Overview
Welcome to Villa Ljubak, your elegant and timeless home for the duration of your stay, located in the enchanting village of Vrbanj on Hvar Island, renowned for its quaint stone homes. This gorgeous villa is tantalisingly traditional but a beautiful marriage of old and new that will ensure you're transported into a peaceful past whilst also having access to the luxury, modernity and convenience that lends ease to your trip.
Villa Ljubak so beautifully blends elements of the old and new that it may just be one of our favourite properties. It's cosy, comfortable and very Mediterranean in style, making it truly authentic. If you picture swimming laps of the pool, huddling together on the sofa and enjoying astonishingly picturesque views whilst dining or indulging in a drink, then you'll adore this property. There are delicious details to enjoy, eclectic pieces that pop and add pizazz, vintage furnishings to add pleasing charm and warmth, earthy exposed wood beams and Dalmatian stone, complimentary colour combinations and textured fabrics that bring the home to life and make it more like a character in your story rather than bricks and mortar. This is a villa to stay in, even though we're certain you'll want to adventure across Hvar too.
Split across three levels; there's plenty to explore. Let's begin with the ground floor. Here you'll find what's referred to as the "konoba", which has historically been used to store barrels of wine. This space has now been transformed into a gloriously rustic living room complete with a wood-burning fireplace. This glorious space is ideal for cosy evening gatherings as a group and is peppered with tiny artistic touches that help animate the space. The room is also blessed with an abundance of natural light during the daylight hours – from here, you'll also be able to access the pool, but more on that later. You'll also find one of the bedrooms, a bathroom and a study area on this floor.
As we move onto the first floor, you'll discover the kitchen space ideal for large groups. Plenty of light floods this space, and its fair, airy colour scheme and decorations make it feel calming and dreamy. You can also close the blinds if you'd like more privacy whilst you cook, eat and socialise. You'll find everything you need to prepare a decadent feast – make sure you add a drizzle of local olive oil to your dishes and settle in with a delectable local wine. This room makes for a wonderful social hub and gives a fresh feel. Thanks to your generous host, you'll also enjoy the indulgence of freshly baked bread and fresh fruits every day. You can enjoy making dinner whilst the space is cleaned and cleared for you daily, meaning you can experience the best parts of the kitchen without having to deal with the downsides. After all, you're on holiday. You can also access a large terrace with a spacious seating area, a lively and vibrant little place where you can indulge in a tipple, chat, enjoy the views or take a breather. You'll also find two double bedrooms and a bathroom on this floor. You'll find the final bedroom in the attic, and each is illuminated with rich colour and imbued with comfort to help ease you into a gentle and rewarding night's sleep. Leading onto the dining area, this is a truly special place to enjoy your evenings.
There's a great deal of outdoor space, potted plants, adorable seating areas, winding staircases, lovely cushions and plush pillows to lie back on, a gorgeous garden, deck chairs, striking stone flooring, a flourishing fountain, barbeque area and a big blue pool just for your indulgence.
There's an abundance to enjoy locally, including tiny tasty eateries, opportunities to taste local wines and the ability to explore the area's rich and alluring history. From here, you can explore the island whilst retreat to a restful piece of the past.

What you should know…
- Many people on Hvar Island will speak English but it’s best to come prepared with a few phrases. The more rurally you explore, the less likely you are to come into contact with English speakers.
- Bring a little cash (again for those more far-flung areas).
- Please do monitor children and vulnerable members of your party particularly on the staircases and by the pool.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa LjubakVilla Ljubak is settled on the beautiful island of Hvar, Croatia. Your stomping grounds will be the quiet and quaint village of Vrbanj, which is renowned for its many stone houses thanks to its Roman origins. You're flanked by many lovely little villages dotted about on hills for glorious vistas and close to the sea for sparkling views. We recommend taking a stroll and exploring the heart and soul of this area and turning back time to a slower and softer way of life. Owing to its central location, Vrbanj makes for a great springboard as you explore the entirety of the island.
