The village of Sveta Nedelja is located just below a cave that was inhabited by Neolithic tribes in the ancient past and later became the home to an Augustinian monastery in the 15th century. This is a village with history as well as beauty. It is a wine lover’s paradise with delicious wine tastings and tours, the best wines on the island. You should order prosciutto, cheese and other local delicacies when tasting the wines. Only remains of the ancient monastery can be found just below the peak of St Nicholas. The chapel still stands and it is worth the 40 minute climb up to see it and enjoy the views. The area has become a free climbing destination with its sheer, rocky cliffs and stunning vistas. There is a small lavender and rosemary oil distillery that creates the most divine scented oils that you can also visit. The new part of Sveta Nedelja is right next to a delightful sandy beach called Zogon Beach. It is a popular spot for sun bathers and swimmers. You can enjoy freshly caught fish at the restaurants next to the beach. Nearby, is the lovely Lucisce Beach, another sandy gem. Visitors to Sveta Nedelja can enjoy hiking, trekking, mountaineering, rock climbing, mountain biking, cycling, surfing and wind surfing. It is great for those that love the outdoors.

Jelsa is another popular spot, the main tourist center on the north shore of Hvar. It boasts a fragrant dense pine forest, wonderful sandy beaches, numerous vineyards, historic cultural landmarks, adventure parks and good range of shops and gourmet restaurants. Vitarnja Beach is a delightful, beautiful cove near Jelsa. It is a great place for families with thrilling treats.

North of the villa is Stari Grad, founded in 384BC by the ancient Greeks who named it Pharos. Throughout the town you will find remains of its glorious past. Stari Grad is very beautiful with a maze of picturesque narrow streets, the magical sounds of folk singers, galleries, charming courtyards, excellent shops and traditional taverns. The town sits proudly at the end of a deep inlet. The waterfront promenade continues along the northern bank to a small beach. The surrounding fields are still divided into parcels of land. The Stari Grad Plain is wonderful for hiking, cycling, enjoying the lavender fields and visiting ancient little villages.

On the south coast, Zavala boasts a few restaurants and shops and it is surrounded by beautiful nature. Its rustic Dalmation stone houses fill the narrow cobbled streets plus you have a wonderful view of the islands of Scedro and Korcula as well as the Peljesac Peninsula. The slopes of the village are adorned with neat rows of vineyards and scented, blooming oleander flowers. The village is famous for its delicious white wine, bogdanjusa, which you can drink in one of the restaurants along with some superb local dishes. Below the village are a string of beautiful beaches including Petrascica with its fascinating cave and a small harbour. Zavala is a wonderful spot for those wanting to escape the crowds and relax surrounded by the hypnotic scents of rosemary and lavender, beautiful olive trees and wonderful vineyards.

Another popular excursion is to take a water taxi from Hvar Town to the sensational Pakleni Islands. Visitors flock to Hvar Town in the summer, visiting the beaches by day and partying into the night. The harbour is incredibly picturesque. The town enjoys many historic buildings including its wonderful medieval castle above the town, its 15th century monastery and its baroque cathedral. There are some lovely unique shops where you can buy souvenirs. At night, it is definitely the the celebrity hotspot it has become famous for.

Region

The island of Hvar stands out as one of Croatia's most enchanting destinations - a picturesque paradise that seamlessly combines natural beauty, historical charm and a lively cultural scene. The sun-drenched island’s stunning landscapes provide a picture-perfect backdrop to a whole wealth of
unforgettable experiences.

At the heart of the island is the port town of Hvar, a historic gem known for its well-preserved architecture and timeless allure. Take a wander through the traffic-free labyrinth of narrow streets, where you can soak up the charm of the island. The central square of Hvar Town is a bustling hub surrounded by centuries-old buildings and lively cafes - it’s a popular spot to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine from one of the many cafes and restaurants. The square is also home to the imposing St. Stephen's Cathedral, a beautiful example of Dalmatian Renaissance architecture.

Overlooking the town is the Hvar Fortress, a medieval citadel with a history dating back to the 13th century. The fortress is worthy of a visit for the epic panoramic views that stretch across the town and the Adriatic Sea. The ascent is especially rewarding it at sunset, when you can watch the town's
lights sparkle below.

Heading inland just a few kilometres from Hvar Town, the village of Velo Grablje is famous for its lavender fields. Visit during the summer and you'll be treated to the sight and scent of the vast fields in full bloom. The island is also celebrated for its vineyards and olive groves, producing some of Croatia's best wines and olive oils. Many wineries and oil mills offer tastings and tours, allowing
you to sample these local delights while learning about traditional production methods.

Just a short boat ride from the harbour of Hvar are the Pakleni Islands, a group of islets renowned for their pristine beaches, hidden coves, and emerald sea. The idyllic surroundings offer a tranquil escape from the bustle of the main island, making it a favoured day trip destination. Explore hidden
bays, discover secluded beaches, and enjoy water sports in this unspoiled paradise. The uninhabited resort of Palmižana on the island of Sveti Clement is a particular highlight - a hidden oasis known for its lush botanical gardens and crystal-clear water.

For outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, Hvar's natural beauty provides a picturesque playground. Hvar offers numerous cycling trails for both beginners and experienced riders. The island's diverse terrain is ideal for exploring the charming villages, olive groves, and vineyards on two wheels. Or for a unique perspective of the islands scenic beauty, you can experience the Adriatic up close and paddle along the dramatic coastline in a kayak, discovering coves and sea caves.

Hvar, is a Mediterranean paradise that promises an array of unforgettable experiences. Whether you're wandering through the historic streets of Hvar Town, discovering hidden coves on the Pakleni Islands, or savouring local wines and delicacies, the island offers a blend of cultural exploration, natural beauty, and relaxation that's hard to match.
