The outdoor space is exceptional with stunning, panoramic views. The pool is so lovely with many sun loungers, cushioned benches and beautiful, lush plants and trees surrounding it.  The raised grassy areas have additional sun loungers so you can always find the ideal spot in this amazing paradise. The jacuzzi is a delight. Imagine looking out to the turquoise waters with a glass of champagne and bubbles all around – what a perfect start to your holiday! It is so relaxing and peaceful. The huge, brick-built barbecue and outdoor kitchen are wonderful for alfresco meals on the two tables on the undercover dining terrace.  If anything the garden is even more spectacular by night with its mood lighting and the dazzling stars.

Villa Vilhelms would really suit an extended family or a group of friends that would appreciate a little space of their own from time to time, though come together in the glorious garden and terrace.

Downstairs there are two living rooms, two kitchens, one bedroom and two bathrooms. Everything is so spacious and light. On the first floor, there is another kitchen, five bedrooms and four bathrooms. The décor and furniture is a mix of traditional and modern, all very well maintained and comfortable. There is a lovely balcony that wraps around the villa. How lovely to sit on the comfy furniture there for your morning cup of coffee and admire the stunning islands and sea in front of you. There are sun loungers on the balcony too so you might want to sneak off there for a quiet read of that holiday book!

What you should know…

  • It takes a little longer to get to Korcula than other islands, but it is definitely worth it!
  • Although you can cope without a car once you get to the villa, we do still suggest that you hire one to explore the island and attractions on the mainland
  • A quick, regular taxi boat can take you to Badja, another lovely pine-forested island with a 14th century monastery
  • The local Grk wine is so delicious. You must visit one of the family-run wineries

This home is a part of our Great Value Collection!

Lumbarda is a charming village on the stunning Korkula Island. Korcula is 20 miles long and rather narrow. It is known for its dense forest, and the ancient Greeks called it ‘Black Korcula’ for this reason. Evergreen holm oak and prickly maquis are punctuated with majestic cypress spears. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, the island’s hillside-hugging villages are well worth a visit.

At the bottom of the hill from the villa is the local pizzeria. The quaint little town and supermarket are super close, and you can buy fresh fish from the harbour if you get up early enough. How delicious for your barbecue! There is a lovely beach close by with a beach bar, massage and sea trampolines that you can walk to.

The atmospheric, Medieval Korcula Town is known as a mini-Dubrovnik with its rustic charm, palm-lined streets and ancient surrounding walls. It is incredibly picturesque, so make sure you have your cameras ready! The centrepiece is the bell tower of St Mark’s Cathedral standing guard over the narrow Peljesac Channel. The cathedral took three centuries to build and features Gothic, Romanesque and Baroque styles. The narrow alleys and squares are full of brilliant restaurants and unique boutiques.

Heading from Lumbarda to Korcula Town is St Anthony’s Hill. An alley lined with cypress trees leads to a 102-step stairway that scales the hill. At the top, there is a small chapel. The views of the islets and Orebic shore are wonderful.

There are some fantastic beaches, including Lumbarda, Pupnat, Bilin Zal and Bacva beach. Be warned though, the steep, narrow access road to Bacva is not for the faint-hearted. Some tourists decide to arrive by boat.

Region

Korčula (pronounced kor-chu-la) is a beautiful island nestled in the tranquil blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, known for its pristine beaches, rich history, and impressive architecture. Located in the southern region of Croatia, just off the Dalmatian Coast, this enchanting island offers a blend of culture, nature, and a laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle that has continued to entice travellers from
around the world for centuries.

The main town on the island, Korčula Town, is a well-preserved medieval marvel, complete with cobblestone streets laid out in a unique fishbone structure that has to be seen. Just like a mini Dubrovnik, the narrow streets dotted with terracotta-tiled houses are perfect to explore on foot. The town is home to beautiful churches and palaces, including the St. Mark's Cathedral. A stunning example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, the cathedral's façade is adorned with intricate sculptures and a magnificent rose window, showcasing the island's historical and artistic significance.

Korčula has a well-earned reputation for being the wine island, and while there’s local wines to be found across Croatia, Korčula has some outstanding varieties that are hard to find anywhere else. A wine tour is a fantastic way to visit the vineyards, and if you’re feeling particularly active then we recommend trying it on two wheels! A cycling wine tour which is a wonderful way to see the island’s landscape.

If you’re an adventure seeker, Korčula offers numerous outdoor activities. As mentioned, the island's diverse landscape is perfect for cycling, along with well-marked trails that take you through lush forests, rolling hills, and charming villages, which are great for a hike. Water sports enthusiasts can try their hand at kayaking the numerous sheltered bays, a spot of sailing in the crystal-clear
waters of the Adriatic. Additionally, the island's underwater world is a paradise for divers and snorkelers, with vibrant marine life and shipwrecks waiting to be explored.

For some traditional entertainment, Korčula is the best place in Croatia to catch a performance of the Moreška sword dance. A captivating display of choreographed battle scenes, this dance has been a part of the island's cultural heritage for centuries and continues to be performed during the summer months, providing an authentic experience for tourists. A seat in the front row is not for the faint-hearted!

Korčula's strategic position in the Adriatic makes it an ideal starting point for exploring other Croatian islands. A short ferry ride can take you to neighbouring islands such as Hvar, Brac, and Mljet, each with a unique charm. An island-hopping adventure allows you to witness the diversity of the Dalmatian archipelago.

Korčula is easily accessible by ferry from the Croatian mainland, and with its small size and well maintained infrastructure, getting around the island is a breeze.

Korčula is a mesmerising destination that captures the essence of the Mediterranean. Whether you're drawn to the historical, cultural, or natural aspects of the island, a trip to Korčula is sure to leave a lasting impression and unforgettable memories.

Best Suited For: All Ages

Villa Vilhelms is great for a family holiday, especially an extended one as it is so huge and can accommodate so many. The outdoor space is wonderful.

There is much to do on Korcula. It is such a great place to hike or cycle, even though it might be a bit of a challenge in some hilly places! The luscious forests, nature parks and wildlife are fantastic. At Zrnovo you can climb over rocks looking out for the many creepy crawlies! You can cycle from Lumbarda to the furthest point on the east of the island, Raznjicc for fantastic views out to the island of Mljet.

There are some lovely beaches, including the local one, Przi Zal. The inflatable water park is such fun. You can hire kayaks and take a trip over to the nearby islands such as Vrnik. The bays of Przina and Bilin Zal are sandy with shallow water so perfect for sandcastle building. You can even try your hand at volleyball at Przina beach.

The Oreb Club Sailing and Windsurfing School Centre offers lessons for children, and the Dupin Dive Centre offers a ‘try-dive’. There is a large selection of boat tours to visit other islands and to snorkel and swim. If you visit Badja Island children can feed to deers that roam free.

Throughout the summer, the Lumbarda Tourist Board puts on a summer fiesta with events for the whole family including donkey racing and fisherman evenings where you can enjoy the freshly caught grilled seafood and listen to folk concerts.