Hvar is a hugely popular island, and you'll soon understand why. Despite its popularity, there are still numerous secluded spots for those who want to get away. As an island, you'll naturally want to explore its coastal areas and beaches. There are endless beaches to explore in Hvar, including Dubovica Beach, one of the island's most famous. Lusisca Beach is a crescent of rugged charm just for you. 4km from Hvar Town, you'll find Milna with its glorious waters and buzz. For the most part, the beaches in Hvar have a rugged charm wherever you go – they're rocky and can be found in bays ensconced by striking pine forests. If you're looking for sandy beaches, head to Jelsa or Sucuraj. Hula Beach Bar is a glorious spot to spend sunset not far from Hvar Town – watch the sailboats, locals and the sun in style.
You must explore Hvar Town with its fairy-tale prettiness. There's a real romance to the town's narrow, winding cobblestone streets. You can talk a walk on your own or enjoy a free walking tour if you want to orient yourself. Make sure you explore St. Stephen's Cathedral and St. Stephen's Square – a perfect place for people-watching. For those who like to see the sights from a height, Formica is where you must head. It's a fortress that sits upon the very highest part of the town and grants you views of Hvar and the Pakleni Islands, which are also well worth a visit. What's the big lure? A dreamy sojourn across calm beaches, vast forests, crystalline lagoons and brilliant waters.
Many flock to the area to experience wine tasting; if that's on your radar, Jelsa makes for a wonderful detour – you can also try some tantalising appetisers well-known to the locals. You'll spot the Franciscan Monastery, a dominating feature of the island close to the harbour and bell tower. For something haunting and unusual, you should hunt out the abandoned town of Malo Grablje. The locals abandoned the area to find their fortunes in nearby Milna. Today, you're more likely to see roaming groups of cats and a tantalising taste of the past.
There's a great deal to see by sea, and we'd recommend swimming, snorkelling, water sports and sailing trips. There are beautiful caves to explore also, including Grapceva and the Blue and Green Caves. Close to your villa is Stari Grad. This is where you can see the ferry docking, and it is also known to be the oldest in Croatia and possibly in all of Europe, so it truly is something special. If you're in Hvar during the summer months, explore the deluge of lavender that sprouts up. It's truly something to behold and has garnered Hvar the nickname 'Lavender Island.'

Best Suited For: All AgesHvar is a beautiful spot for families – a secluded and safe island off Croatia's coast. It's ravishingly beautiful, illuminated with history and culture, offers delicious food to suit all palettes and is a wonderful place for quality family time and making new friends due to its popularity. You'll be based on the island of Vrbanj memorable due to its many stone houses. There are endless villages about you peppered about the hills and coast, and taking a trip to them by car or bike or, in some cases, on foot is a great way to immerse yourself in this very special place.
You can't go wrong with children who want to spend time on the beach. Many of the beaches have a rugged charm and are pebbly. They give a feel of wild swimming because they are surrounded by unspoilt nature. You may wish to explore Dubovica Beach, one of the most visited, but we'd also recommend Lusisca and Milna. If you would like sandy beaches in shallow bays, Jelsa and Sucuraj should be on your list.
Hvar is very family friendly – even the evenings are built for families. Take the kids for an alcohol-free beverage at Hula Beach Bar and watch the sun go down. If you want to introduce young ones to the area's history, Hvar Town marks the spot. You can easily see St. Stephen's Cathedral and Square in an hour and enjoy a tasty bite nearby. Take a drive to Formica for views across Hvar and the neighbouring Paklini Islands. You'll want to avoid the dead heat of the day should you choose to walk or cycle. That string of islands you can spot – Paklini – is ideal for secluded sleepy magic. Explore the lagoons and pure waters for as long as you like. For a deeper taste of culture, the Franciscan Monastery also makes for an enjoyable stop. Children and adults will enjoy the abandoned town of Malo Grablje. When the locals up and left for Milna, they left behind a slice of the old life (and many cats!)
Close to home is Stari Grad – a great spot to take in old-world charm. Children will fall for the flourishing lavender fields that crop up over the summer donning the island in purple. The real charm for children is at sea – go swimming, snorkelling, explore islands and caves and spend time at the beach together.
