Location
About the surrounding area of Burnham East LodgeThis tranquil, one bedroom lodge, is located within the beautiful Holkham Estate, with access to acres of land, and positioned perfectly for enjoying all the best things North Norfolk has to offer!
Poised in the grounds of the impressive Holkham Estate, you only have to step outside your front door to appreciate the impressive parkland and woodlands that surround you. A beautiful walk through the Estate will bring you to the majestic Holkham Hall, whilst pet friendly woodland trails lead you into the charming Holkham village, The Burnhams and onto Wells-next-the-Sea.
The Holkham Estate is vast, offering 25000 acres of parkland and private gardens. Rich in history, architecture and wildlife, the charms of Holkham Hall are hard to resist! The seat of the Earl of Leicester, this elegant 18th century mansion is still a much loved, lived-in family home which visitors can also enjoy. There are 6 acres of walled garden, originally laid out by Samuel Wyatt in the late 1700’s. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the walking and cycling paths, the lakes, watching the deer, the tree top high ropes course with its swings, bridges and ziplines, rowing boats, canoes and kayaks on the lake and the woodland play area. It is an outstanding family excursion.
Of course, North Norfolk is renowned for its beautiful beaches and the beach at Holkham does not disappoint. It is one of the most unspoilt and beautiful stretches of sand in the country. With a glorious semi-circle basin filling to form a spectacular shallow lagoon at high tides, this beach is famous for the closing scene in Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘Shakespeare in Love’ and is also very popular with birdwatchers, so pack your binoculars if you would like to find some!
For an afternoon of pottering around the shops, Burnham Market and Holt are perfect. Overflowing with unique independent shops, welcoming gastropubs such as the Hoste, cute delis, cafes, and galleries, all around a delightful village green, Burnham Market is incredibly popular. Look out for the August arts and crafts fair with puppet shows and alfresco dining! Holt is another Norfolk gem, again with wonderful art galleries, eateries, and charm.

Region
Found in the East of England, Norfolk’s charms are as broad as the famous network of rivers that run through it. With an abundance of natural beauty and wildlife, this is one county where you can really kick back and enjoy some quintessential English countryside.
But it’s not just a rural idyll – there’s loads of stuff to see and do, which we’ve all put together in our handy Norfolk travel guide. And don’t forget, if you need a place to stay our luxury cottages in Norfolk offer everything you need for an amazing family holiday.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesWith only one bedroom, Burnham East Lodge is not designed for families with kids. However, the local area is brilliant for children, so if you are travelling as part of a large group staying elsewhere, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained!
Hunstanton is great for an afternoon out as a family with amusements, a beach, funfair, and Sea Life Hunstanton. If you walk along to Old Hunstanton you will see kite surfers in the water and colourful beach huts above the beach.
One of our favourite family trips is to take a seal watching trip from Morston out to Blakeney Point. Passengers are taken to the basking ground of Blakeney’s resident seal colony which can be over 500 strong. Make sure you pack a camera or bring your phone along for this one!
Of course, the North Norfolk beaches are always a winning choice for a day with kids. The shallow seas, long sandy beaches and vibrant sand dunes are irresistible for fun days out. Kids can busy themselves building sandcastles and body boarding whilst you relax in the sun.

Excellent
Beautiful accommodation and location. It was so clean and fresh, it was like we were the first guests. Electric bike Hire was a great way of exploring the Estate. All the staff were very friendly and the walled Garden is stunning.

We plan to return!
This gatehouse on this well known large estate has been well modernised into comfortable holiday accommodation of sitting room, kitchen and bedroom with attached shower room. The location is quiet and ideally situated for exploring the many charming places that north Norfolk has to offer.

Wonderful
Lodge was extremely clean, warm and welcoming. The goodies were very thoughtful, thank you. Even our dog had a treat. Lovely local walks on the estate, great beaches near by. Plenty of places to eat covering all tastes and pockets. If you want complete isolation South Lodge may not be for you as there are a few tractors and delivery vans passing through the gate during the day. Although for us this was in no way a problem. Great easy parking and access to the lodge from major roads. Lovely little enclosed garden with furniture.

Will recommend!
We enjoyed our stay on the estate. The lodge was very well appointed and greatly appreciated the car charging point on site. In an area with few fast chargers that was brilliant foresight on the part of the owners. We will return and have already recommended it to a friend.

Perfect
This house is wonderfully renovated, in great style. There was a fabulous welcome pack of various delicious foods and even the dog was catered for. We did not actually go anywhere off the Estate this time as we really made use of the free parking and the 10% off card. The Estate is a delight - so smoothly run with so much history. We also had tickets for the Candlelit Tour which was astonishing.
