. You can enjoy that. And we also enjoyed the beautiful cycling routes and the nice villages and towns in the area. And then there is the wonderful private swimming pool and the attractive wine cellar. A super place for a great holiday! We would love to come back again!

  • Extraordinary chateau

    on 19/07/2022

What an extraordinary chateau! The oldest in the village and right in the centre of a working vineyard. Views to swoon over from every window. The chateau was large enough for our family to spread out as well as a fabulous kitchen where we spent most of our time. Pool/wifi/laundry. Lots of steps so might not be best for those who can't climb too easily but all of us found our stride to get up and down and the children thought the top room was the best thing ever! Car is a must to get to and around Puligny-Montrachet and the surrounding areas.

  • Amazing stay
