Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean with a population of 1 million divided into six districts. Villa Kostas is located in the southwest of the island in the region of Paphos. The city used to be the island’s capital and has a strong heritage of worshipping the goddess Aphrodite. These days the entire area of Paphos is a world UNESCO heritage site thanks to its beauty and historical significance, making it a popular destination for tourists. Check out some of the best places to visit in Paphos below:

Kato Paphos Archaeological Park
A top attraction for history lovers, the Paphos archaeological park is well worth a visit. The most popular sites within the park are probably the beautiful floors that have been preserved of four ancient Roman villas – the houses of Dionysus, Theseus, Aion and Orpheus. The mosaics depict scenes from Greek and Roman mythology such as Theseus battling the minotaur. You can also see the remains of a small Roman theatre and Roman marketplace. It’s only 4.50 euros to enter the park which is really great value – but be sure to bring lots of water and sunscreen as you won’t find much shade here!~

Paphos Old Town
Voted the European Capital of Culture in 2017, the Old Town of Pahpos is a lovely gem. In the Municipal Market you’ll find everything from local produce, to clothes and accessories. There are also lots of bars and cafes where you can enjoy the view over the countryside or out to sea, thanks to the town’s high up location. If you’re into artisan arts and crafts, make sure you stop by The Place – a cultural centre where local artisans sell their traditionally made items such as paintings, woven rugs, jewellery and glassware.

Tomb of the Kings
Dating back to the fourth century BC the Tombs of the Kings is a necropolis built in a series of caves and chambers carved out of sandstone rock. Strangely, the tombs aren’t actually the resting place of any kings, but rather local dignitaries and high-ranking officials. Again, the entry is very reasonable at only 2.50 euros and you’ll also enjoy amazing views out across the Mediterranean.

With three large bedrooms, Villa Kostas is a great choice for a family holiday. Kids will love playing in the pool and, if it’s too hot outside, you’ll be able to keep them entertained with their favourite shows on the smart TV. Being only 100m from the nearest beach, the villa is also in a perfect location for setting out on family beach trips. Plus, being located right in the centre of Paphos, older children and teenagers will revel at the freedom to go out and explore the souvenir shops and markets right on their doorstep.

Some other great kids’ attractions in Paphos include:

Paphos Zoo

Cyprus’s largest Zoo, Paphos Zoo is home to 1,200+ animals from 210 species including mammals, reptiles and birds. You can see rare white lions, flying fox bats, mandrill monkey and some of the most venomous snakes in Europe! There is also a parrot and owl show on three times a day where you can watch them fly and do tricks, as well as learning more about the different species. Children’s tickets to the zoo are 8.50 euros and for adults tickets are 16.50 euros.

Aphrodite Waterpark
This waterpark to the south of Paphos is a great day out for the whole family. There are lots of different slides from gentle to extreme, including the 50ft Free Fall, the Kamikaze, Gravity, the twisty turny Adventure slide, the Super Volcano, the Wet Bubble bouncer and the brand-new Crazy Cone. There’s also a lazy river, wave pool, family rafting and a pirate ship splash pool. Book tickets online to get a 10% discount, as well as family pass savings – kids under 3 go free!

Coral Bay

Fancy a day at the beach? Coral Bay is an excellent choice with shallow waters for the little ones and lots of water sports facilities for the more adventurous, older kids. There are plenty of bars and restaurants along the beach where you can stop for a drink, snack or meal. And if you want to do something special you can go on a catamaran trip, try windsurfing or go on a family diving excursion.
