Overview

Pool Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach

Designed by prestigious Bordeaux architects and constructed from wood, steel and concrete, this extraordinary and very contemporary residence sits grandly in a lush, private garden with a long, heated swimming pool.

Situated on a hill in a peaceful residential area of Arcachon, the villa is easily accessible to the town and large bay which is a paradise for beach lovers, gastronomers and wine aficionados as well as those who simply enjoy a gentle stroll, shop or boat trip. Before you go out to explore, have fun finding your way around your new home and enjoying the opulence and modernity of its furnishings and facilities.

The open plan living-dining room has a window view of a green swathe of bamboo, as lush as the backdrop to a Gaugin painting. Doors from this space open onto the stunning alfresco dining area and pool terraces. The first bedroom is on the ground floor with the other three bedrooms up the impressive stairs. The master bedroom is particularly spectacular, with its own dressing room and the glass sided bathroom in the centre of the room. Its spacious balcony overhangs the terrace and pool and has a view of the gardens and surrounding neighbourhood.

It may be difficult to leave all this luxury behind but the many joys of Arcachon are to be found across this region. You could start by visiting one of the loveliest of Arcachon’s many long, gentle sandy beaches, just 2km away, with fine sand, a lovely promenade, cycle lanes and grassy lawns beneath the area’s iconic pines. Relax under your parasol and look across the Bassin d’Arcachon towards Cap Ferret, a popular residence for celebrities and well worth a visit. Don't miss out The Dune du Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe, is only 9km away by bike.

The tourist heart of the town has the main beach, plenty of wide shopping streets as well as a casino and many cafes and restaurants. Order oysters, fish and seafood harvested from the bay. Walk eastwards towards the port and fishing area, look at the heritage vessels or head away from the coast towards the residential Ville d’Hiver and look at the eccentric 19th century villas, particularly prevalent in this quarter.

The energetic can explore the walking trails, hire a bike, sailing boat, canoe or play golf nearby. Or spend a relaxing day on an oyster tasting and wine tour and visit the chateaux of the Medoc wine region. If you find yourself missing city cultural pursuits, take the 52 minute train journey to Bordeaux and spend the day visiting its gothic cathedral, art museums and public gardens.

Situated on a hill in a peaceful residential area of Arcachon, the villa is accessible to the town (3km, partially hilly) and beach (1.6km) and only a 10-15 minute walk to restaurants, a bakery and a little further to a supermarket. Hire bikes, scooters or a car to make the most of this lovely local area.

Arcachon is a seaside town in the Gironde department in Aquitaine, situated in a large sheltered bay, with parts of the Landes Forest as a feature of the landscape. It’s a popular swimming destination on the Atlantic coast, with a mild climate and wide sandy beaches. Its four districts are named after the seasons and have distinct characteristics.

Ville d’Été (3km) is the tourist heart of the town, with a fine sandy main beach, promenade, casino, shops and many cafes and restaurants.

Ville d’Hiver is known for its Arcachonnaise buildings, rather eccentrically designed 19th century villas set in landscaped gardens on wide pine-shaded streets. Visit Villa Bremontier (1 allée Brémontier) with its tower and large covered balconies, designed so that tuberculosis patients could sit outside and breathe in the sea-air.

Ville d’Automne features a large port and fishing centre. Book a boat tour around the Bay or to Cap Ferrat or visit the heritage quay to see the bay’s traditional boats. If you’re up early, arrive by 6.45am and watch the fishing catch being brought in or even book a trip with the fishermen to watch the oysters being caught. Take a trip to the Oyster Museum at Gujan- Mestras (11km) where you can learn about the industry.

Ville de Printemps is a largely residential area with a beachfront lined by a shady promenade. It is here that you will find Arcachon’s loveliest beach, Plage Pereire, which boasts three miles of fine sand. Sit back under your parasol and look across the Bassin d’Arcachon towards Cap Ferret, a popular residence for celebrities.

Arcachon has five main beaches. Most of the town’s beaches are calm and ideal for families, depending on the tide, but you only have to travel a short distance to reach the wildness of the Atlantic coast with its surf beaches and schools.

Exploring on foot or bicycle is a great way to see the area. There are more than 200km of cycle paths and plenty of places to hire bikes. Travel beneath pine trees, along coastal paths, oyster flats and salt marshes. The Dune du Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe, is only 9km away by bike. Hire an electric scooter to explore the town and the forest trails.

There are a number of ferries which cross the bay including the Transbassin which runs all year to Cap Ferret. Those with nautical skills can hire a boat from the sailing club at Pyla sur Mer (3km).

Golf International d’Arcachon‘s (2km) 18 holes course has several water hazards and both hilly and flat fairways.

For a gentle stroll, relax in Parc Mauresque (2.5km), a peaceful five hectare park with a children’s playground and splendid views of the town and Arcachon bay.

If you miss city culture and need a break from outdoor pursuits, take the 52 minute train journey to the city of Bordeaux and spend the day visiting its gothic cathedral, art museums and public gardens.

Sheltered in a bay, most of Arcachon’s beaches are gentle, sandy and ideal for families. The main town beach (3.5km) has calm water, lifeguards from mid-June to mid-September and beach clubs for children. Watch beach volleyball matches in the summer. Plage Pereire (2km) is also very family friendly in the summer months with lifeguards, two children’s clubs and games.

Parc Mauresque (2.5km) is a peaceful five hectare park with a children’s playground and splendid views of the town and bay.

The Musée-Aquarium, Rue Professeur Jolyon, next to the tourist information (3km), is ideal for a grey day. This small, traditional museum exhibits local marine life (seahorses, eels) as well as tropical fish.

La Coccinelle Leisure Park at Gujan-Mestras (11km) has animals from all over the world as well as those closer to home. Children can feed lambs, baby goats, calves and piglets. There are also rides and activities suitable for young children.

There are many cycling lanes along the coast. Older kids might enjoy cycling 9km to the giant Dune de Pilat, climbing its 200 steps or scrambling up its sandy sides.

Nature lovers will enjoy Le Teich Nature Reserve (15km) containing 110 hectares of woodland, reed beds, meadow and salt marsh, classified as a Parc Ornithologique.
